Wouxun KG-935G + Channel Wizard Question

Hello All,

Very new both here and with GMRS - and I seem to be having an issue with the Channel Wizard when adding a repeater.

Repeater is: 462.725 MHz with a 67.0Hz Input tone.

So I go thru the channel wizard and input this info and save. Everything looks good until I power cycle the radio.

If I go back into the Chanel Wizard, it now shows the Rx-Freq = 462.55000 however If I exit out of this and use "mode" to get the selected repeater to show its frequency, it is showing the correct 462.725 MHz. Why does the channel wizard not reflect this after a power cycle? The input tone and everything else still looks good.

Not all of the California folks though. @WRUU653 would help anyone who needs help. 
@Socalgmrs just doesn’t play well with others. It’s too bad too. I think his experience could have value. But because of the way he talks to people whatever value he might bring is rejected.

I have a couple of Wouxun KG-935 + and haven't used the Channel Wizard yet, so I gave this is try!

Verified your problem using:

1) Using the Channel Wizard I created the a new repeater for previously unpopulated entry Ch No. 32 using the 462.725, TX CTC 67 and the Channel Name "HMRS-22"

2) I uploaded the radio config to my PC using the Wouxum software and confirmed the new entry for Ch No. 32 was there with the correct values.

3) I power cycled the radio and re-uploaded to my PC radio's config verifying Ch No. 32 still was 462.725, TX CTC 67 and Channel Name "HMRS-22".

4) Lastly, I selected CH No. 32 and invoked the Channel Wizard and verified it displayed Channel Name "HMRS-22", but with a Frequency 462.5500.

One clue to the problem is the frequency of 462.5500 (channel 15) which is the first of the repeater transmit channels.

The other clue is the Wizard uses whatever current Channel Name is displayed when the Wizard is entered as its default. This makes it appear it might using the other values for the channel as defaults, as well.

This tells me the tool is just for creating new channels, but not modifying them, but with the possible exception of using an existing channel NAME as a default.

The Channel Wizard is a cool feature I can see myself using when I don't have access to my PC!

That’s kind of you to say.  I try and help when I can and if I can. There are some good people here and smarter than me.
What makes someone good or helpful isn’t predicated on their geography. You’ll find them all over the map. You don’t have to look very hard to see that.

I have had this radio for some time and to be honest I was in the same boat as @WRNU354 and I just hadn’t bothered with the Channel Wizard feature before. So I also gave it a go and I can confirm once you save the channel that’s is as far as the Channel Wizard is concerned, channel wizard is no longer looking at the channel you saved. Your radio is working properly. Now that I have used this I agree with @WRNU354 that this is a great way to add a channel while on the road. Perfect looking up a repeater on the map and adding it without having to bust out the laptop.

I am not in range of the repeater from my home, only office. I would assume so, as switching to frequency mode shows the correct frequency. Sounds like the Channel Wizard is to get the channel built and then that's it - which is fine I just wanted to make sure its behaving as it should. I do have another KG-935G+ on the way with a programming cable - however it has been quite simple from the radio as well.

Shocker - anyway I appreciate the info. I believe all is working as intended - plan to verify on the other radio once it arrives - and then to find a Mobile Setup "thinking a: Wouxun KG-1000G Plus".

The advantage of the Channel Wizard, its function really is it puts all the settings for creating a new channel in one location. This is much simpler than moving all around the menu to put things in one at a time. Having now tried it I have to say it’s a pretty nice feature.

Agreed - after messing around with it, I like it. I do want to use my PC to add all the local frequencies and set up some scan groups. Would you use the Wouxun software or Chirp? And what cable? I see these two options:

Does the Wouxun software allow importing from CSV files from myGMRS?

After messing around with the Channel Wizard everything you said makes perfect sense and I had the same results.

I’ve switched over to RT Systems for almost all of my radios. I enjoy the consistency but I did use Chirp before. One of the menus in Chirp allows you to import from RepeaterBook (good for ham radio listings but not as complete as MyGMRS’s database for GMRS.) I think it also allows importing CSV (comma separated variable) files. 
But I don’t know about Wouxun software. Not meant negatively; I just haven’t used it.

I use Chirp and the red Wouxun cable from By Two Way Radios which is the first one you referance. I use a Mac so I tend to use Chirp because they are Mac compatible. Some of the radios are Mac supported by RT and they have a good reputation.
