80% No... and then 60% south of the border language.... and boy do they flap the jaw.. A good handful can go on from sun-up past sun-down and you hear this in LA, Riversie and San Berdino Counties.. San Diego is pretty much the same.
  4. So I have a Baofeng UV-5G Plus and a TidRadio H8. I'm having serious problems hitting a local repeater near me. The repeater is JoshRadio; I entered the tone listed and even drove within a mile of the repeater but no one can hear my transmission! Can someone please help me troubleshoot this problem? Maybe I missing it! Please HELP!!!
  5. That stuff happens because terrain acts like a wave guide, confines and reflects UHF signals to extend range beyond the RF LOS. Many people here have heard the term "Knife-edge Diffraction", but there is also Terrain Ducting / Terrain Channeling aka Guided Propagation.
  6. What I hear is that one guy is going into town to get parts for the tractor or a load of feed. He and his friend get together on 70 cm DMR for maybe 10 minutes every day just to check in with each other. It’s nice to hear.
  7. It's not fun... and I shared a significantly cleaned-up version of what was actually said.
  8. I am so glad that people don’t act like that here in Montana.
  9. My 5RM variant came open and I use it for ham but there's no way to lock it to only those frequencies. If you only have a GMRS license you would need a GMRS version to be strictly legit and these models are typically for HAM.

Does anyone ID, or is it a free-for-all?
  11. Possibly, but ducting is erratic, not consistent. If he consistently works from that spot, it's NOT ducting.
  12. Today
  13. Calling them "enforcers" is a bit of a stretch, dont you think? I mean, considering that for these rules they do near zero enforcement...
  14. Strange isn't it, that the radio rule-making enforcers would mingle an unlicensed and a licensed service with no way to distinguish the unlicensed users.
  15. Does it need to be unlocked. I realize this is a simple question. This is a 'specific info' example...
  16. The Comet 2x4SR definitely does better with a good ground plane underneath. I have one mounted on a small metal plate that is bolted down to an expanded metal rack on my SxS and another mounted on the center of the cab roof on my 2010 Ford F150 Super cab. I get an SWR of 1.8 and below on 2m, 1.25m, MURS, 70cm, and GMRS with both setups. It's hard to find a good spot with a large enough surface for a good ground plane on a Jeep Wrangler. Going with an antenna that doesn't require a ground plane will work better.
  17. GMRS Live is a variant of AllStar Link. Both use the Asterisk Server.
  18. I believe the Rasberry Pi thing was also used back in the linking days to interface with the Internet.
  19. That must have been fun. I was a section leader for AAVC7A1 which carried the Battalion staff COM element but that was when we had RT246's and 442's and changed over to SIGARS (SP)
  20. That's certainly one definition of "business"
  21. A den of thieves and liars with iniquity run amok..
  22. I wish it was that boring around here. We have the most uncouth people on the radio around here. One lady got on the repeater (not simplex) to tell her husband to go break-up the kids from fighting because she was taking a crap and couldn't get off the commode.
  23. i have a camp at the lake a half mile down the road on 4 and 5. sooooo tempting to chat them up
  24. But it is vitally important, if not imperative that they first discuss their recent Bunionectomy and the status of Myrna Mae's Hernia prior to getting into the nuts an bolts of antennae...
  25. To the best of my knowledge, there is no way to do that.
  26. These antennas are sensitive to the mount type and location. I ran an SWR scan on mine when on a roof rack type mount. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/615-ca-2x4srjpg/?context=new There is also a Diamond antenna very similar in design. https://forums.mygmrs.com/gallery/image/613-nr240ca-roof-rack-mount-swr-and-photojpg/
