I live near a military base, we used to listen to military aircraft between 220-400 Mhz. Nothing really exciting, mostly air traffic control stuff and an occasional 'target locked' announcement. I think they use LF as well.

if a GMRS Lic is revoked due to complaints then the FCC would also post the actual infractions along with who and why the the Lic was revoked. According to the video guy here, the FCC has only issued 4 violations on GMRS/CB radio recently. I would bet CB radio was 90% of those violations.

Last summer i discovered a couple GMRS repeaters operating in/near Fresno, Ca using digital mode that were not registered on this site. I've also heard some Gigital repeaters operating on GMRS in/near Phoenix and Salt Lake not registered as well. Some GMRS folks take their privacy serious and obviously dont want their idenity known. .

It's only annoying if you don't change the channel our turn your radio off. But im betting you purposely programed the PL Tones of those 'oversaturated repeaters' so you can eavesdrop.

A terminated GMRS license means the FCC has deemed the license invalid, and it is no longer permitted to operate GMRS. This can happen due to various reasons, including license expiration or non-compliance with FCC rules. I would bet most what you see are due to expiration.

I was gong to buy the Vic 20 but decided to use the credit card for the 64. I actually had more fun with the Commodore than the TRS80 or even the Apple..

Back in the Radio Shack Days, i don't think there was to many people concerned with Coax quality.. Most of us use it for 10-11 meter stuff and it worked great.. RG58 was the norm for auto installs. The good ole' days

i started out with a Commodore 64, then a TRS 80, then an Apple and been with Apple since 1986. Although i do have a Windows 11 machine but seldom go to it.

Not all RG8 is stiff.. Radio Shack used to sell a flex RG8.. I've used it many times and yes it is flexible. It was a pain to make connectors though, the dielectric would stick to the center conductor which had to be scraped with a plastic wedge and the shielding would mold into the outer sheath making that a pain to remove. But over all after spending an hour putting connectors on, it was decent cable

this is why I'm a fan of VNA's to get a picture of both coax and antenna on a separate scale

I've been thinking of turning access request off on mine.. My repeater is open with no tones. It's there for anyone to use as advertised. Of course, rules apply. Only had one problem early on when a local guy insisted on belching every other day on the repeater, until i actually busted him doing it as he was sitting in his mini van in a nearby grocery store parking lot. Kind of funny when you roll up on someone and you nail em .. Never had a problem since. Nuff said.

some 30 odd years ago i mounted a NMO UHF antenna in the center of a MasterCool Swamp Cooler sitting on top of a 3 story building... Worked good and the antenna is still mounted where i left it when i left that job.

Also, if you go to Makers World you find a 3D cradle file for practically every radio free for downloading. True that not everyone owns a 3D printer but as cheap as they are now days, they should.

back in early 80's a Microwave site i maintained at Bird Springs took a direct hit on the overhead power power transformer. This site was well fortified with grounding.. Six charcoal/salt canisters and a ground web tied to each one.. The hit took pretty much everything in the block building and did some pretty good damage to the power panel. I remember walking into the building, it smelled like an electronic frying pan. The grounding system served zero purpose and won't on direct hits.

i think you wold be amazed at the number of repeaters someone sets up whom actually do not operate repeaters but do it because 'they can' This site is not a formal process. Anyone can set up a repeater here, even a Cave Man can do it.... Once someone set's up a repeater here, it's the responcibgly of that individual to maintain its status, not the site owner. If that person whom set it up died, moved on, or got bored and not having fun playing around,, oh well. it is what it is.

Yup, you’ll loose your radio but you’ll save your house. The few local lightning storms here, I unhook the radio and place a dummy load on the coax.

just a little bit of Trivia, if you look at the 'Stale' Repeaters most show expired Lic as well.. I know of two 'stale' repeaters in my area, the owners died years ago and obviously have no way to remove themselves ..

i would give the AnyTone AT-D578UVIIIPRO a look at.. I gave my grandson one of these as a gift, its a great radio.. And they are unlock able
