I have seen certain PL/DPL codes that cause issues with some radios. If you can see the receiver LED is active before you actually start hearing audio, try switching your radios to a different PL code on the same freq & see if the problem goes away. For most of what I saw, it was usually the lower frequency PL tones (below 80 Hz) that were the ones that caused problems.

@WSFE961 I fixed your forum account so it shows the premium user group. This sometimes happens if you create your forum account after you sign up for the membership, sometimes the group doesn't get applied properly (a bug in the forum software we use).

No updates that I know of. Unfortunately there is no mic gain adjustments on the KG-1000G and the mic is definitely hot. The best thing is to make sure to hold it at a slight angle when transmitting.

We have these problems with frs radios at work. The people using the radios don’t know how to properly key them up before they start talking. (And for the record I tried to talk them out of frs and into Murs so not to take up an frs frequency but they didn’t listen)

Any updates to these kg1000’s sounding a bit over modulated ? Mine is getting occasional reports of it sounding “too hot” or too much mic gain or puupuupuu thhthhthh ish when talking on it. I don’t want to hold the mic 12” from my face when mobile and frankly don’t like doing it from a base either. Purchased it 5 or 6 months ago…..

I guess when I get a boring moment, I'll snap some photos of my racecar communications and post them. I've done several racecar comm installations in the past and yes on a occasion or two, installations with mobile radio setups because of the unique application requirements.

Is the other person using vox? Vox acts upon hearing a sound and as with everything the time it takes to key up can result in the very first sound being lost. If it’s truly a measurable delay from the time a sound is transmitted until the time it’s received, any humanly discernible delay would not be in RF reception, but delay could easily occur if any digital processing occurs, either at the transmitter or the receiver, or both.

If you are tracking your race cars on oval or typical road courses, a mobile radio is not the hot set up. You would be better off with a portable radio and an external antenna. If you were racing off-road or La Mans whereas there are miles between the driver and the crew/pit then a mobile radio would be the set up and the pit with a raised base station antenna and maybe a portable repeater at a higher elevation point. In the video, the radio was not installed in a good location. Reaching over to your side or behind you during a session on the track is not the ideal thing to do under those conditions. That would be a total distraction and may cause you to make a furtive movement in your driving. That installation was a very poor choice. The antenna mount should have been a NMO mount with either a Phantom, quarterwave, or a low profile blade antenna. The XPR mobile radio was also way overkill for several reasons. You don't need a 1,000 channels, maybe a radio with a channel capacity of not more than the total number of itinerant channels that would be licensed for would have been the smart choice. Maybe something like a Motorola CM200D or 300D or even a Kenwood would of been a better choice and a lot less money. He probably paid at least $1200 or $1300 for a radio that he didn't need. In my opinion, the video is a good example of how not to install radio communications in a racecar.

I don’t think so. You MAY from what I understand be able to totally reprogram the software firm ware to be a ham version of some other radio. it’s much easier to buy a ham radio that is already open or very easily opened to gmrs.

My GM15 radios have a slight delay on receiving the words of the other person transmitting. I often miss the first syllable of the person speaking. There is a slight, almost one second, delay in RXing. My POWER SAVE is set to OFF Is this problem inherent for these radios? My BF-F8HP does not have this problem Thanx, Neil

Is there a way to open up the gm15 for ham radio frequencies. ?? I have read that some other Baofeng radios can be unlocked for ham radio Thanks, Neil, w0yse

How do you know they are not saving? Have you tried activating a repeater?

Race enduros on Dirtbikes. I keep a uv5g in my pack(rarely cell service) and leave another one sitting in my pickup bed volume up. If my buddies finish the race before me because I’m broke down or something they know the radio is there and I can let them know what’s going on. Sometimes we car pool to the races and it’s a bummer when one guy doesn’t get back in a normal time and we all wondering if they are ok.

HA! I commented on that video. You can get a similar result for <$300. Well, maybe not at current prices. But that's about where I am for a single car, pit-to-car setup, with super-het radios. Those Racing Radios are *usually* business band radio. I like the stuff he builds, but for a guy always talking about how broke he is, he sure seems to like throwing it around lol For the grassroots racer, it'd be cool if someone at that level would show normies how to do it for more reasonable money IMO. That system costs more than all my radio gear combined.

Are you saving the file after editing it? You might try saving your edited files prior to uploading to the radio.

Steve is absolutely correct about the tests. If I can pass the Tech with a 35/35 and the General with a 35/35 then anybody can do it. They have some great tools for people to use to study for the exams (hamexam.org) is what I used (which someone here suggested.... thank you!). Ham is a great hobby and I am glad I did it.

Program the Dayton tones into channel 23 and the Tipp DTCS code into channel 26 and see if it works.

Everything looks right to me but, I don't have one of these radios so I'm not aware of any channel restrictions. l

Most of the large race teams have licenses for the system. My system in my jeep cost around that price with 2 headsets, headset jacks and radio. I dont run TRBO but have my VHF or UHF tied in on that jeep. Not sure if he is using a LMR system to give him long range or not but know some folks that subscribe to a LMR system to give them range and distance on RF. On a side note just got home from Windrock Park this weekend for our first JJUSA event of the year. Have 4 this year on top of other events. Was great to get in the woods and actually tested my new starlink mini in the jeep on the trails. Worked as expected but was nice to sit and lunch and upload some photos and videos while everyone else was out of service.
