I just joined this "MyGMRS.com" a half hour ago. There are hundreds of thousands of both FRS, and GMRS radios, and licenses nationwide. There are only 30 members active here. I am looking at the dates of posts, and responses. Very OLD. I was under the impression, I was joining something that was growing, as more, and more people find this great communication system for friends, family, hunting, camping, and even emergency use where there is no cell coverage. I guess, I was wrong. Please let me know if im lost, or if this is what is actually here. I'm not impressed, especially since my computer had an attack from an advertiser. Where is this websites security protection. It just cost me $50.00 to unlock my computer from windows, because of this site.

Sir, this is a Wendy's.

OK, stupid jokes aside...

I, too, am a noob and freshly-minted licensee, and I have explored this site over the past couple of weeks to find out if I want to spend time here. You posted this a half hour after joining. Have you noticed the wealth of information accumulated on this site over more than a decade? If topic views are any indication, there is a ton of lurkers on here who search their questions, find their answers, and go on their merry way without posting. There are regulars on here who continue to share their knowledge and make this place a small but helpful community. Be the change you want to see in the world and participate if you're looking for more laid-back interaction, or hit up Reddit if you want high volume (and topic repetition).

As for the ads, yeah they're annoying, but do you have an ad blocker and/or security software installed? That might help! I'm sorry you had to go through that.

Welcome aboard, in all sincerity. I, too, hope to see this forum gain popularity.

Gmrs is growing. That is a fact attested to by how many new licenses are sold on the fcc web site.    This is from my experience the most active gmrs site.   This is pretty much it. Love it or leave it.

the vast huge most almost all gmrs users only use it to communicate with family and friends while doing stuff.  Much of what I see is off roading, atv, hunting and horse back riding.   Many of those people don’t need better longer latest or greatest radios.  They don’t need repeaters.  They just want to talk 5-10 miles reliably.   Most people I know do not have time or need for a site like this.

Well.....

Sorry You're Not Impressed - This Site Is Outstanding

You Are Unfortunately Wrong - There Are Many Daily Posts Containing Great Info & Discussions

And It's Too Bad You Don't Have An Adequate Security Subscription In Place To Guard Against Possibly Some Of Your Previously Scrupulous Websites You Have Visited. Don't Throw Blame That You Cannot Confirm.

Rich & His Staff Has Done One Hell Of A Job On This Site & It's Offensive That You Post This Type Of BS

Be That As It May:

Maybe GMRS Radio / Forums - Are Not For You At All.....

Not sure exactly what you were expecting. But compared to some forums this one is pretty active.

Perhaps the greatest benefit is using the search function. I think I have always found the information about GMRS I was looking for once I understood how to use the search function. And using the repeater list or location map is an outstanding feature. It took me about a month of casual use to figure out all the features. So I would give it more time.

So there a lot of GMRS licensees here. Did you find thirty users in your area alone? Or the whole website? Also keep in mind there are a ton of GMRS users who want nothing to do with being part of a website for many reasons. Locating those folks and establishing a conversation with them is a challenge. But worth it.

Sorry you got attacked by an advertiser. While most site owners do their reasonable due diligence on vetting and permitting good advertisers things just sometimes happen. In those cases, not sure what Anti-Virus service you use. But it's 2025 and even the most basic anti-virus services are great at sniffing out bad-advertisers / malware. So a lot of this is on the computer owner making sure they are using a quality Anti-Virus service.

Hopefully you will give it more time to explore the site and it's features.

Gregory:

You've only had your license for 12 days and already you're a radio einstein.

Where is your computer system protection? You probably either don't have any protection or you're using one of those cheap protection systems that came from a far-away land that don't speak english.

It appears that the Radio Reference Forum would be more suited for you. You'll more than likely will fit in a lot better with all the Old Duffers" and "Sad Hams" that think they know everything and don't have a clue on knowing the difference between a burnt biscuit and their dark spot orfice. You have a lot in common with them. There is no doubt that there are more than 30 of those radio einsteins that fit the bill.  It's a real peach of a group for you. So, go enjoy.

On any given day there may be many posts.  I’ve seen as many as ten pages of online users (including a bunch of guests) at any one time. Easter weekend might not be typical. If you are only seeing older posts you are doing something wrong.  If you spent $50 to “unlock your computer from windows” you are doing something wrong. This site pays for itself by including advertising, but you can purchase levels of membership that completely block all advertising.

It’s not unheard of for people to do something wrong, but it’s fairly stupid to blame everyone but yourself. There are some very smart people on this site who would be willing to help you but you kind of burned that bridge before you crossed it.

Yes, you appear to be lost.

The saying "never bite the hand that feeds you" definitely fits here.

A lot of people over there like to give long and convoluted replies trying to show their superior intellect while proving just the opposite. I made a reply on radio reference one time and kept things as simple as possible so anyone could understand the answer and quite a few jumped on me for it.

I've only ever seen one other site that's close at all, and a very distant second at that. So distant that I can't even recall it's name or the URL.  I'm here mostly as I'm into all facets of the radio world, but I do generally only use GMRS radios when out doing things, barely, if ever use a repeater. But interesting to see what else is going on out there and this is the best place to find that for GMRS.
