  1. @wrci350 is correct. It's an old military term if I recall.
  2. I can confirm that they are hard coded into my MP31s but I had to add them in my UV-5R GMRS.
  3. Man! All this "Times New Microwave" stuff is making my head spin. That's not going to be on the test is it?
  4. @WRYC330 I understand what you are saying and I agree mostly. Just keep in mind that any time you try to operate a piece of equipment outside of "normal" operation, "you never know what you're going to get."
  5. LOL! Unfortunately that is probably true.
  6. The lack of this very feature is the biggest reason I avoid Midland products. Other than that they are nice radios.
  7. @WRYC330 The "GMRS" UV-5R is, as the name suggests, an FCC type certified GMRS radio which means it cannot transmit on any frequency outside of GMRS frequencies. The original UV-5R is not type certified for GMRS. There are lots of radios out there that will physically allow you to transmit on GMRS frequencies but it is against FCC regulations to do so.
  8. OK, now I have to go dig mine out.
  9. I was biting my tongue trying not to say that.
  10. Sorry to hear that. You are welcome back to Texas any time.
  11. This is one thing they got right with the UV-5R GMRS. I have lots of repeaters programmed in for travel. I also have some ham repeaters programmed in as well as the NOAA frequencies. It rightly doesn't let me transmit on anything but the GMRS frequencies.
  12. @WRYS709 As far as I can tell, the latest Anytone version is 2.00. Let us know if you see a later version somewhere. Thanks
  13. Don't let the CDC find out.
  14. It is common with these CCRs that more than one seller will use the same guts but different label. In many cases, the manufacturer will place the labels on at the plant before shipping to the seller. I have the "Baofeng UV-5R GMRS" and yes, I program it using "Radioddity UV-5G" in CHIRP. Baofeng does have a version of their software that will program it but I like CHIRP better.
  15. Actually, I think there is logic to how they are doing it. Unfortunately, it's not the kind of logic that you and I approve of.
  16. Just more Uncle Bill/Micro$oft shenanigans. "YOU WILL BE ASSIMILATED!"
  17. I agree with @Sshannon. Lots of people have reported problems trying to connect to their radios with Windows 11.
  18. Here's another interesting letter. https://www.fcc.gov/document/thomas-warmouth-collegedale-tennessee
  19. This is a strange world we live in seeing how the information is not private in the first place.
  20. @WRYQ685 & @WRYQ274, Welcome, this is a great place to be to discuss two-way radios.
  21. @WRUE951 like this one?
  22. @WRQC527 I'm out of reactions but as soon as the time elapses, I'm going to like that post.
  23. I can see that there are valid points being made on both sides of this. Let me point out that, in my very limited experience, I have not been able to hear more than two repeaters at the same time. That leaves me 20 other channels to use.
  24. @WRKC935 I for one, appreciate what you and others are doing in making these repeaters available. I certainly can't do it.
  25. Yeah! Don't be so "standoffish!" Sorry for the bad joke, I couldn't resist.
