Both my mobiles and portables have only a couple or three scan lists. I usually don't scan with my portables, I mostly scan with my mobiles especially when I travel and it is essentially one scan list consisting of the 15 GMRS 462 MHz Main and Interstitial channels in my UHF radio, and some Business Radio freqs in my VHF radio that are used on the some of the trails in Arizona.

Then Folks Should Refrain On Commenting "Not Quite" If They Are Siting An "Example / Opinion" Of Documented FCC Definitions.....
- Today
-
No, it’s an example.
-
Actually, it is based on observation of processing many thousands of requests to the Commission for processing. l

So - Stating "The Primary Purpose Is To Pass Data" Is an Opinion For The Use Of Fixed Stations, Not Reflected In Definitions In Part 95.303. WRKC935, In My Opinion Has The Correct - Explanation / Examples Of Base Stations vs Fixed Stations......
-
Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only. This statement would seem to indicate that a repeater is not a fixed station as it does not communicate with only fixed stations. Therefore talking to it is not the action of a fixed station. I will agree that this topic has been discussed for what seems an eternity. With some grasping the rules and others arguing the perceived vagueness. I would agree that for a radio service intended for friends and family the FCC could or should have written the rules for such. That said, all the debate is for what end I have no idea. Who is being affected negatively here? As Bill Murray stated in Meatballs it just doesn’t matter.

FYI, for those interested, looks like Whistler scanners are once again available for purchase directly from the Whistler Group. Scanner Master has them listed for sale as well, at lower prices points, but they're all marked as out of stock.

Starting to creep into the not so cheap price...with most folks wanting to spend $25 on a GMRS handheld it will be internesting to see how many sell. I paid not much more for my Midland 575 on sale last fall.

I hope you stick around and I hope you do ask questions. Some are more difficult than this one but sometimes people just need to chill and remember that they weren’t always so perfect.

Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Single vs Dual Display question

Sounds like it’s time for a trip down owners manual lane. -
See. I’m not ALWAYS totally out of line.
-
I'd give 10:1 odds there's someone in the club who would be glad to help. IME. most hams aren't actually hostile to GMRS, but the ones who are make a lot of noise. Most hams love to share knowledge. I'd be glad to help if I lived close. In exchange for the tone to your repeater, of course.

Oh trust me, I was pissing and moaning when they transitioned to digital. The sound quality of the analog was far superior to digital. Not a problem now, we're all programmed to accept crappy sounding phone calls. What choice do we really have?
-
I will wager this statement will prove false.
-
Notice, I stated the primary purpose is to pass data. I did not state a fixed station was data only nor reference nor imply that was their only use.

Wouxun KG-1000G Plus Single vs Dual Display question
BobDiamond posted a question in Technical Discussion
I am trying to switch between dual display and single display on my KG-1000G Plus. When I hit the TDR button on the mic (#8) all I get is a double beep. When I enter the TDR function in any of my channels I also just get a double beep. Also when I press the AREA button I get a double beep. I want to stay in single display mode and customize the text in the unused area. Somehow, when I was trying to do this the unused area now says RPT-TX all the time. The owners manual is not much help. Any help is appreciated. Thanks! -

FCC Part 95 Subpart A - 95.303 Definitions: Base station. A station at a fixed location that communicates directly with mobile stations and other base stations. Fixed station. A station at a fixed location that directly communicates with other fixed stations only. The Term "DATA" Is Not Referenced In These Definitions For The Type Of Transmission. https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-D/part-95/subpart-A

Don’t forget WiFi, Bluetooth and satellite radio/TV.

And most phone land lines are now VOIP which is also digital.

You can quit using your cellphone. It’s based on wireless two-way radio and digital voice technologies.

I follow this type of programming scheme also. Local (Phoenix) Northern Az, Southern Az Western Az, Eastern Az. Both portable and mobile are set up the same exact way. Only difference is I have a few less zones on mobile as I can put more channels in there for a bank. I did 2 friends like this and the like it also. This way when traveling they just go to that zone to listen to traffic. (Scan list is by zone also but user programmable)
