Daiwa CN901V SWR/PWR Meter for GMRS
WSAM454 replied to BobDiamond's question in Technical Discussion
Are you sure the jumper cable to the meter isgood? Can you use a double female SO-239 in place of the meter to see if things return to normal. If they do, then something is wrong with the meter. If not, then possibly a bad jumper cable. -
I have a Wouxun KG1000G+ with power supply that I am using as a GMRS base station with a Diamond vertical on the roof of my house. Transceiver connected direct to the antenna works perfectly. I just put a Daiwa CN-901V SWR/PWR meter in line and the meter is not showing any output power and it seems to be attenuating both the receive and transmit signal significantly. The meter is brand new, out of the box. I checked the obvious, radio to meter input, meter output to antenna, and 13.8VDC applied to the meter. But with the radio set to 50 watts output the Daiwa CN-901V shows nothing. What could be wrong aside from a defective brand-new meter?

I think that the nursing home took the hint and changed to a different channel, I haven't heard them on channel 17 for about a week now. I decided to talk to another guy on channel 17 one day and we are both using 50 watt radios. I'm sure we were blasting their FRS radios. -

We have been happy with the RC-210 that is currently controlling our 2m repeater. One of the two controllers will be getting a temperature sensor so we get warnings when the shed gets too hot or too cold. We found out that the Motorola Quantar repeaters do not like the heat. The current controller also monitors our battery backup system and announces when everything is running on battery backup.

Think of all the fun that could be had if someone handed out some cheap FRS radios to the patients at the nursing home… -
Exactly the way I'ding is suppose to be. BTW,, the RC-210 is a nice versatile controller. I saw a 3D case on Makers World for this board.
-
I don't care for any repeater doing that. We are going to use an Arcom RC-210 controller for our GMRS and 70cm repeaters. We are going to set the controller to ID every 15 minutes but ONLY when there is actually people using the repeater. I just finished assembling the RC-210 board and am waiting on the case and real time clock. Then it will be time to program it. And we will definitely have the repeater ID since it is open to the public.

We used them recently with three RVs on a road trip. Sure beats trying to set up a conference call or a group text.

Hey, how'd you know I'm in my underwear?

Personally, i think the guy's id'ing every 15 mins on the hour is no different than a dog pissing on tires.

You mean "radio dorks in thier underwear in thier parents basement"

I highly suggest a quick phone call to Comet, they are very friendly and will answer your question. My guess is use it if it makes you sleep better at night.

Part 95.1751 (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification IF: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section.

They do that at the local nursing home close to me. I thought about noting the names used, and Calling their Admin and reminding them of the Hippa Rules. Maybe their use on Gmrs would go away. -
Nothing wrong with talking to Other operators either ... Your so-called "Strangers"!
-
Yes. For sure. Skiing, biking, camping, and moving. We get a lot of good use out of them.

Great to hear. That’s what it’s for. I would not have figured you would have needed or wanted to use repeaters since it wasn’t a place you lived, worked or played. Gmrs is a tool. Gmrs is Not a way to meet strangers.

My wife and I are making an interstate move and it was great to have a radio in a Penske truck and one of our cars. In addition, we have two handheld radios. That made backing up the truck with a car carrier so much easier! She could direct me when I backed out of our original home. Along the way, she could pull behind me and let me know if there were any trailer stability issues at higher speeds. After a few hours, I had my wife drive the speed limit while I drove at a slower rate (trailer limit). We had some awesome range in Eastern Oregon. We had great range as she pulled away. Our radios have repeater capabilities but we kept them on a simplex channel. We said our goodbyes as she pulled away from the line of site. A few hours later, I caught up at the hotel. We have been long users of GMRS, and the service was awesome for the move. we hope that others get great use out of GMRS.

Folks need to get past this idea of 'more channels / frequencies' on GMRS. Out of everything that someone might want to change about GMRS, that's the one that's least likely to happen. The biggest issue is GMRS in is the LMR allocation for frequencies. We have commercial two-way above and below us. There are no more frequencies to be allocated to the service. And adding repeater pairs from the FRS frequencies really ain't gonna fly either because the interference issues that will be created by the bubble pack radios on those frequencies. Not to mention it would make all the current part 95 radios that aren't able to be flashed to add those repeater channels and make them obsolete. Which is what happened when CB was modified to have 40 channels from the original 23. While I don't like the idea of DMR or other digital modulation schemes being used on GMRS due to the issues that will create, it's a better and more reasonable option than getting more frequency allocation. They are NOT going to kick commercial users off their frequencies to give us more channels. -
i might be wrong. check this threat on another site: https://forums.radioreference.com/threads/icom-ic-fr4000-cw-id-help.443905/

I don't think you can set it on a interval timer. Kenwood's can be set that way.. Its probly better to set it for traffic only anyway
-
If they do, there's nothing about it in the instructions that came with the antenna. It seems like a good idea, though.

Have you tried contacting ICOM? Their phone support is very good.
