This.

As defined in 95.303

Maybe the dead horse flogging will now cease?

Now wait a darn minute! My inquiry was genuine. I could not see it until I could read the definition of station.

How the hell was it flogging a dead horse when I honestly was trying to understand?

This mule ain't even tired yet, but I believe the issue is resolved.

Statements like this and the dead horse flogging lead me to believe that this is no longer the forum for me.

I ask you both, dear arbiters of all things equine... Am I and my honest and genuine questions not welcome here anymore? If not, then I will go about requesting the deletion of my account.

I'll tell you want i think. In the end, no one gives a damn what the rules say, they do what they want or think they can get away with. Even the people who don't publicly admit it due to work, or position in the community, etc., fall into this category. I think the entire conversation is theater, boredom or both.

Carry on.

Really?

I was trying to understand the regulation. It helps me remember and abide by them better by understanding them myself. It was not theater to me. If you believe that way, why waste your time posting in the thread or even reading it?

Mostly for the sake of conversation and boredom.  I thought I was pretty clear on that.  There are a ton of things we discuss here that haven't come to consensus in a decade... I doubt it will change; especially with the overwhelming lack of enforcement and lack of 'official' guidance or clarification from the FCC (with the exception of recent Linking debates).

If these forums are going to become just another collection of a*holes on the internet, then I really won't want to have any further part in it.

The entire internet is a giant black hole.  Has been since about 1994.  I do enjoy the technical stuff, learning and helping others.  So there is that.

Things sure did get over complicated and for no real good reason.

It's simple to understand. Don't broadcast, don't transmit on a band/service you are not licensed for, and don't cross band repeat from one service to another service.

If that was the case, we wouldn't be on page 4 of the 30th time this was discussed... I think, anyway.  I mean, I am open to other opinions, but it would help if the rules weren't written by lawyers and kept up with modern technology.

I guess that I am more use to dealing with military and government regulations than some. And I won't argue that it would be nice if regulations were written so that the average lay person could understand. But that is not how the government works.

This subject ranks right up there with topics like linking and the use of Roger Beeps.

Wow this went sideways fast, I had a coffee and some cookies (cranberry shortbread from TJ’s, thanks for asking) came back and a whole other page has been added. I thought this was basically a light hearted discussion on a rules interpretation of which there were never any real stakes or serious concerns. It didn’t seem worth taking that seriously. I thought it was resolved. Now people are threatening to leave, the internet is a black hole, and my cookies are gone man. Gone.

carry on. 😀

It wasn't that it was serious. I was genuinely asking in good faith. Jackasses are a drag.

Nobody is threatening to leave. I deleted my repeater from the database and have sent a message to Rich asking him to delete my account because I cannot find the delete account button referred to in the FAQs.

I don't understand why you're taking it so seriously.  Some shares an opinion you don't like, so you melt down and hide instead of saying "thanks, but I disagree". That is something I expect from my 6 yo granddaughter. Not an adult.

Why is Animal Farm popping into my head? 🤔

Since obviously Rich has not had enough time to notice, read, and act upon my deletion request (I realize it make take days/weeks), I might as well respond...

I've been a member here since something like 2016. I haven't been able to be as involved community-wise for a long while but have gotten back into the community side of it over the past couple of months.

I was checking out the forums again and in less than 8~12 hours (?) I have been replied to in unnecessarily nasty and ridiculing ways. I also happened to stumble upon a nasty and untrue old posting about our local group by the head of a pay-to-play group that I handed our list and basically the freely associating group over to. This was done as an official statement from the radio group. The guy apparently is an absolute snake-in-the-grass.

Bottom line is, if this is seriously what this particular set of forums has degenerated into then it's not something I want to use or even have my name associated with. Y'all can have at it. I want no part of it. It really is that simple.

Believe me, my favorite Tuber-of-the-You, if I could find that damned delete button, I would be so gone from this place.

This place used to be different. I don't much care for how it has turned out.

No Sad Pork-product here. Life is too short.

I really don't want to see you leave. I think you're a nice guy and you contribute a lot here. I think you're just taking my comments and the comments of others entirely too serious. Steve and I disagreed on something. We had a conversation about it. Nobody got offended because the other guy had a different opinion. That's just normally how adults do it.

Aw, buddy, it wasn't just this thread. It was just the whole vibe of the place since I came back and tried to get caught up on some of the topics from years ago and recently. I didn't express myself as clearly as I should've. It's probably 80% me and 20% what I have experienced here today. Regardless, it is time for me to move on.

I appreciate the kind gesture and to those I knew from back when (including @marcspaz, I appreciate and cherish the interactions we had. I learned a lot and met many wonderful people.

And THIS is part of the problem. I never got mad I didn't take it as people were disagreeing. I was genuinely trying to understand and internalize the particular regulation. There was no argument to agree or disagree about.

I was sincerely asking questions in a logical polite manner and what I got back from this forum was, "You talk like a *** and your **** is all ********." (Idiocracy reference.)

No idea what any of this is referring to. Could this be the real issue?

Back to this thread though. From where I sit you stated your thoughts and opinions and why. The back and forth seemed cordial and not emotional with things ending in an understanding. @SteveShannon actually comes full circle on his first post in the thread with a second mention on the definition of a station.  Yes there were some side line comments from the gallery not worth taking seriously or personal.
While I didn’t subscribe to your point of view, you made a good case without being an ass. That approach deserves a honest discussion and should be welcomed. You do seem like a good guy. If the forum isn’t working for you I respect that but I hope you’ll consider staying.
