  1. Past hour
  2. Too new to know how to become one.... I am really interested in connecting folks in the Tidewater area (Virginia Beach, VA), more specifically the southside. The peninsula has a robust presence but we do not. I think we need to compliment the area for emergencies AND build the GRMS base here. So...let me know how I can pull this off getting to premium and start a club. 2/B) anyone interested, please speak up here or anywhere or on the FB page. DM me, whatever.
  3. That’s a tee shirt right there!
  4. Today
  5. Im often mistaken for an adult because of my age.
  6. Unless the output tone is different from the input tone … Which can be remedied by setting your radio to receive on the repeater input frequency and scanning tones.
  7. I’m running with a Midland NMO and the ghost antenna in the center of the roof. But, I’m looking at trying a window mount on the rear window (which has may have some issues due to the tent and defrost wires).
  8. Center of the cab roof is always going to be best.\ I don't know how thick the roof metal is on a 2006 F150. but the roof is pretty thin on my 2010 F150. A magnet mount does hold the antenna at highway speeds but it won't take much to knock the antenna off. I'm going to go with a permanent NMO mount as soon as I can find someone close to help with the install.
  9. My suggestion is mounting it top/center of the roof.
  10. I have a 2006 F150 with super crew cab. I recently bought a Midland MXT575 radio and am exploring different mount options. If anyone has suggestions for mounting ideas, I'd appreciate any and all ideas!
  11. Hey folks! Had a great time at the Meet-N-Greet. Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out and share a few pictures! Talk to you all soon!
  12. There's your mistake, right there.
  13. You give them far too much credit...
  14. Umm, we are all adults, right? We all faced the same learning curves, right? We all can still communicate even with different terminologies, right? We adapt to the situation's terminologies, right? (kinda like two tradesman from different states working together and his whosiewhatsit is the other guys thingajiger but by the end of the day they understand the same concept). Teaching and mentoring is one thing but you can't force someone to learn anything especially based on your perception. Lead a horse to water type thing. Justa Sayin'
  15. It's not really on topic for this thread. Here's my thread on it from a few months ago; we can discuss it there. (But, I'm done responding to all the crazy stuff posted on this site.) https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/10063-base-station-cannot-use-repeaters/#findComment-106907
  16. I thought about that, I will. Thanks for replying.
  17. Huh, is there any possibility that you can explain what you are trying to convey? I'm kinda less than a bright person and I am not a college boy and I barely got my high school diploma and I had to go to summer school to get the diploma. So, what the hell are you trying to say? What regulation are you referring to?
  18. Thanks for confirming: Afraid to.. or incapable of, honestly answering a simple question..
  19. I responded the way I wanted to (I don't care if it satisfies you). If you think you have good justification for linking, present your case to the FCC. As far as unjust, the only reg that comes close to that in my opinion is not allowing base stations to use repeaters.
  20. You didnt answer the question. Why are you afraid to answer the question?
  21. They aren't (in this case at least). I support FCC's strict prohibition on linking. Stand alone repeaters are enough. If they were to allow some linking it should be done by special permit only.
  22. This doesn’t sound “utilitarian”. In fact it sounds pretty social. § 95.1731 Permissible GMRS uses. The operator of a GMRS station may use that station for two-way plain language voice communications with other GMRS stations and with FRS units concerning personal or business activities.
  23. But what if said rules are unjust and amoral?
  24. Yesterday
  25. Screw that. This site should not be promoting breaking the rules.
  26. Yep. me too. I understand doing it as needed. You never know who is on the other end and what ability to hear they may or may not have. Or if they can understand my voice. SO if they ask, I will give the call phonetically. But not every time. I got screwed by the FCC with a ham call of KB8VUL... now I get a TON of people thinking it's KD or even KE8.... but the VUL part, yeah, that's just a mess. So I do slow down giving my suffix. And it gets butchered a BUNCH. Now if I am on HF and trying to get a contact together for LOTW or something like that then I try really hard to let them know the correct call sign. If I am on the FM repeaters.... na. The only call sign you are REQUIRED to know per the FCC is your own. There is no requirement for logging contacts any more.
  27. Because Randy said ...
  28. The issue is not what it says (anyone can copy and paste), but that people don't agree on the meaning. All you have to do is look at some of the past threads to see the interpretations being applied.
