The Mesa Crest Repeater Club Clarifying the MISS INFORMATION
WRXT271 replied to TMCRC's topic in General Discussion
So it looks like there is a way for repeater owners to petition for more pairs. A consortium of repeater owners must contact a communications attorney to do the petition correctly. OR Repeater owners can just keep fighting like little children and absolultly nothing will get accomplished.. -
The Mesa Crest Repeater Club Clarifying the MISS INFORMATION
WRXT271 replied to TMCRC's topic in General Discussion
A letter that I wrote to FCC and a response that I received: Mr. Cassato, Thank you for reaching out. We appreciate you raising the issue and your suggestion was provided to the staff responsible for the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS). If you would like to formally petition the FCC to change its rules then you may file a Petition for Rulemaking through the Electronic Comment Filing System (ECFS). To do so, you would go to “Submit a Filing” and then select “Submit a Non-Docketed Filing.” You can find that webpage at the following link: https://www.fcc.gov/ecfs/filings/nodocket. When submitting a Petition for Rulemaking, in the first drop-down box, please be sure to select “INBOX-1.401 | Petition for Rulemaking.” The procedures for what must be covered in a Petition for Rulemaking can be found in Section 1.401 of the FCC rules at: https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-47/chapter-I/subchapter-A/part-1/subpart-C/subject-group-ECFR9dcd67279c4756f. Please note that there are other rules referenced within this rule part that you must adhere to when filing a Petition for Rulemaking. I hope that this information is helpful. Thank you, Joshua Smith Assistant Division Chief Mobility Division Wireless Telecommunications Bureau (717)-338-2502 Joshua.Smith@fcc.gov From: Richard j. Cassato <WRXT271@aol.com> Sent: Sunday, December 17, 2023 1:49 PM To: Jessica Rosenworcel <Jessica.Rosenworcel@fcc.gov> Subject: [EXTERNAL]: Additional GMRS repeater frequency pairs Hi Ms, Rosenworcel, Ia there anyway that the FCC could consider assigning 8 additional repeater pairs for GMRS that do not have FRS traffic on them? The use of FRS radios in restaurants, schools and other businesses is extremely aggressive on the 8 repeater pairs. Thank You for reading this. Richard J. Cassato WRXT271 -
When the at779uv is started in GMRS USA mode it is a type accepted Part 95e radio. I cannot be programmed to transmit outside of the GMRS band.

What is the latest AT-779UV firmware version? (split CTCSS tone not working)
WRXT271 replied to Dave805's question in Technical Discussion
The latest CPS is Ver 2.01. The newest AT779 UV that I just received (!/5/24) is Ver 3.0. I had a radio with version 2.65. I had that decode issue with version 2.65. That is why after conversation with tech i bought a new AT779UV. Manufacturers rep told me that Ver 3.0 firmware will not work with older radios as newest version of AT779UV has hardware changes. -

Here is the odd part about this. Neither the current radio version 3.0 or the newest version od CPS 2.01 have all of those options. I have only SQ or CTCSS/DCS in both radio menu or pull down menu in CPS. -

I was a member of NSEA when I lived in the North Suburbs back in the 70's. I talked to the GMRS repeater owner a few months back. When I got my first license it was called Class "A" citezens band and I had a KAA call sign.- 8 replies

