SvenMarbles Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 Just curious . it’s become a bit of a separate hobby of it’s own with the aftermarket firmwares. Pretty cool. Quote
UncleYoda Posted April 20 Report Posted April 20 I have a Baofeng K5+; don't know what the difference is. I know nothing about firmware updates for it, if any. But I would not trust firmware from any source other than the manufacturer. WSCG586 1 Quote

The Quansheng UVK5 series radios have user flashable firmware capability from the USB-C port so a whole little community of developers on github are developing new firmwares that really improve and open the radio up. There are some videos on Youtube about it. They're $30 radios like the Baofengs are, so it's just become a fun little side bar hobby to get one and play around with these different things people are doing to them.. FlatTop Posted April 21 Report Posted April 21 I wanted to try one but got over it. I ordered one from Amazon...2 days later its on my porch...opened it up and it's DOA. FIled an exchange with Amazon...new replacement arrives...dead in the box. I gave up and just got a refund. I know I know...they aren't all like that. I'm over it. Quote
WSBZ540 Posted April 22 Report Posted April 22 I've got several of them. Absolutely love it. probably one of my favorite radios. Transmit is pretty clean in the 2m 70cm bands. Side band, fm, am, 18-600mhz, digital modes, mesh network, its pretty fun... Quote
AdmiralCochrane Posted April 23 Report Posted April 23 2 of them. Also got a little package from a fellow ham on the island of Malta Quote
