sjmahler got a reaction from SteveShannon in A Script to Help Networked Repeater
I have a shell script that you might enjoy. I am just putting my Node / Repeater in service. This was originally written for ham nodes. If you operate or debug using a console session (SHH, PUTTY, etc.) and you want to send the repeater a DTMF command you can pick up a radio or type a somewhat long command. Script "rpt" from the console makes it easy.
Simulates sending DTMF command *3111 > rpt *3111
Simulates sending DTMF command *3222 generating the "*" for you > rpt 3222
Not a big deal but I use it all the time.

Around here you could ask a LEO for a 10-21 and a Firefighter for a 10-21 ... one would call you, the other bring you a 2 1/2 inch hose. QSL?

Yes it can! I have a video on YT showing it... it's realistically the same radio as a UV5R, just locked go GMRS frequencies. There's 2 ways to go about it and be able to TX on it.
1. Use chirp. Download the daily installer and update it. Use the Radioddity UV5G option, not the baofeng UV5G option. Use a Cross tone with a Rx and Tx tone of the same for the repeater; then set an offset of 5 mhz. Remember, these have to be set on channels 31-127. Any other channel and it will default back the original channels. You can still name 1-30 though! You don't have to look at the ugly "REPETR8" haha.
2. Utilize the save feature while in channel mode. Sounds funny becuase it is. So let's say you have two GMRS Repeater on Channel 15/550. One of them has a tone if 100(A), the other 123(B). Set channel 23 (REPETR1)[A] To PL 100. Save [A] to channel 31. This will copy all data to channel 31. Effectively, channel 31 is now the exact same as channel 23[A]. Now change channel 31s tone to 123[B] and boom. You have that Repeater avaliable.

Sure ! I will try your suggestion again. Further information ... moved to Windows 7 laptop, it finds the Com Port but unable to do the read. It talks about a bad format. So, for fun I put the power supply on the 97. Display lights ... but the controls don't act like the manual that came with the unit. LONG press up / down is channel UP / DOWN. Short press UP/DOWN is VOLUME UP/DOWN (a surprise but maybe good because I have an old URIx and PI waiting). LONG PRESS UP AND DOWN to see the PL tones. Are we having fun yet ??? I must have firmware that doesn't match the PC app (ignoring the comm port issue).
Dimensions (including things sticking out): 11.5 W X 8.25 H X 3.25 D let me know if you need additional info.
Thanks for your suggestion! [Enjoy your vids !]

I had this issue with my RT97 and had to change the comport assignment to 1 or 2 using Device Manager - sounds like you tried that, but just in case you meant something else give that a try.
Also - would you mind measuring the size of your 97S? I would like to see if its larger than my RT97 ..
