  1. We used log books in the US Navy when communticating with other ships before computers. I did SSB with my CB in Hawaii off the 17th floor and never thought to do a log. What did it matter I thoght. Same feelings today. We (at home) never logged phone comms when telephones were new. In business relations note might have been taken on a scratch pad and of course in the Navy Petty Officers all carried a pocket notebook (wheel book) and might still do. But keeping track of GMRS conversations during daily activities seems a waste of effort... to me. And with that said, I do have a list (and make one when traveling) of the Repeater Stations that I might encounter during my travels after mapping my routes, just in case.
  2. My sincere apologizes. I might have screwed uo the name to begin with. Off and on and I have finally noticed I was wrong as it is Vance 600 after now.
  3. Still have a pair of Uniden HH units with broken off antenna (protectors). The wire antennas look goofy but it all still works great.
  4. Our familys have used radios several times caravaning across USA before it was popular. Great times...
  5. In Nov this year it will be 50 years! Best decision-making in my life was to get married to a smart lady! She enjoys me as much as I do her! And we enjoy our hobbies and lifestyles together. Marriage was a lifetime agreemant we both looked forward to and have enjoyed...
  6. Yes the codes I used were simply fake to as not confuse anyone. But thank you for the explanation, I go it!
  7. With the Midland MXT-400 I have a similar question regarding the split tones. Say for example, the repeater receives a TRANSMITTED Tone (RX) on the CH 19 of 123 and then transmits the message out to the world on (TX) tone 411. It seems to me I could just set the RX tone to the input code (say channel Rp19) and do the same for the output channel 19. Of course I would only hear the output of the repeater and nothing transmitted simplex correct?
  8. Some fancy pictures you have there! How did you draw them maybe a swirl o'graph? I had a SWR meter on the CB but it was a needle and flat graft of numbers. Reminds me of the ole navagation system Loran C location mapping.....
  9. The outer rubber coating on my MXT-400 "mike wire" has recently failed also. Just as an example, my Cobra CB unit still looks brand new even after almost 15 years (and works). So, there is a failure in regard of Midland "quality failure/cheap stuff," I'll also support that claim to a degree. Yea, I'm still stuck with swapping PL Codes when necessay and as such will look into other radios IF the replacement mike fails from the "poor coating." At my age (and level of use) I really don't think I need to learn another new manufacturer programming plan. But at the time of replacement I will look innto it.
  10. It can be programmed EITHER WAY, using the app or thru the mic didplay is what I remember "The Queen" said....
  11. First, Thank you for your service. My Brother-In-Law was a CWO4 and I didn't hold it against him.... Just find a long pause in a conversation and ask your question or make a statement, as if you're in the barracks talking to ole buddies. When you're done and the conversation, be sure to ID yourself as you wrap it up. Welcome to the forum.
  12. WOW, kept staring at the Ballon and then I saw a alien babys face screaming.... then the bird shit got into my eyes!
  13. "... it is in America’s best interest for the Federal Government to designate one — and only one — official language. Establishing English as the official language will not only streamline communication but also reinforce shared national values, and create a more cohesive and efficient society. Accordingly, this order designates English as the official language of the United States." I don't think a constitutional change would be necessary, myself.
  14. And not just any radios nowadays. My Jeep (2015) in dash radio failed on me and I found it too was suffering from the same issue on at least one chip (AM). I used a heat gun to run the solder and all was good... for now!
  15. Another open repeater now is Vance 600 (467.600) with a a PL tone different than the usual tone. New location and placed at about 300 ft up it almost reaches Summerville.
