They're using their call sign, which Doesn't ID the repeater. That's the whole point, is to id the repeater with the call sign of who it's licensed to.

They do that at the local nursing home close to me. I thought about noting the names used, and Calling their Admin and reminding them of the Hippa Rules.
Maybe their use on Gmrs would go away.
IF you turn your volume all the way down, then make your area change you won't hear the beep, but otherwise it's engineered to be what it is. Using an earpiece during hunting or Stealth activity is a just a suggestion.
Agreed. Strangely my Comet 2X4 also shows acceptable swr readings on 222 mhz. 20 mile simplex @30watts out and 30 miles to my closest 222 mhz. repeater @ 50 footup up with steel mending plates for a ground plane. a usable signal was surprising.
I have a old Uniden set that needs batteries so I nosed around on the batteriesamerica.com site and found a set ! They have batteries for quite a few different models in the 46/49 mhz. and 902-928 mhz. range.
Your Antenna and Elevation makes all the difference in the world. 50 to 100 mile range on 50 watts is Easily accomplished on both 2m and 70 cm with a properly tuned antenna ! I do it all the time .
