Ccleveland1226 got a reaction from DownEastNC in Comet gmrs base antenna
I've seen some good reviews online for the 10 1/2 foot comet gmrs (commercial) base antenna, I ordered one and it should be coming in by Monday. I'm replacing my current existing antenna and ordered a 239 to n adapter. Anyone have experience first hand with the comet?

My current antenna is attached to my roof on an old existing directv mount that was already on roof and grounded, I'm hoping the new comet will swap right in with the 239 to n adapter and I wont need to much else

Setup: Duracomm 14amp power supply, ed fong gmrs antenna approx 12ft high on roof mounted to vent pipe, 50 ft of rg8x. I had a midland mxt275 running through this setup already with no problems
Test: requested radio checks through the linked net, I can hear the repeater tone after rx. One of the mics is a dtmf and tones come through fine. Also tried simplex to handheld with no luck. Also tried monitoring using mygmrs.com homepage live stream web link to repeater network.
Tested: I have a tk880-1 ver2.0, a tk880-1h ver1, a kmc27, a kmc28, 3 mic cables (2 aftermarket, 1 oem) I swapped back over to the mxt275 and it still works just fine.
Will go back into programming and check everything again, I'm pretty new to all of this so I may have messed up somewhere. New mic should be arriving today from ebay to try as well.

Ccleveland1226 got a reaction from fremont in Midland present channels: Won't talk to GMRS
I have the same model handhelds so I tried to recreate the same issue on my radios last night. Mine won't play nice with each other either when using Dcs tones. I plan on messing around with them some more to see if I can figure it out, but if you find the solution let me know.

Ccleveland1226 got a reaction from gortex2 in Midland GMRS Product updates
I have a midland mxt275 in my truck, I know it isn't the greatest radio, but it works for me and the price was right. Bought it on sale direct from midland for around $130

Ccleveland1226 got a reaction from Ant1841 in Noob Questions - so many ! So excited!
1. interference is always possible, but unlikely w/ your wifi
2. Midland stuff is extremely basic & simple in operation, the baofeng will have more features, but requires more configuration/understanding to use.
3. Antenna in attic is better than none at all, but for what really helps gmrs signal is the antenna height and less obstructions to line of sight
4. You could be hearing a transmission that uses squelch code like Dcs, or you may not be transmitting strong enough to reach them, even though they can reach you
5. You're already here
