@WRXR255 most GMRS radios have the offset baked in on the repeater channels.
-
@WRDJ205 How did you get it to display the version? Thanks.
-
I've seen it done via a repeater linked to Zello. @OffRoaderX had a setup like that but I think he unlinked everything.

I also have a Retevis radio that I program in the truck and it is so much more simple
If you don't have very many channels you are trying to program then yes, it is probably simpler than using chirp. However, if you are trying to program lots of channels in multiple different radios, then it's chirp for the win.

Try the stock ones first.
There are also 701G antennas. Better than a lot of stock antennas but not as long as the 771. Nagoya and Abbree both make a 771G but only Nagoya makes a 701G so far. They both make the 771 UV and 701 UV. I've tried both of those on a UV-5R GMRS and they both worked quite well. No doubt the G version will work better.

I have heard that your body acts as a ground plane or counterpoise so it depends if you are holding the radio or not.
Seems like I've heard Randy and Josh both mention this. I think one of them said that many radios are even tested this way at the factory.

@WRDJ205 I'm at work and left the radio at home so I haven't been able to do anything yet. I will as soon as I can and let you know the results.

@WRDJ205 what firmware version do you have?

@WSBU687 try Texas GMRS.net. There are repeaters listed there that are in your area that usually have traffic.
-
That is already being done. Different frequencies, different tones, linked. I talk on two of the repeaters almost every day. I've gotten to where I know right where I need to switch from one to the other.

After reviewing and liking most posts here I'm feeling quite small here
Your list looks pretty impressive to me.

I did order a speaker cable so I can plug into my stereo's AUX port to use those speakers if needed.
Double check the impedance. It's my understanding they are different. Also, I think there are devices you can get to fix that problem.

Now we have these guys all over it seeping the ham flavor all over it and making it uncomfortable for our families to be on.
I'm glad that's not the case in my area. So far, I've only encountered one ham that was a jerk. He was on a ham repeater ranting about GMRS and NO other ham agreed with him. We all defended GMRS and basically told him to shut up. I never could get his call sign but I think, by his voice and his rant, that he was the same guy I heard several months ago on a GMRS repeater ranting about something.
I think it's more about the individual than the radio service they are using.

it doesn’t work
If you mean, it doesn't transmit, I suppose I wasn't clear. Some radios only give you 8 repeater channels that will transmit. The rest of them can listen but not transmit. I think they do this because they do not understand the regulations for GMRS radios.
If you mean, it doesn't receive, you need to send the radio back and ask for a new one that works or get your money back. It should at least receive on those other channels.
-
I do not have that specific radio but I know that some GMRS radios have the firmware programmed correct and some don't. The firmware should only prevent you from transmitting on non-GMRS frequencies. Some manufacturers mistakenly think you can only have 8 repeater channels that you can transmit on and only monitor after that. It sounds like the UV-9G may be one of those radios.

What is the difference in etiquette on a ham repeater vs. a GMRS repeater?
On the repeaters I use, very little if any. Apparently in some areas there is a big difference but I'm not sure why. There are still a lot of repeaters in my area(Houston) that I have not used yet. Maybe some of them will tell a different story.
