I think it is a good idea that all repeaters(GMRS OR HAM)has that feature in case of any disasters that everyone can be informed and take action as quick as possible.

My question is how do you know if the repeater is active? The database says it is active but how can you tell?

Just want to verify with everyone here. If a repeater is marked open and when you key up someone on the repeater ask you if you got permission to key up and use the repeater what you do? I asked him to check mygmrs and see that repeater is open but that individual kept insisting that i need permission. SIDE NOTE:I ALSO ASKED FOR HIS GMRS LICENSE # TO SEE IF HE IS LICENSED USER HIMSELF, BUT THAT INDIVIDUAL AVOIDED MY QUESTION ALL TOGETHER

Well we actually can't blame the radio company but to those who have surplus gears they want to get rid off and they use the flea market to do it. The sad part is that they do not explain the proper use of the radio and thats where the problens lie. (JUST NOTICED THIS IS A 5YRS OLD THREAD BUT JUST WANT TO PUT MY TWO CENTS IN) Alberto WRCC719

Thanks the reason i ask is that a local repeater (freq not listed due to privacy)has a total of 8 PL tones assigned is that going overboard just a bit? And i think these are CTCSS tones they are using

Hi WRCC719 here I just recently got my license and was told tHat you ID yourself at the begining and at the end of a transmission is that still correct? Why every 15 minutes though?
