  1. I'm going to get my HAM license "IN spite" of the sad hams.
  2. @Reclusiarch Concerning CHIRP, did you actually read from the Wouxun first? You can't just take the Baofeng file and upload it strait to the Wouxun. You have to download from the Wouxun and then copy/paste your channels from the Baofeng file to the Wouxun file. Then you can upload the Wouxun file to the Wouxun radio.
  3. Most of my radio use is while mobile. I get a lot of picket fencing on both tx & rx. Some places are worse than others.
  4. Another example of the "entitlement" attitude.
  5. Not surprised. The way a lot of electronics are packaged (or packed) these days helps to protect them from physical damage and also from the elements. Unfortunately, it also sometimes protects them from us.
  6. @Sshannon Is this the one? I'll have to keep that in mind. I do want to upgrade to a better antenna some day for mobile. Another question about it: it appears to have that "fold over" feature. I've seen complaints(not necessarily that antenna) that it will sometimes fold down when getting up to speed. Have you experienced that? Thanks.
  7. Here is the PDF. eb8ecdb4-dd29-4556-b6f5-6e260a31350e.pdf
  8. I agree. I intend to get my ham license soon and have no desire to use that to police or otherwise screw up GMRS.
  9. I'm not into model railroading but I took my kids to a couple of events some years ago and it is truly amazing. Can't spend the time and money on it myself but I hope you find plenty of others to work with.
  10. I have used both the Abbree 771 and the 771G with no noticeable difference between the two although you can see a slight difference in length.
  11. @WRFP287 You are right, "Tone" leaves RX open. It sounds like a problem with the radio. I'm surprised that a Wouxon is doing that. Do you have another radio you can test with?
  12. @Adamdaj probably half the people I talk to on the radio are using non-type certified radios. And guess what, I don't care.
  13. Merry Christmas!
  14. That's how I do it. I have different programs depending on which route/destination I'm going to be using.
  15. Just use a lightning arrestor like this one on the antenna feed line. If you had a tower, you would want to ground that.
  16. Try adding the frequencies you want to scan into channels using the programming software. It appears that this radio doesn't have a VFO mode.
  17. I think you should send it back. I doubt you will be able to do anything about it. This may not be an uncommon problem with cheap radios. I have a UV-5R GMRS with a row of pixels out right through the middle of the top line. The radio still works and I can still read the top line so I never sent it back. Now you've got me worried the whole thing may go out.
  18. You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
  19. Anyone can hear your repeater. All they have to do is be on the same channel and use the same tone or no tone at all. Repeaters have to identify. If you transmit, you have to identify. As far as compliance goes, as long as you meet all the other requirements i.e. <= 50 watts, proper frequency, etc. you probably will not have an issue.
  20. I haven't used Zello in a while but I can confirm that I and many others have transmitted on @OffRoaderX repeater using Zello. It works quite well.
  21. As far as I can tell, for GMRS, those channels are only useful for radios like the Baofeng MP31 that can transmit at .5 watts on those channels. RF Output Power ≤2W (1-7&15-22&23-38Channels) /≤0.5W(8-14Channels)
  22. Be careful, last time I pulled the pin on something, it went BOOM!
  23. @WRUU653 That's a great punch line! I'll do a reaction when I get replenished.
  24. That is my understanding of it. What the amount of time is, I have no idea.
  25. That reminds me of a joke: "I've only made one mistake in my life, buying an eraser."