best ⅝ wave GMRS high gain NMO antenna
WRXT271 replied to CyborgAlienWRYG738's question in Technical Discussion
I only use two antennas. 1. https://www.amazon.com/Midland-Antenna-Durable-Connection-MicroMobile/dp/B084BPXNC5?pd_rd_w=Tr8TC&content-id=amzn1.sym.f8bd5c4a-4a1d-4518-8a74-d7b144a3f981&pf_rd_p=f8bd5c4a-4a1d-4518-8a74-d7b144a3f981&pf_rd_r=EMZY8AKVP8YZVKNTQWKT&pd_rd_wg=Vo7Bu&pd_rd_r=1af2672d-8467-4b75-adb2-be6d8664031e&pd_rd_i=B084BPXNC5&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_2_t. This has a perfect 1.01 SWR in channel 16 (462) and 1.5 SWR on 467 with out any tuning. Be aware that there is a look alike antenna that you should not buy. It fell apart as I took it out of tbhe package. The coil was loose. https://www.amazon.com/Antenna-Midland-GMRS-Radio-MicroMobile/dp/B0C13DLXGD/ref=sr_1_12_sspa?crid=2FXG6CLY7V7E5&keywords=gmrs%2Bnmo%2Bantenna&qid=1701981248&sprefix=gmrs%2Bnmo%2Bantenna%2Caps%2C149&sr=8-12-spons&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.17d9e15d-4e43-4581-b373-0e5c1a776d5d&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9tdGY&th=1 2. https://www.amazon.com/Browning-450MHz-470MHz-3dBd-Mobile-Antenna/dp/B00IDTJ2EA?pd_rd_w=Tr8TC&content-id=amzn1.sym.f8bd5c4a-4a1d-4518-8a74-d7b144a3f981&pf_rd_p=f8bd5c4a-4a1d-4518-8a74-d7b144a3f981&pf_rd_r=EMZY8AKVP8YZVKNTQWKT&pd_rd_wg=Vo7Bu&pd_rd_r=1af2672d-8467-4b75-adb2-be6d8664031e&pd_rd_i=B00IDTJ2EA&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_8_t. This antenna needed to be trimmed. I achieved 1.01 SWR on Channel 16 (462) and 1.5 SWR on 467. -
Anybody seen the new Retevis (Ailunce) HA1G radio?

I was hoping to find your excellent review on this radio. Once I get the radio I'll know about Windows 11 use. Something about an old and new chip in cable and required driver. -

I ordered the radio and programming cable, however it is still in transit. Has anyone tried programming the radio with the programming cable and windows 11? RJ -
I'm using two different antennas 1. Tram-Browning Browning 450MHz-470MHz UHF 3dBd 13 in. Land Mobile NMO Antenna trimmed/tuned to GMRS channel 16. 2. Midland – MXTA26 MicroMobile® 6DB Gain Whip NMO Antenna – Quadruple Signal Output – 32” Antenna. No trimming/tuning required. Both antennas available at Amazon. I used a SureCom SW-102 inline SWR/Power meter to check/tune antennas. Really great device. Very happy with both antennas. RJ

For GMRS I would only use an antenna similar to the one I use. It is cut for GMRS frequencies only. Tram Browning BR-6155 76inch fiberglass omnidirectional base 450-470MHz 5dBd antenna.

It has been advised to me from an Anytone technician that there are many Anytone versions of the AT-779UV. Use CPS version 2.01 and change the radio service in the CPS and then save first file. Then restart radio and read from the radio into CPS. It should give you all common GMRS channels. My Version of radio from Let's Get Ready did not have GMRS option in start-up. I had to change it in CPS 2.01. Remember every time the format is changed in radio all memory will be erased. So Using as a ham or part 90 commercial radio or GMRS Part95e, make sure to read from radio and save file i.e. "Ham radio 9/6/23" or GMRS radio 9/6/23" Alwayts date and save you last updated files in a folder so you can go back to older files if necessary. Good deal. I'm looking forward to setting BR-6155 up. I was on a REACT GMRS repeater in Park Ridge when I lived in Chicago.

