  1. Past hour
  2. We use them at work, but not for GMRS of course. UHF P25 system with encryption.
  3. Best advise you ever gave - the MXTA26 is most excellent at putting out the Farsssss!
  4. GMRS: In the Exploder: Midland MXT275 - looking to upgrade to Radioddity Da40 or Retevis RA87 in the near future. Midland MXTA26 Antenna Home/Portable (off-road spotting/recovery) Midland LXT600 GMRS/FRS (only radio wifeypoo cares to ever touch!) Ham Stuff: Home: Yaesu FT-450D - TYT UV380 DMR a couple BooFwangs - Comet CHA250B Vertical @ 35ft Exploder: Yaesu FT-891 with ATAS120A antenna and Kenwood TM-281a - Comet dualband, forget the model # WRJG283/N0TXW
  5. The KG-935G is a very good radio with many useful features. Some of my likes include: Scan groups. This allows you to program a group of repeaters for your home area, and other groups of repeaters or channels along your route of travel, or around your destination. I can preprogram the radio so that when I am in Dallas, I can select and monitor my Dallas scan group. When I am in Denver, I can select and monitor my Denver scan group. If my route takes me through Albuquerque, I can select and monitor my 'querque scan group while I am there...without having to download to the radio. This is the reason having a 999 channel memory is also useful. The 935G accepts Wouxan's USB-C rechargeable 1A26KG-8 battery. I had to order this battery separately, but I like not having to carry a charger for the radio. I can charge the 935G with the same cable I use to charge my phone. The 935G is CHIRP compatible. Wouxan does offer their own programming software, and I have no doubt that it works just fine, but CHIRP compatibility means that I can copy and paste repeater channels from other non-Wouxan CHIRP compatible radios without having to hop between software applications (or load new software on my PC). Another feature I like on the 935G is the channel knob. Not a big deal, but when you use a radio with up/down arrows, or direct entry only, you notice the absence. The one dislike I have of the 935G is that it can only scan one band at a time. Wouxan does offer at least one radio that can scan two bands simultaneously. I think it is the KG-UV9GX, which also has the scan group feature. This would allow you to monitor two scan groups simultaneously if scanning is important to you.
  6. Today
  7. Oh this getting comical. They wrote back and said location was fixed, but now you can't pick a state... I'll just give them a couple weeks to get the kinks out.
  8. Well the call sign entry got fixed, now there is an error for 'Location'. So maybe later this week it'll be working.
  9. You are correct that the concepts don't change. I am use to working with electronic components for industrial machine controls which work a little different that when in radios. That has tripped me up a little.
  10. I’ll see what it does when I get it up, hopefully tomorrow. If not I’ll think about getting the Comet.
  11. No, ultimately it was defective, so I sent it back to China for a refund. Subsequently, I was given one in a swap and I will use it with the Radioddity DB25-D that I acquired recently.
  12. What setting were you running when you were using them for FRS? FRS and gmrs are all the same. FRS is only limited but wattage. Sooooo I’d bet you were actually transmitting on high not 2watts or less. So you would experience no difference since if you were on high 5watts you were actuall using gmrs all that time.
  13. The new question pool is already available to download for free. But honestly if you learn and understand the concepts in the old test you should be able to pass the new test. The concepts haven’t changed.
  14. That’s too bad about the tram. The comet 712 is available from several retailers ready to ship. It’s about twice the antenna for $30more. My comet 712efc does over 200miles it’s 30’ up with a 20w base. My neighbor had a tram. He was lucky to get 20miles with his 50w.
  15. Gigaparts has the 712efc in stock for $130: https://www.gigaparts.com/comet-ca-712efc-460-470mhz-base-repeater-antenna.html
  16. I bought two of the H3's to replace my Cobra Microtalks. I only used them on the FRS channels for several years because I was worried the Men in Black would show up and cuff me. Got my GMRS license and was slightly upset the GMRS channels on "high" power didn't work much better. We'll see how 5 watts and a better antenna work. -Dan
  17. The Comet wasn’t available so I ended up with the Tram 1486. My antenna will be 40 feet off the ground. Which will be higher than anything else around, as far as my eyes can see. Just have to remember not to look down when I’m installing the antenna.
  18. I've cycled through all 3 options and they do what they say. Every time you change it deletes things. At the end of the menu system, it opens up even more frequencies above gmrs, but every time you upload to it, you have to change those settings again. About to do a firmware update and see what that opens up. Nice little radio, it replaces my 1.2 meter, 2 meter, 70cm ham radios along with my FRS, MUCS, GMRS and Marine VHF radios as well...
  19. A reminder that the Extra question pool changes either next month or July. Wait to buy any Extra study guides until they have been updated. I passed my General test in January and went ahead and took the Extra test. I got 50% on the Extra without even studying for it. I need to start studying again for the Extra.
  20. 47 CFR 97.1751 c (1) (2) states: (c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification if: (1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and, (2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section. If the above is met, repeater does not need to ID
  21. Baofeng and TYT hand mics have the same issue with the mic hole being too small.
  22. #) they are assuming (ya, I know...) that the users of the repeaters will properly ID themselves and as such the repeater does not have to transmit an ID
  23. Yes, we are. I'm in a similar situation; considering a repeater for neighborhood comms because sometimes the weather here can get nasty.
  24. Oh I forgot you did say you’re going to review it in your last YouTube video. I can hardly wait to see what you have to say. Your videos are really informative and interesting. I like your attitude not to mention your T-shirts.
  25. I’ve only ever seen problems with radioditty and retivis mics.
