On behalf of the Administration and Moderator Staff at MyGMRS, we would like to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving.

Moving this thread to the General Discussions area. The MyGMRS section of the forum is for questions and answers concerning the technical or procedural operation of the forum. Thank you.

Use the following FCC Rules link for specific info. Scroll down to Section E and then go to sub section 95.1705 for details. https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=72b61b708f0ce25ea78b21b0aed4e95b&node=47:5.0.1.1.5&rgn=div5#se47.5.95_11705

Part 90, with good used analog equipment, is fairly inexpensive. The business administrator would have to be licensed and employees under his or her jurisdiction could use the business equipment while on the clock and working.

Scroll down to section E, 95.1767 in the link below for the new power / channel / radio type regulations - https://www.ecfr.gov/cgi-bin/text-idx?SID=72b61b708f0ce25ea78b21b0aed4e95b&node=47:5.0.1.1.5&rgn=div5

That is essentially correct. Paragraph 34, in the data supplied by the Commission in the link below, stipulates the new protocol: https://transition.fcc.gov/Daily_Releases/Daily_Business/2017/db0519/FCC-17-57A1.pdf

FCC database is slow at times. Our database syncs with theirs and as soon as the FCC database is updated, ours sees that info.

As we understand it, some very short duration data packets are allowed under certain circumstances... not full digital modulation.

We have had some inquires as to why MyGMRS was off line early August 26. The simple answer is that depending upon your location, several interstate routers were down (and some may still be down) for various reasons in California, Georgia, Kansas, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Virginia and Washington State. With only 62 percent of the North American routers operating, slow response times and packet loss was and still may be present. Note - the two internet routers in Texas are still operating as of 8:45 AM CDT, however, one or both could be affected by Hurricane Harvey flooding and infrastructure damage. At no time did the MyGMRS Moderator staff loose contact with the Forum during this slowdown.

Effective date for new FRS/GMRS rules?
PastorGary replied to jbeaston's topic in FCC Rules Discussion
Staff Note: One post has been eliminated from this thread as a potential source of angry replies. We caution "Steven S" to think before you post. We do not tolerate snarky comments or the demeaning of others, posted to invoke tension filled replies. Original question has been answered. Thread is now closed. Moderator Staff -
This thread is closed for now to allow the original poster to review details. This thread may be reopened at such time as the 'OP' returns and requests that it be reopened OR when the 'OP' joins the Forum as a licensed GMRS operator. Moderator Staff

There are many variables regarding equipment. First of all, you must have an FCC GMRS license to legally access any repeaters. In order to answer your question, our members here would have to know - . What your range expectations would be. Have you researched how far away any "Open" or "Permission Only" repeaters are to your primary operating location? Will you be talking with other family members on a repeater? (more than one radio needed). During what type of activities would you be using a repeater (Hiking, camping, bike riding, etc.) Give our members a bit more info, and they can assist you in locating the right equipment for your situation. Also, once you are licensed, you can register at our main website as a member as well as here at the Forum.

We are temporarily closing this posting area until Rich can stop in and review all of the suggestions. We have tried to get several memos to Rich, but evidently his schedule is such that he hasn't been able to log in here recently.\\\ Standing By...

Welcome to MyGMRS...

Please be patient... our database syncs with the FCC database and we have noted that theirs has not been consistent in updating promptly in recent weeks.
-
It has been the responsibility of the person entering the data in the first place to modify or eliminate data as changes are made. The owner of MyGMRS (Rich) has no way to verify info listed in the main site UNLESS the owner of each system actually keeps things up to date. Rich knows what the issues are and may be considering a change as to how things are listed. We'll wait for his feedback.

An elderly man with a GMRS radio in the car was going down the interstate when suddenly his radio crackled his call sign. Answering...he heard a fellow GMRS operator's urgent warning....."Hey, just heard on the news that there's a car going down I-95 the wrong way, please be careful"!! The elderly driver replied, "Well, now, it's not just one....... there's hundreds of them'!!!!!!!!!

The Moderator Staff at MyGMRS would like to remind new members of our statement regarding recommendations to use equipment not designed for GMRS operations: https://forums.mygmrs.com/topic/51-equipment-technical-information-and-personal-responsibility/

Does anyone know of an industry chart detailing losses in various types and styles of RF connectors? That might be a good resource to refer to - and if one can be found, the staff would be happy to pin it to the top of the Technical Discussion area. We were able to locate a chart for frequency cut off, but didn't come up with anything in a simple search about losses. Thanks... https://www.amphenolrf.com/frequency-range-chart/

Solder may not be best because there are two dis-similar metals involved and galvanic corrosion and weakening of the solder may take place compromising the junction. All you need is a bit of acid in the soil or acid rain to start that corrosion process. Ref: http://www.corrosion-doctors.org/Forms-galvanic/galvanic-corrosion.htm Use a minimum of 4 gauge copper wire from the mast or tower base to the ground rod using the type of clamps pictured in these next links. INSPECT those clamps and ground wire once per year and replace components as required due to ANY corrosion. Many masts or tower bases have a factory ground attachment location. If your mast or tower does not have a factory supplied area for grounding, make sure that you use 100 grit sandpaper to clean the area as well as the ground rod itself where the claps go. 4 gauge or larger ground wire is available at most Home Depot's in Department 27 (electrical) for roughly a dollar per foot. Please do not use spiral radiator style clamps! There is not sufficient contact area or compression torque to secure ground wires. What steps to get a GMRS repeater online?
PastorGary replied to Chris's question in Technical Discussion
This link gives a side by side comparison and seems to be fairly accurate, based upon other such sites that I have seen in the past. For temporary runs, our Chaplain Responder equipment trailer contains a 75 foot section of Belden 8267 (RG-213). Never had any issues with it on our licensed VHF frequencies or GMRS. http://www.universal-radio.com/catalog/cable/coaxperf.html
