  2. If the roof top metal is that thin then consider some kind of backing plate on the bottom side to distribute the bending moment created by wind resistance on the antenna at highway speeds. No use in seeing the roof buckle around the mount if you can avoid it. I have a sun roof on my CX-5 so even if I wanted to drill a hole, which I don't anyway, there is precious little room. That's why I had the optional roof rack rails installed when I purchased it. The mount attaches to that. Even at highway speeds the 60 inch tall antenna isn't going to bend that wide rail. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/473-close-up-of-mobile-mount/?context=new
  3. After trying all weekend, I have to accept, that at 66, I can't do it by myself anymore Licensed GMRS person and I have a TID H3, and yes, it is in GMRS mode. I used it this past weekend, listening to a really cool discussion forum in NW Indiana and decided to try to dip my toes into GMRS repeater, so I asked for permssion to a local (to me, anyway) repeater and have been nicely granted access to PULASKI-550. Frequency is 462.550 Output tone is 141.3 hz Input tone is 110.9 hz I don't care how many times I tried putting this into the menu options that I "thought" required: 11, 13, 21, 23, et al, no combo would ever make this thing remotely sound like it was gaining repeater access. Can anyone help me with a simple guide to programming this repeater into my H3? I've tried various YouTubes and, of course, not a single one had anywhere near the setup I need for this repeater. Thanks in advance!

  5. Well if he bought the kit like I did it came with 50' of RG59u (58?) which was horrible for UHF and the cable being that long.
  6. What kind of range are you getting? If people can use it when they’re near, the most likely thing you have “wrong” is simply antenna height, as @LeoG said. The other possibility is that your signal is being attenuated between your antenna and your repeater. What is “50-3 pure copper coaxial extender cable for RT97L”? What cable type is it and how long is it? Perhaps the 50-3 refers to the length? 50 feet three inches?
  7. As said NMO mount dead NMO mount dead center of roof. I run 1/4 wave on mine but all depends on use case.
  8. I can tell you for sure half of the ones listed dont even exist. And the other half exist but are dead quiet.
  9. Bump. Any one close to Bushnell, Fl that can check out my RT97L Repeater system? It is not putting out as far as I think it should. I think I have something wrong. Thanks Sig.
  10. When I'm conducting tests (on air and not into dummy loads) I announce my call sign and "Testing" and when done, my call sign and "Clear". That way if I'm interfering with someone they can specifically refer to me by call sign to get my attention. If I hear a request for a radio check I'll reply with my call sign "copies you 5 by 5" or whatever reception quality I think I'm receiving. There's a couple of guys who rag-chew for several hours on .700 simplex every evening without ever IDing. Most boring conversation imaginable. My repeater ID's every 15 minutes if continually up, then 15 minutes after the last transmission and then goes silent until somebody keys it up again. There are some near me that ID every 15 minutes in both Morse and voice and announce the (incorrect) time regardless of traffic (and I've never heard any traffic other than the automated announcements).

  12. Too new to know how to become one.... I am really interested in connecting folks in the Tidewater area (Virginia Beach, VA), more specifically the southside. The peninsula has a robust presence but we do not. I think we need to compliment the area for emergencies AND build the GRMS base here. So...let me know how I can pull this off getting to premium and start a club. 2/B) anyone interested, please speak up here or anywhere or on the FB page. DM me, whatever.
  13. That’s a tee shirt right there!
  14. Im often mistaken for an adult because of my age.
  15. Unless the output tone is different from the input tone … Which can be remedied by setting your radio to receive on the repeater input frequency and scanning tones.
  16. I’m running with a Midland NMO and the ghost antenna in the center of the roof. But, I’m looking at trying a window mount on the rear window (which has may have some issues due to the tent and defrost wires).
  17. Center of the cab roof is always going to be best.\ I don't know how thick the roof metal is on a 2006 F150. but the roof is pretty thin on my 2010 F150. A magnet mount does hold the antenna at highway speeds but it won't take much to knock the antenna off. I'm going to go with a permanent NMO mount as soon as I can find someone close to help with the install.
  18. My suggestion is mounting it top/center of the roof.
  19. I have a 2006 F150 with super crew cab. I recently bought a Midland MXT575 radio and am exploring different mount options. If anyone has suggestions for mounting ideas, I'd appreciate any and all ideas!
  20. Hey folks! Had a great time at the Meet-N-Greet. Just wanted to thank everyone for coming out and share a few pictures! Talk to you all soon!
  21. There's your mistake, right there.
  22. You give them far too much credit...
  23. Umm, we are all adults, right? We all faced the same learning curves, right? We all can still communicate even with different terminologies, right? We adapt to the situation's terminologies, right? (kinda like two tradesman from different states working together and his whosiewhatsit is the other guys thingajiger but by the end of the day they understand the same concept). Teaching and mentoring is one thing but you can't force someone to learn anything especially based on your perception. Lead a horse to water type thing. Justa Sayin'
  24. It's not really on topic for this thread. Here's my thread on it from a few months ago; we can discuss it there. (But, I'm done responding to all the crazy stuff posted on this site.) https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/10063-base-station-cannot-use-repeaters/#findComment-106907 Here's another good post that discusses base stations and also quotes the regs: https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/4835-fixed-station-what-does-that-mean-to-fcc/#findComment-47394 There are also scattered discussions on this going back years before I came along. Lots of opinions but the FCC clarification is what counts.
  25. I thought about that, I will. Thanks for replying.
  26. Huh, is there any possibility that you can explain what you are trying to convey? I'm kinda less than a bright person and I am not a college boy and I barely got my high school diploma and I had to go to summer school to get the diploma. So, what the hell are you trying to say? What regulation are you referring to?
  27. Thanks for confirming: Afraid to.. or incapable of, honestly answering a simple question..
