  1. Hey MoPho, Welcome Keith T
  2. Welcome RCM Keith T
  3. The main problem with the bubble pack radios is the price. The low price for two radios put them in the realm of toys for children. Prior to the last rule change this "toy status" guaranteed that licencing and regulation compliance never happened. The FCC answer was to make Frs / gmrs bubble pack radios all FRS radios, and begin to phase them out. Sounds suspiciously like phasing out the licence requirement for CB radios.
  4. I would like to see the cross band work both directions given the advantages of VHF frequencies. Lets not sell your idea short with a 2 watt limitation on the VHF side. In addition, allow simplex VHF usage. Thanks, Keith T
  5. What swr meter are you using? Ive noticed meters that read close to each other on VHF can differ significantly on UHF.
  6. Thank you both. I was wondering if it was just me.
  7. I have not received any NEW posts or topic comments since 09-26-18. Did I mess up my settings? I was trying to change profile about that time. Thanks, Keith T.
  8. Hi Rick, for adapters on Btech HT radios, go to Amazon and search for "SMA female to SO 239 adapter". Multiple combinations come up, with or without cable. Be careful, the further down you go, more "other" adapters show up. I mistakingly got a pair of SMA male to SO239 adapters. Good Luck, Keith
  9. Hi all, I just got off the phone with an engineer at Midland Radio. The 3 XMT radios (115, 275, 400 )cannot have a pl tone for transmit and NOT have the same tone for recieve. I asked about Chirp programming to alter this. His response was it might work. Problem, the slightest change would revert it back to "stock". Channel change, even a volume change. Midland does not have a fix in the works for this at present. I pointed that Bao Feng radios could do this. His reply was that Midland was looking into this for future models. It will a complete firmware revision to fix this. Thanks for listening to me cry. Keith T Radio is just a power supply for an antenna.
  10. Oh Good!
  11. Only question remains. Is the transmitter hypothetical or is the FCC? Hmmmmmmmm, well, somebody took my $70 ddollars for the license Sooooooooo?!?.
  12. The price of a Mid XMT400 ($200) vrs the price of a proper antenna ($35) I would not deal with it. Browning/ Tram 1170 (magnetic mount) or BR450 (nmo ) mount either one will come ain at 1.2 or less (swr) after trimming to the supplied chart. Why not just get the right antenna to star with. The aradio is just a power supply for an antenna.
  13. Currently, only 3 midland mobile's are repeater capable. The XMT400, XMT275, and the XMT115. Midland makes or has made several mobiles that are not repeater capable.
  14. Hi, Everything I have read says a ground plane antenna (i belive yours is) requires a conductive surface of 1/4 wave length in diameter. 462.xxx MHz is about 6.35 inches. It would help if you could put a piece of sheet metal under your antenna about this size. Ground it to the chassis.
  15. I currently use 2 different Midlands. The XMT400, ant the new XMT275. Both seem to work as advertised. I totally agree with the first two respondents. The antenna is paramount. The radio is a RF power supply for the antenna.
  16. Hi Hans, No, I have the 2nd version. Channels line up correctly as do privacy codes. They were sold as 5 watt radios. The manual with radio said <5 watts. Hmm, not a lie i guess. [2.7 and 3.0 watts.] Everything else on radio rates a 10. Considering a 3800 mhw battery is available even the broadcast fm radio is ok. One BAD THING. two switches under dual push to talk buttons. Upper can set off a hi-lo alarm that is broadcast on the selected channel on the screen.
  17. There appears to be 3 different versions of this radio. 1st. (Oldest) had channel #s off by one digit. 2nd. I bought this from Amazon Feb 6, 2018. Power is 2.7 watt and 3.0 watt.(2 radios) Browning 1170 antenna swr 1.2 on channel 18. MFJ-874 meter. Manual and advertising said 5 watt or <5 watt. 3rd. Power reduced to 2 watt. Advertising and manual both say 2 watt.
  18. What do you need to make a repeater.
  19. I bought 2 GMRS-V1 radios from Amazon several monthes ago. Using a Browning 1170 mag mount (swr 1.2) I measured 2.7 watts and 3.0 watts ona MJF874 swr/power meter. At the time they were advertised as <5 watts. Misleading but not a lie.
  20. If I understand correctly, a duplexer is not necessary with two antennas. This trailer is 16 ft in length. Aantennas would bebon 20 ft masts (from ground).
  21. Hmm, there isn't a device, a "repeater" tha is available as a unit?
  22. Hi, I have been looking into putting a repeater on my hunting trailer. Most all of the guys i hunt with carry gmrs-v1 radios from Btech. We hunt western Washington state, and these hand helds work ok. We have had concerns about losing someone (out of radio contact). My truck has a midland 40 watt, two other trucks have the 15 watt midland. The repeater in the trailer would be parked as high as possible plus a 20 foot mast. Electric pallet jack batteries ( 4 x 6 volt set up paralel over series, 12 volt ) power the trailer with a 3500 watt generator and 100 watt solar panels. Here is the question, remember i am new to this. What is necessary to build a repeater system.
  23. I am using the midland mtx400. I agree completely with the previous response from (Jones). The mag mount is a mag mount. Im using a Browning br450. Trimed it with the SWR trim chart to 465 mhz .this is a nmo mointed antenna so drill the hole. It works well.
  24. I have an MFJ-874. For accuracy, I have verified it on HF and it reads as expected for pwr and SWR. With uhf, it reads expected SWR after tuning two antennas by their trim charts. (Browning 1170 mag mnt, and Browning Br450 nmo). I have no verification of pwr readings on uhf however it read low for a Btech gmrs-v1 (3 watts) and acceptable for a Midland XMT400 (38.5 watts) only observed issue is poor quality PL239 connectors. Ive replaced both on the HF side. Not hard but should not have to.
  25. I am mounting two radios in my pickup. Accessibility and being inconspicuous are conflicting. I would love to see any and all pictures of your mounts. Thanks, Keith T
