  1. Yup.. I got 38W IIRC, then 5 minutes later, it died. .....save the box...
  2. You have the Surecom plugged into the DummyLoad, right? If so, that is better than the antenna.. Make sure you have the repeater set to HIGH power, and if so, and you're only getting 8Watts, call BTech and tell them to send you one that works as advertised, or do what i did, just get your money back.

    Newbie

Using a radio like yours is not complicated nor difficult - if you can read, you can use the radio and honestly everything you need to learn is right here in this forum, on other websites, and in Youtube videos.. Using a GMRS radio is not like becoming an amateur-radio operator - you basically turn it on, pick a channel, tell the person you want to talk with to put their radio on the same channel, press the button, and talk.. using a repeater is only slightly more difficult.
  4. You configure your radio to use the repeater, then from nearby, transmit on/to the repeater.

    Help

    Geezus...
  6. It is likely that they are on a repeater, which is probably high-atop a mountain, transmitting at 50Watts from a giant, and perfectly tuned antenna. You could probably talk to them if you configured your radio to use that repeater.
  7. Because "some people" are very, very stupid.

    GRMS Needed?

Agreed.. I dont leave home without it.
  9. Yes, always. If it is not +5, then it is not, by definition, "GMRS". But I get what you're saying.
  10. ALWAYS.. GMRS always uses +5 for repeaters.
  11. My guess (100% GUESS) is that the duplexer is tuned better for Ch7.. I would not expect that much of a difference just one channel away but you should do some range-tests on all the different channels to see which one works best.

    GRMS Needed?

In a truly remote area (like the kind of places I go every weekend) there will not be any difference between a $18 Baofeng and a $300 50-Watt GMRS radio because neither will do any good.
  13. For those that may have missed it, and because someone was asking for more threads about it: How it started: How its going: How It's Going A Few Months Later:
  14. Poppycock! I for one think that more threads with links to those videos are what society and the world needs! Think of the children!
  15. In normal people language CPS is the computer software for programming the radio.
  16. Yes, they will notify you via email, but many people (such as myself) never see the email. it usually takes 2-5 business days and you can check the status by logging into the system with your FRN and stumbling your way to the "my licenses" (i don't recall the exact wording, but you'll see it) link.
  17. I approve this message.
  18. Indeed, the math does not add up.. Follow-up with the club-president coming soon.
  19. I haven't whipped-out my KG-1000G software in a a long time, but IIRC, you cannot program the buttons via the software, only directly on the radio.. But, if i'm wrong I will defer to anyone correctly stating otherwise.
  20. The NotARubicon Institute Research Staff is digging deeper and there IS something to this story - and the results may shock you... Stay tooned for the upcoming video.
  21. ..nevermind...
  22. You have succeeded.
  23. Are you hearing the static-tail when you let go of the button?
  24. I am going on the assumption that you mean GM-30, and because the GM-30 is a "GMRS" radio, you don't need to worry about the offset. You just find the correct repeater channel based on the frequency (probably CH25?), then add the transmit tone - don't worry about the receive tone for now because that is just more things to do wrong and confuckulate yourself with. You know if you are connected by pressing the push to talk button and calling out and asking if anyone can hear you. If someone answers "YES", or, if after you let go of the PTT button you hear a short blip of static (known as the tail or 'kerchunk') then you did it right.
  25. As per the User-Manual in pretty much 100% of radios that have a Call button, the Call button is to send an annoying noise out to all other radios configured in the same 'call-group', so they know you're about to start talking to them.. Think of those old Nextel radio-phones. It is about as useful as the 'Alarm' button on many radios.
