I use my KG-1000G+ in a Hardened Power Systems/Midland MXPW500 with a 10Ah LiFePo battery and it lasts for days, transmitting and receiving.. I usually use it on Low/Mid power, but it works fine (just not as long) at high power.

Both radios are working exactly as they are supposed to. Any GMRS repeater must have, by definition, a +5 offset. If it does not have a +5 offset then it is not a GMRS repeater and the radios will not allow you to transmit on them. And, the radios will not allow you to transmit on anything that is not a pre-set GMRS channel/frequency, which explains why you cant transmit on a 467 frequency with a +5 offset. It sounds like you bought the wrong radios for your needs..Or, you are really, really confuckulated. Edit: IIRC some of the A36 GMRS radios shipped with the wrong offset. .that is on them, but you should be able to easily change it to +5 from a 462. channel.. I was able to do that with mine, no problem. But you would be within your rights to send it back and ask for a refund as it does not work as it should, as defined by the FCCs and according to the radio's documentation.

I use mine for off-roading.. any time I want to "make contacts" and find anonymous men to talk with, I use the Grindr app.

Press the button.. WAIT.. then talk.. See if that helps.. If not, go outside or seek higher ground and try again. -
Help Connecting to Repeater (Houston, TX)
OffRoaderX replied to OscarHTX's question in Technical Discussion
When you say you "cannot transmit", does that mean you get an error, or the transmit light on the radio does not light up? Or does this mean you cant hit the repeater? If it's transmitting but not hitting the repeater, how are you testing/how do you know you're not hitting it? -
If I am going to waste my very valuable time dreaming and fantasizing, I prefer to do it over something that matters.. Like Taylor Swift washing my dishes while wearing a Minnie-Mouse costume.
-
Open usually means "open to use", so it should be fine to use. If it's not, the worst that will happen is the owner or someone that thinks they are in charge will ask/tell you to stop using it.

Yes - there is a very good repeater on Indian Hill in Indio that has good coverage all the way down at least to the south end of the Sea, havnt tried it going toward Borrego but i'm sure it covers at least to Fonts - probably does not reach down beyond that because I think the hills would block it. I dont think its listed here on MYGMRS but I know the owner is here sometimes so maybe he can share the tones with you. There is also a new repeater on Belle Mountain in Joshua Tree that *might* have some coverage down to the Sea - but I havnt tried it down there yet.
-
My suggestion is to check the listings/map here and try all the ones near you to see which ones work best for your particular, specific location.

i started fresh, using the Ham Registry address for both the FRN and the license application.
-
You need to be in Dealer Mode with the -d switch.. Try that, and if you get errors, tell us what the errors say.

None are 100% fail-safe.. If you want to 100% fail-safely hide your information from any person, agency or situation, then the only way to accomplish that is to go off-grid, not get a license of any kind, and do a whole lot more stuff. If all you want to do is prevent the average lazy radio-stalker from easily and quickly finding your home address when all they know about you is your callsign, then a PO Box or HamRegistry is plenty good enough.
-
It does, but in most cases most normal people would not notice.. It is MUCH better at filtering out noise/static/bleed-over though, which you WILL notice.
-
My suggestion is that if there are no repeaters in your area, be a pillar of the community and put one up for you and everyone to use!
-
You can use a PO box, or even cheaper, a service that hides your info.

tidradio TIDRADIO H8 problems with GMRS repeater access
OffRoaderX replied to DMRUSSELL's topic in Equipment Reviews
It's weird that you have 2 that both do the same thing. I (and thousands of other people) have this older firmware version and I even have a pre-production and a pre-pre production model and they all work fine.. Makes me wonder if your CHIRP programming fubar'd them somehow. -
I own and have used $39 SWR meters, $80 SWR meters, $500 antenna analyzers and $1,500 antenna analyzers. The 'analyzers' do much more than simple SWR meters, however they all measured virtually the same SWR on all my antennas.. For simple tuning of a GMRS antenna for your car, a $39 SWR meter is more than plenty good enough for most normal people.
-
I have gone through 2 of them and a friends also failed.. All failed within 3 years. They aren't the greatest quality and the screen is very small and difficult to read while driving. I would suggest a KG-1000G, or if you dont need all the extra fancy stuff even a Midland MXT500. But honestly, you will probably never notice any difference in farz going from 20W to 40 or 50W..
-
That is called desense, and it is normal. IIRC, a big GMRS Youtuber even made a short video about it because this is such a common cause of confuckulation for new GMRS users.
-
Good catch.. I assumed he was doing it right.. But now I'm putting my money on this... On the MXT500 you have to go in and ENABLE the repeater channels, then set the correct channel, in this case, channel 30 with the tones.

There is no setting that would cause your voice to work on simplex, but not be transmitted on a repeater assuming the radio is actually transmitting. Have you confirmed that nobody hears your voice? ie; are they saying "we hear someone keying up, but not saying anything", or are you listening yourself with another radio?
-
I disagree! The KG-805G is the MOST simple to use (quality/higher-end) GMRS radio
-
a better antenna might help, a little, assuming it is properly tuned for 467Mhz. But going outside/getting higher/clear of any obstacles between you and the repeater would help more.
-
My VXR7000 has it built in and it can be enabled/disabled in the software.

You're doing great!
