Aluminum will work, but your mag-mount wont stick to it as well as a cookie-sheet.. However the wife will probably complain less about using the foil vs the cookie-sheet. I'm sure that "some people" will leave a more detailed, 10-paragraph explanation complete with the molecular differences between steel and aluminum and the RF calculations, all just to say "it will work" ....

The offset is 462.700 +5Mhz = 467.700 - thats what you are seeing on the screen when you transmit. Because it's a GMRS radio, you dont have to worry about entering the offset because it's all automatic. The radio is working 100% as it should. If people aren't hearing you it is because you are either not in range of the repeater (just because you can hear it does not mean you cant hit/use it from your radio), you put in the wrong tone, or did something else wrong.

You wont find it in the manual because the 50V2 (at least, the one that I had) does not have a Roger Beep.

What kind of report are you trying to download, and as already asked, WHERE/HOW are you trying to download it from?

I want to see him tell us.

Oh my, that sounds serious! So what will happen if he uses an illegal radio on GMRS?

The fact that the OP, and a thousand others have to ask this question, prove that this is incorrect. It might be written down somewhere, but the fact that nobody knows and even less people abide by it shows that, in the real-world, this is incorrect. as @Sshannon said, there is no [widely-recognized] call channel IN USE - to refer to some outdated and UNUSED reference is disingenuous at best.

Just ordered a Wouxun KG-905g.(and an 805g too)

I dont think you actually understand what the term "major issue" means. Now please write a page-long explanation of why i'm wrong so more people can laugh at you. -

I stand corrected.. ONE other guy ... -

I have, or have had every GMRS radio that Wouxun makes. In some cases, multiple ones, and I have never, once, seen this issue. I also have many friends, and about 200K fans, and none, never, once, have mentioned this issue. -
I concur.. Putting together a repeater with two KG1000's is fun, but you will get better performance and can probably save some money with a "real" repeater. You can find a good, used UHF repeater for a few hundred $$, and some can double as a base-station.

85 Miles? How far away have you made contact?
OffRoaderX replied to Skunkworks's topic in General Discussion
93 miles from Palm Springs, CA to our old "Delta" repeater, using the XTL5000 in my jeep with the Midland MXTA26 antenna mounted on the rear tail-light, where all of the "experts" still proclaim that the antenna will not work because it is below the roofline and due to the poor ground plane at that mounting location. Initially started using the repeater with my radio transmitting at 40W, and when I switched to 110W nobody could hear any difference. I have heard people in their mobile radios hitting that same repeater from 40 miles further away at Chiriaco Summit for a total of 133 miles, but I cant do it - probably because my antenna wont work where it's mounted. -
Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
OffRoaderX replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
@WRXP381 is the kind of sad-H.A.M. that some Youtubers make fun of all the time. If he does not yet actually have a H.A.M. license, then he is a latent Sad H.A.M... Hopefully you get the radio back together - keep us updated. -
Which adapter fits the antenna mounting point for the Wouxun KG-Q10G??
OffRoaderX replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
I just checked, and all of my standard SMA connecters fit perfectly into my Q10G - but when I look at the picture of your antenna, it looks like you broke your radio and the SMA connector is still attached to the antenna, leaving what is probably nothing more than a useless ragged-hole (much like my ex-wife) in the radio . Compare the bottom of your antenna to the bottom of my antenna in my pic. -

OffRoaderX replied to WRNZ515's question in Technical Discussion
IF you can get the antenna off without destroying the radio, you will discover an SMA 'male' type connector. -
If they never used them why would they take all the time to mention them in the SX700, T5100, and several other user-manuals?

Many repeaters use DPL codes.. Many other repeaters use CTCSS codes, and that is exactly what the "interference Eliminator Codes" are. So the answer to your question is: NO

I would just like to point out that one need not be "a programmer" to setup a UV-5R radio. Investing a few minutes reading some online articles or watching Youtube videos is all you need to learn how to 'program' your radio. You can even do it all by hand, right on the keypad, no computer necessary. Virtually everyone here learned to do it ourselves, and we all have faith that you can too - We believe in you!
-
50W is good, especially when you have a long-run of that leaky coax, to get more juice squirting from the antenna. 50W is also good to step on the other guy that is irritating everyone but only has 20W.. all else being equal.
-
You thought wrong.

I volunteer @WRXY699

It does not really require much research - just follow this formula: IF radio is manufactured after 2017 AND IF radio says "GMRS" on the box THEN = FCC Type Accepted* *99.9998% of the time
-
1: YES - you also have to add the correct "TX" or Transmit tone .. The RX/Receive tone is optional 2: GMRS is not primarily intended to "get into conversations with others" - but if you insist, just call out and ask if anybody wants to talk to you. There is no protocol other than talking normally and using your GMRS callsign at least once every 15 minutes.

Be careful!!1 I have read that the rubicon guy is just a shill for cheap chinese radios and will say anything the manufactures tell him to say!!!1 I know it must be true because the people that say that have been licensed ham radio operators for 20+ years, it says so right in their forum signature!!1
