These are vestigial settings left-over from being a ham radio. Most GMRS radios are not designed as GMRS radios from the ground-up. Instead, they are repurposed ham-radios, and usually a lot gets lost (or remains) in the translation. Look through the menus of most of these radios and you will find options that make no sense on a GMRS radio, they do nothing, or, both.

Tx on one channel and Rx on different channel.
OffRoaderX replied to WSCA349's question in Technical Discussion
i have more experience and none of that makes any sense. -
85 Miles? How far away have you made contact?
OffRoaderX replied to Skunkworks's topic in General Discussion

I think we've all learned a very valuable lesson here today. -
Tx on one channel and Rx on different channel.
OffRoaderX replied to WSCA349's question in Technical Discussion
On the UV-5G-Plus, channel 23 is Repeater Channel #1 (aka 467/462.5500) and channel 21 is GMRS channel 21 (aka 462.700). Because the OP says he has not made any programming changes to the radio, your made-up scenario is... made up.. and therefore should be ignored. -
Tx on one channel and Rx on different channel.
OffRoaderX replied to WSCA349's question in Technical Discussion
If you have TDR/dual-monitoring enabled, and line-A is on Channel 23, and line B is on channel 21, then yes, this would be normal. -
You can use the same one.

The antenna that comes on the Q10G is a GMRS antenna, so it does not perform optimally on the CB channels.. .To "fix" it, you may want to try an antenna better tuned for CB.

Wouxan KG-1000g plus faceplate data cable
OffRoaderX replied to Gnarlykaw's question in Technical Discussion
Yes.. Its a bad combination. -
The final days of our "Delta" repeater were pretty pathetic.. After we shut it down a couple of the jammers and troublemakers moved over to the other high-level repeaters in the area. These people are absolute losers at life. i'm not just saying that - I know who they are, and they truly are pathetic nothings.

Custom built coax cable with connectors or pre-built?
OffRoaderX replied to WSAW350's question in Technical Discussion
If it was ME, (i have actually had similar shituations) I would (and do) just use a good quality adaptor... "Some People" will warn you that you are going to lose all your power through an adaptor, but I am able to deal with that 0.002% amount of loss. "some people" will also tell you to just do-up the cables and connectors yourself - but, many normal people dont want to hassle it, and, are willing to cope with that 0.002% loss from using an adaptor. ..Be sure to use a good-quality adaptor, not the $2 one from Amazon. -
Radios seems to attract a certain type of person, often with similar personalty defects...

Would like to know what radio you are using
OffRoaderX replied to WRYD530's topic in General Discussion
Jeep: XTL5000 w/Midland MXTA26 antenna Out of the Jeep while off-roading: XTS2500 Base: XTL5000 connected to Tram1486 Office: KG1000GPlus w/MXTA26 on a cookie sheet in the window Couch: XTS5000 Repeater: Vertex 7000 w/Tram1486 and LMR400 coax. Other than the repeater all the coax is just inexpensive black-coax. -
None of that sounds good, and the warranty is 1 year.. On a brighter note, the KG-1000G PLUS will make a great replacement!

Correction, THREE NotARubicon Youtube videos on it..

Because they know that for something as important as NOAA people will purchase the correct radios to receive them. And, what if they DO start transmitting on UHF? - then someone will want them to transit on HF, because their HF radio can't receive them.. Then someone will want them to transmit on commercial FM, becuase their car radio can't receive them. Then someone will want them to transmit on CB, because their CB radio cant receive them. Then someone will want them to transmit on 1.2Ghz because their cellphone cant receive them. The more i think about it, the dumber this question gets.
-
Probably something to do with VHF propagating better/more fars than UHF and because NOAA does not care if you bought the wrong radio. I'm sure some radio-dork will chime in with a 10-paragraph explanation saying the same thing unless i'm totally wrong, in which some radio dork will chime in with a 20-paragraph explanation saying I'm wrong.

Still a newbie. What does "3 by 5" mean?
OffRoaderX replied to WSBV579's topic in General Discussion
It means you were talking to a Sad-H.A.M. doing a poor job at disguising himself as a regular GMRS user. Next time ask him to reply using simple, plain, regular english that normal people understand. -
How DARE you sir! Have some respect! After all, he memorized a test, he has been a H.A.M. for OVER 30 years and a radio tech for over 15 years! By God, he is even R-56 certified!!! That is why he put all that in his forum-signature, because he DESERVES respect!

Geezus.... Thank you for proving that the people we make fun of actually do exist. But don't worry, because we are all VERY impressed with how smart you think you are!

As someone that has recommended a few radios to a few people in my day, i have, and still do recommend Midlands to "regular people" that just need simple vehicle to vehicle comms; ie; The Jeep Crowd. Radio Dorks and latent hams will require something with more bells and whistles, but MANY normal people are more than satisfied with the simplicity and performance of the Midland mobiles. Choose the radio with the features that are right for you, and ignore the online "experts" that look down on you for not being the same kind of socially reet-ard-ed know-it-alls that they are - it's difficult, becuase there are a lot of them right here in this forum.. Even in this thread..
