  1. Yesterday morning my hour was struck by lighting. My antenna I just put up took the strike. My antenna and radio are toast. No I didn't ground like I should have. Was on my "to do" list. My question is should I replace the run of LMR400 going from my antenna to the radio? Yes I will ground this pole before anything else is done. This is a mess. Thanks WRCW870
  2. I had a Siro Antenna I was using to 11 and 10 meter. The wind broke the antenna off at the base. I am thinking of a multi-band HF antenna to replace it with. Planning on upgrading my license in the future and upgrading my radio also. I have been told I will need a manual antenna tuner. Could I get some recommendations on tuners and HF antennas? I have a 40ft tower I could mount on or the top my my commercial metal building. Maybe use building as ground plan. Building is 148X25. Thanks KI5GXD
  3. Update: I have sent a letter to the Sheriff's office. I have received no reply. I have my D578 up and running as a base station. I am hearing the traffic certain times of the day of this radio? Still think it's a harmonic? Thanks WRCW870
  4. WPXM352, The very basic violation is they are "broadcasting". This is not a communication between stations. This is an automated broadcast. As for the subject matter I am unsure of the violation there. Also I believe the station is exceeding the power limit for FRS. Thanks WRCW870
  5. I have put me up an antenna at my house. The antenna is a Diamond X50C2. Currently have connected to my GMRS V1. I have been scanning listing to town traffic on GRMS/FRS channels. I ran across some traffic that shouldn't be there. I tried to talk back until I figured out what was going on. Someone has set up a station repeater the Sheriff's department dispatch channel o FRS 11. Guessing the power is higher than the 500mw that is the limit. What laws are being broken? Plan to do a "fox hunt" to locate the transmitter. Report to Sheriff's department and file violation with the FCC. Thing you find on the radio... Thanks for reading. WRCW870 KI5GXD
  6. The business is the sole supporter of the these repeaters. If business use goes away so do the repeaters.....
  7. I will have them both tested and make my decision. Thank you for the advise. WRCW870
  8. We have talked previously about repeater controllers. I like the RC210 if it will work for what I need it to do. However my application needs may have changed at least for my 2 sites. The owner of RC210 said if I want to break out a certain tone and send it out via a radio link or Allstar this my be done my isolating it with a CTCSS decoder. One link slot and one CTCSS decoder for each tone I want to link out. I may have a need to link a few tones at each site. examples: Me and James in OKC are wanting to set up a common emergency link between Oklahoma repeaters all set the same tone. Linked at all times. Need my two repeater linked on maybe two other tones for group use and business use. I have just talked to a guy in Erick that wants to possibly link into the Elk city site from his. So Elk would need an additional tone. Yes I would need repeaters that are capable of acting as a tone panel. like a community repeater did in the old days. Just wondering if there is a better way to link tones more efficiently between sites? I do hope I explained my question well enough to understand. Thanks again for all your help. WRCW870
  9. I am in process of setting up my second repeater. This will be on top of a 200ft free standing solid rod tower sitting on a small hill. (if it matters) The antenna will be on top of tower. I have two antenna choices: The DB420 and a DB413 Which would be best? The DB413 has a offset pattern. This would be fine as I want more coverage West as I have my other repeater that has coverage East. The DB420 has a gain of 9.2 with 16 folded dipoles. The DB413 has a gain of 12.4 with 8 folded dipoles. I have both antennas. I am thinking the DB413 with the higher gain? Any options?? or advise would be great. Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD
  10. I am wondering if there is a list somewhere of all the HT's that meet the following specifications? DMR 136-174Mhz and 400-480Mhz Part 90 approved other features maybe water proof or water resistant? The Baofeng D-1701 The Anytone 686 plus The Btech 6X2 (the one I have) I know there are a few more that fit this list. Pro's Con's ect of each you know of. Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD
  11. I stand corrected. DMR, P25, and other digital voice mode are NOT allowed on MURS. The 578 is a Part 90 radio. The power level may be set as low at 5 watts. Programmed per channel. 65 Watt radio? I wish. 50 watts VHF and 40 watts UHF. Thanks for the correction. Still learning. WRCW870 KI5GXD
  12. Just another dumb question.. You are not allowed to have a repeater on MURS as there are no repeater offsets to use in this band. The Anytone D-578UV pro I have can do a DMR repeater function on one channel. Transmit on time slot #1 and receive on time slot #2. Would this be legal? Just using one channel. DMR and encryption are permitted on MURS. What are you thoughts... Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD
  13. This is off topic. I have some light-linkers. They are a data radio that transmit at a max rate of 57K or something like that. They are used to transmit data to my Christmas light show. The transmit power is 15mw with a unity gain ducky. Was thinking to upgrading the OEM antenna to a 4db walkie talkie antenna. What to you think that would do for range and through output? Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD Also this also falls under part 97 as weill.
