..I highly recommend that you never do that except for absolute life or death emergencies. You will be wrong cross band from GMRS to 2m even if you have both licenses. FCC regulations do not allow cross band between different services.

Oh my, that sounds serious!  So, what would happen if someone did this?

I'm new to this so please bear with me. I don't understand exactly what that means.

Cross-Band repeating is where your radio hears something on one band, and simultaneously re-transmits on another band..So for example, someone could be transmitting on GMRS channel 16, your radio would pick that up and re-transmit on a H.A.M.s radios frequency.

Nothing would happen unless a person was an idiot about it and caused problems. I mentioned that is against FCC regulations just so people know and don't take a chance getting in trouble. It's no different that how you mentioned it in your video about the new KG-935H.

No different than the other day. I was talking to someone while I was on our 2m repeater and it took a minute to realize he was on our GMRS repeater. I quickly let him know what was going on and we laughed about it. A few of us have done the same thing with our 2m and 70cm repeaters. One will be on the 2m repeater while the other is on the 70cm repeater. Again we correct each other and laugh about it.

The guilt will slowly eat at your soul until you find yourself standing in the desert in bunny slippers howling at the moon and calling “CQ 10-4” repeatedly on some bubble pack FRS radios with the batteries in backwards? Or something like that. I wouldn’t risk it.

Probably nothing, but I agree that it's best to know the rules. IMO, you're less likely to find yourself in trouble if you violate the rules knowingly than if you do it by accident. If you know it's against the rules, you're more likely to be circumspect about it.

If you were to do it over would you rather have 2 Q10H's or a Q10H and 935H? Or just as you have it?

I would rather have one of each than two Q10h’s.

Long answer- If it were a one or the other it would be the Q10H because it is quad band, IP67, super het. It’s probably going to be able to take a good beating.

I really like my 935G plus. I’m pretty sure the battery life on my 935 last longer and I like how it fits in my hand. It is my favorite GMRS radio and recently I was wishing it did Ham. Even though I have the Q10H and other Ham HT’s. So two weeks ago I was looking at the KG-UV8H. I decided I really can’t justify it, I have other radios that will do everything it does despite my want.

Did mention I have been stricken with the I want another radio affliction? The minute I saw the KG-935H and saw it was tri band I thanked myself for not giving in to my whim of getting the UV8H. Yeah I ordered a KG-935H three days ago. Well I’m off to my radio anonymous meeting, Anyone need a ride?

I am doing my best to resist getting the new KG-935H. What is helping me resist is keeping my KG-Q10H right in front of me as a reminder that I don't need the 935H. Wish me luck 🤣

Just keep thinking about creative ways to justify spending the money. You'll give in sooner or later.

Me, I won't give up until I run out of plastic storage boxes to put them in. Then I'll wait for the Dollar store to get more in then buy another 20 to 30. That'll hold me for a while. 🫤

Thanks. May get the 935G Plus then.

Definitely need a ride to radio anonymous meeting. I have 4 cheap radios and the Q10H and am looking for more. What's bad is i have no friends to share them with and no repeaters around me. I so I need some serious help...

Good luck...currently waiting for my 935h to ship 🫣 I was debating between that and the Q10H for want of more 220 gear, but the price difference and the fact that I already have a 6m (vx7r) handheld left me giving the 935 the nod.

Truth be told, I have another 220 handheld (uv7d), but it's vhf (1.25 and 2m) only...current plan is to throw that in the truck with an amp.

We can start an on line group. 🫣

Hi, my name is Mr. Kenwood, and I can't resist buying more HT's.

I fight the urge with the Vertex stuff...there was one I had my eye on, but apparently software and cables for that are NLA, along with a p25 mobile that only seems to be available in 450-512, not 400-470...

(Edit: it was the vxd-720, which looks to be a near twin to the moto xpr6xxx series)

i did give in on a Midland P25 handheld, though. something new to futz with. Have it in hand and it's a nice solid little device. Haven't had a chance to dive into programming yet.

Edited by wayoverthere
added vxd model# and Midland in hand

Just to clarify, 935G = GMRS with dual band receive and IP66. The 935H = Ham tri band (which like the Q10H can be unlocked if desired) and IP66. Q10H = quad band with AM airband receive and IP67. Good luck.

Does your 935H output 8 watts on GMRS?

Posted

It looks like it will transmit at around 8 watts on the 2m and 70cm bands only. It puts out an average of 5 watts on the 1.25m (220MHz) band, and around 5-6 watts on GMRS. This is quite normal for any dual, tri, or quad band radio.

@OffRoaderX got the following results with the KG-935H he tested in his video

2m - 8.45 watts

1.25m - 4.87 watts

70cm - 8.224 watts

GMRS - 5,73 watts

Go to the 17:43 time mark for the output results.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O1LphnxN15o

I don't have a KG-935H to test but I did test my KG-Q10H.Here are the output watts on the different bands on my KG-Q10H

2m - 4.43 watts

70cm -  5.9 watts

1.25m - 2 watts

6m - 1.5 watts

GMRS - 3.5 watts

MURS - 1.5 watts

The KG-Q10H and KG-935H will both use the same unlock code.

Don't bother trying the unlocked code with the KG-935or KG-Q10G models since it will NOT work.

I'm also considering a 935H, but I guess I'm waiting for more reviews on it first. I see there's also a Optional 3200mah battery for it too !