I just ordered a Tram-Browning BR-6155 from Amazon.https://www.amazon.com/Browning-BR-6155-fiberglass-omnidirectional-450-470MHz/dp/B00S983H0K/ref=sr_1_1?crid=JOHH7Q1W5XRZ&keywords=tram+br+6155&qid=1693318224&sprefix=tram+br+6155%2Caps%2C137&sr=8-1 I have had great luck with all my Tram-Browning antennas for Ham, CB and scanner. I have a lot of confidence that it will be the same for this antenna. Also use only LMR 400 Flex coax. The BR-6155 uses an N-Type connector. So order your cable with a N-type at one end an a PL-259 at the other end. Order the length you will need + 20 ft incase you need to move your radio around in your room. For mobile antenna I have two. Midland – MXTA26 MicroMobile® 6DB Gain Whip Antenna – Quadruple Signal Output – 32” Antenna. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B084BPXNC5?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details This NMO antenna requires no tuning. 1.05 SWR Ch 16 (462 MHz) and 1.77 SWR on 467 repeater input. Tram 1241 5" NMO Magnet Mount , Black https://www.amazon.com/Tram-Magnet-Mount-5-25in-1-50in/dp/B07K8Q7PYD/ref=sr_1_1?crid=1B4GNIG8Z8YLL&keywords=browning+mag+mount&qid=1693319912&sprefix=browning+mag+mount%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-1 I use only mag mounts use this one for long antennas. Browning 450MHz-470MHz UHF 3dBd Land Mobile NMO Antenna. https://www.amazon.com/Browning-450MHz-470MHz-3dBd-Mobile-Antenna/dp/B00IDTJ2EA/ref=sr_1_1?crid=2WDL2ZYY7M3OJ&keywords=browning+gmrs+antenna&qid=1693319544&sprefix=browning+gmrs%2Caps%2C143&sr=8-1 This antenna requires trimming, however, I achieved 1.05 SWR Ch 16 (462 MHz) and 1.77 SWR on 467 repeater input on this antenna also. 1233-BNC Black 3 1/4" Magnet Mount NMO Mag Mount 17 foot Antenna Cable Roof or Trunk https://www.amazon.com/1233-BNC-Black-Magnet-Mount-Antenna/dp/B01AX1R1NY/ref=sr_1_7?crid=1B4GNIG8Z8YLL&keywords=browning+mag+mount&qid=1693319912&sprefix=browning+mag+mount%2Caps%2C139&sr=8-7 Use this smaller Mag Mount for smaller Tram 450-470 antenna. Good luck RJ

Looking for available repeaters near Burbank, CA
WRXT271 replied to WRXT271's topic in National and Regional GMRS Nets
I'm using posted tones. I do not know how accurate information is on MyGMRS. This is what I found from SoCalGMRS: https://socalgmrs.org/repeaters.php The list is useless. I have contacted them several times for information and permission and they will not respond. So I have no idea what is up with that group. -

WRXT271 replied to WRXT271's topic in National and Regional GMRS Nets
jgbeall: Here is where I found info on "Santa Clarita" repeater. https://mygmrs.com/repeater/1270 I'm seriously doubting the accuracy of MyGMRS information. I have had great success with Ham repeaters from repeater book and Rfinder through RTSystems CPS programs. I have had no reliable information from MyGMRS. I have not found a reliable database for GMRS repeaters. I totally get that repeaters do not have to be registered in a central database. So unless I meet someone that is on a system, I'm kinda shooting from the hip with a blindfold on LOL. I thought there was an open GMRS repeater on Oat Mtn. I guess I was wrong. I don't want to be any part of the "renegade" repeater on Mt Wilson. RJ -

Nokones A post in another stream claimed he/she activated 476.625 with a PL of 100 hz from Long Beach, CA. What is different from my ham repeaters is that the maps and info on MyGMRS do not give a lot of information on repeater location. I am familiar with all the mountain tops and where I should use them. -

I have several repeaters with listed PL tones from MYGMRS programmed into my radio. I have a small resonant antenna about 20 ft off the ground. Radio is an Anytone AT-779UV in the GMRS mode. There is a repeater listed above me on Verdugo Mts. but the operators will not respond to me for access. I have DILA 550, SVC 575, Ranchito, North County San Diego (Which I can Hear), Verdugo (With NO PLs to monitor only), VNC 550, Topanga (Which I did access from 1300 Ft in Glendale, CA) I cannot light up any of the others. I'm going by PLs listed at MyGMRS. I hear a very strong repeater on 462.675 but I have no idea what the PL is. I have looked everywhere for clues. I can access at least 3 PAPA repeaters. (Oat, Santiago, Wilson) on a 5 watt Handheld. So I should be hitting some of these GMRS repeaters with 20 watts and an outside antenna. Thank you all for suggestions. I can always use more suggestions. RJ -

I have several repeaters with listed PL tones from MYGMRS programmed into my radio. I have the capability to program many GMRS repeaters in my radio. I have a small resonant antenna about 20 ft off the ground. Radio is an Anytone AT-779UV in the GMRS mode.