  14. Sorry for the storm I started the long drawn out discussion on the net last night. I did get my question answered. I really didn't know you could use MDC like that. Thanks WRCW870
  15. Berkinnet: I bought 2 DB420's and this DB413 all at once from a ham radio guy. Have an extra DB420 not going to sell. Have a person in OKC that wants to buy the DB413. Just really didn't know what I had. Thanks for the information. WRCW870
  16. Hello Everyone, I have an antenna to identify. This is a DB Products antenna. The antenna has 8 elements all down one side. The antenna is about 20ft tall in two pieces. Trying to figure out a model number and a guess on what it's worth. The harness looks new. Thanks for your help. WRCW870
  17. WTF? I received my construction permit from ORSI. The application listed a max EIRP of 125 watts. However I listed the repeater at 50 watts. I am getting a EIRP of 160 watts with the antenna choice #1 and a EIRP of 347 watts with antenna choice #2. The application said I didn't want the repeater listed with the ARRL. ORSI shows it listed. I stated the site has backup power. The permit lists no backup power. Also the tone is listed as 114.8. This will conflict with another repeater on same channel in TX. May trash the entire idea if this doesn't work out. Didn't think this was going to be brain surgery. KI5GXD
  18. I requested that the PL tone be 151.4. This is what I listed on my application. This is part of the response I received from the ORSI. " We need to discuss PL tone. My first recommendation is either 114.8 or 141.3. " Why would I need to change to a common tone? That is not what I want to do. Thanks KI5GXD WRCW870
  19. Just sent off my application for a 2 meter repeater. How long does the process take? Thanks KI5GXD
  20. I used the Midland MXTA11 antenna. The one with the load coil in the middle. This is a poor quality antenna. I would not use it. We have went to the Comet CA-2X4SRMNO . This is the third antenna we have used. It is the best so far. Midland antennas would be fine to entry level and ease of starting up. However there are better stuff out there. Also the antenna is double the price. You get what you pay for. This is my 2 cents. Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD
  21. Planning on spending Saturday with the "Western Oklahoma Amateur Radio Club". They will have there radios set up. I am helping with lunch supplies. This is the third event I have been to so I will most likely listen and learn. Maybe ask a few questions. KI5GXD
  22. My setup: I have a Icom Fr4000 repeater with an internal duplexer. ( I beleave it is a mobile duplexer) The antenna is a DB420 on top of a 200ft tower. The heliax is 1 5/8" length is 210'. I am the only repeater in the tower in the UHF band. There is a repeater in the public service VHF band 100' below my antenna. I have a DB4076A duplexer from a repeater I had long ago. I would need to have it tuned. Would this be a better duplexer if I want to use a pre-amp? Also I have found 8 cavity mobile duplexers on E-bay. Would that be any better? Thanks WRCW870
  23. I am wondering if a a receiver preamplifier would increase the coverage of my repeater? Thanks WRCW870 KI5GXD
  24. The Repeater TX frequency in 146.760Mhz. This would be the receiving frequency on the crossband radio. The Crossband TX frequency is 434.425Mhz. The receive frequency is 446.225Mhz. I have not transmitted over the crossband link at this time. I am using as a monitor like and time time. I have the TX power set to 25 watts on UHF. Carrier squelch with a tone of 89.6HZ (custom tone) Thanks KI5GXD
