LeoG
I put up the wristwatch walkie talkie thread and it seemed to spark some interest in radios you've had. So list'm here. Radio Nostalgia of days past when you were just a youngster or just starting out at whatever age to remember your radios of the past whether they be plain jane simple HTs to CB and ham radios of the past. Myself I had a GE pair of walkie talkies. Pull up antenna, on/off volume and PTT were what you had. When I got a bit older I ended up with a few CB radios and I think the last was a 40 CH SSB Midland. And I think this was the one I had but I'm not positive. Rulander
I've got around 4 or 5 vintage handheld Realistic radios. 1 or 2 are CB radios, and the others use CB crystals for channels but are limited to 3 channels, so they were considered walkies. I'll have to dig them out and take photos to post.
nokones
Here is my brand new still in the box Tandy Corp Radio Shack TRC-24 22 Ch. CB radio. This is the model back in the day where as if you clip the black wire on the channel selector you activate the channel that is in the blank space between channels 22 & 23 known as Ch. 22A or the "Alpha" channel. It was kinda of a private channel that not a lot of CBs had in those days before the 40 channel CBs were introduced. Today that Alpha channel frequency is Ch. 24. They transmitted on channel 14. Did some research and they were called RECON1 walkie talkies from about 1974/1975 - in the height of the CB craze. WSDD439
Our “set up”, back in the ‘80’s ! Midland 23ch with SSB and a “VFO”, to get to channel 40, and higher ( that’s where you’d find me ! ), a 750watt linear, and a D-104 desk mic. This was hooked to a Super Penetrator ( standby ), and a four element quad beam for skip ! FUN TIMES !! JBRPong
WRQI663
I've had this one for a long time, and it still works -- only 4 memory channels and 2 meters only It still works but has no PL so I use in on simplex most of the time. LeoG
Yup, 7 segment led displays were fun to play with. My 1st calculator was LED. I made a LED clock using a kit. Had round LEDs to separate the Hours, Minutes and Seconds. I think I still have it up in my attic, but unfortunately I don't believe it works anymore. Rulander
My old stuff from the 80's. The emergency CB kit has never been used. The others are in mint condition and they all work perfect. WSDD439

CentralFloridaGMRS
Our Radio Shack.(First photo) Dad would go into the local Liquor Store after giving me $10 to spend on whatever I wanted. Our First radio was purchased by a local CB Store.(Photo 2) A Royce. My Favorite Radio. We purchased this tower (see photo 3) for our Roof before putting up the Radio Shack Base Antenna. The Antenna is missing in this photo. It lasted one season before crashing during an Ice Storm. JBRPong and WSDD439
tcp2525
Nice!!! I wish I had pictures of my Pearce Simpson Bengal with the Siltronix 90 VFO connected to a PDL2 from back in the 70s. Talk about a fun setup. I had so much fun and made so many contacts around the world which yielded boxes and boxes of QSL cards. As a ham now, I have absolutely no interest in swapping QSL cards. WRPQ991
We lived on a farm in western Nebraska, used the CH 14 walkie talkies alot for communication, as I grew up we would touch the antenna to the lightning rod on the barn, gave us a BIG antenna. we could talk for many miles. But nobody could get back to us except a few local truck drivers. JBRPong and CentralFloridaGMRS
