  1. Past hour
  2. I pulled a query from the FCC's database for all active GMRS licenses within the state of Minnesota and plotted the data on a Google Map. I made the map public, and it can be viewed at this link. Hope this can be of use to some people! I certainly think it's interesting :)
  3. I use HRegistry upon watching someone's video that resides on here and talks about "SAD HAMS" all the time (which is fine by me). If I ever wanted to cancel and run into the problems listed above, then I would just stop payment, or close the PPal acct. Seems pretty easy to do that, plus when all the banks fail, and we go digital, it really won't matter because the FCC isn't looking for you anyway, they will either be overwhelmed or out of business in regards to a world who gives them the finger. Just an opinion,
  4. At the bottom of the listing it has this note - not sure if it matters here but for that repeater it says: " For all to enjoy. Have Fun and Be Respectful We will be adding Traveler Tones (141.3) " Make a duplicate channel and try it with those tones. Won't hurt to try.
  5. I have a few of the Boof Wangs, they are ok, got the td-h3 and really like it its small like the uv-5r and i like that but has alot of the newer features of the bigger radios. I ordered a Wouxon KG-uv9x im a little worried I won't like it due to the knob on top for channels but I am sure it will be fine just like all the rest of the gmrs / ham radios. Best one will be the one you like using, only way to figure that out is to buy them all.
  6. I left my goat rope at your mom's house..
  7. You’re not gonna insult him and call him a shill for Baofeng? I was so looking forward to another drunken goat rope….
  8. If you buy the $18 Baofeng and it does exactly what you hoped it did, there's definite case to be made that it is in fact the "best" GMRS radio.
  9. Obviously "the best" is the UV-5R because it cost only $18. as you can see, it depends on how you define "best" and what is important to you in a radio - so only you can answer the question.
  10. Today
  11. Just the absolute best, regardless of money? Someone will probably say get a Motorola. Best quality/performance/price ratio? some would say the TD-H8. For more money, great quality but is a mainline locked up 5 watter? Wouxun KGQ10G. Best is going to be subjective based on what your parameters are..
  12. V/M in the upper right of the face. It stands for VFO or Memory
  13. So, I gave it a shot, as programed in my attachment above from chirp, I key up and it opens the repeater, I call for a radio check and it seems like I'm getting a response per my meter/receive light but I can't here the response/any traffic. To rule out the no traffic on said frequency, I put my other H3 in frequency mode, punched in the frequency 462.xxxxx and I can hear traffic loud & clear. To be able to communicate rather than just listen, I know my Rx is blank in chirp as one pointed out so I figured that was the issue, but when I go into chirp and try to enter the 243DPL in Rx DTCS, it won't take. Any thoughts? Any suggestions or reconfigurations I can try? Am I missing/overlooking another setting? I'd really like to figure this out as it's one of the very few repeaters in my area I can clearly hit. Once again, many thanks for any help/info!! This is the info from my gmrs I'm trying to get set up properly..
  14. Lots of Motorola/Kenwood/Hytera comments... I'm sure I will be happy with the Wouxun, but I'm also sure it won't be my only or last mobile.
  15. That sure makes it more difficult to find GMRS users within hamregistry’s zip code, but those are the folks who don’t want to be found anyway.
  16. Exactly, don't know until you try. You have the coax and the pipe, sounds like a good excuse to do some "testing."
  17. I’m in Florida but my address is in NJ through Ham Registry. It’s possible to do as mentioned, but most have a P.O. Box or,,,, etc KF7JKO/WSCH851
  18. I’d say for the most “complete” offerings regardless of price, the Wouxon KG-Q10G and KG-UV9GX come to mind first. The Tidradio TD-H3 and TD-H8 are also great options for a lower price.
  19. Yes, the fcc license search.
  20. I noticed that on myGMRS you can view a user’s location by lookin up their call sign. Is there a “reverse” function of this? In other words, view a list of call signs / myGMRS users in a specified area? Would be cool to be able to add some local users on this website, but also understandable if this feature would be considered a privacy concern….
  21. Not to change the primary subject, but how do you change from channel to vfo mode?
  22. Go to link below, and join/pay dues.
  23. Looks good. You can always add the receive later. Send it. See what happens.
  24. Height is the main variable for improving your GMRS performance. The 5 feet could be just what gets you past a hump somewhere, or it could not matter at all, depending on said hump.. If you've got the coax coiled up, you might as well be up there the extra 5 feet.
  25. For comparison you could look at one of the pre-programmed repeater channels 23-30 You could key up and if you have it wrong it wont matter/wont hurt anything On a GMRS repeater if the frequency given is 462.xx then it will always be +5 It looks like you haven't added the recieve-tone, but that is optional anyway, and for a beginner/to reduce potential mistakes i would not bother with it yet It all looks right but the only way to know for sure is to try it.. and remember, if it's not right, it doesn't matter/nothing is going to break/no airplanes will drop from the sky.
  26. Semi newbie needing help.. Open repeater in my area.. I'm trying to program my TD-H3 with a DPL243 input and output tone. I don't want to key up and test it unless I have it set up properly. Also, it doesn't note if it's plus or minus, should I assume it's Plus? To add, yes I'm in range of the repeater and yes I was told it is still active. I never added a DPL only CTCSS .Does this look correct? These are the fields I entered in CHIRP. Please see attachment. Thanks in advance for any help!
