  1. This sounds like jesting, sarcasm between friends on the surface. My take anyway.
  2. Excellent recommendation. I have my radios set up this way and completely spaced sharing this idea.
  3. Been there, done that.
  4. That makes since as D20 is also Redlands...
  5. It's listed on their repeater page as a D-Star repeater D20.
  6. This should be a unique experience for sure. My wife and I actually use technology to route ourselves on to the back roads telling the map program to avoid major highways when we want to see somthing different. No advise here but I wish you luck on your trip.
  7. I found this info here https://www.fjarskiptastofa.is/english/telecom-affairs/registration-and-licences/temporary-licences/
  8. See that’s the tone I’m getting at. Feel better? Question is rhetorical. You’d be wrong by the way. I try to help when I can and I listen a lot. “A forum is an online discussion board where people can ask questions, share their experiences, and discuss topics of mutual interest.” I pulled the definition and I believe my understanding was/is on the mark. I think the keyword is “discussion” not aggression. I’m sure you’ve heard the proverbial “you attract more bees with honey than vinegar”. I’ve got no dog in this fight. I’m not perfect and I think people should get a second chance. I don’t know about a third one though. I didn’t dig a hole, I just saw a boat quickly sinking and thought maybe I mention the stopper sitting there could be used to plug it. Sounds like you got this. If not I hope you find the answers you’re looking for. Cheers ️
  9. I know you mentioned watching some videos already but if you haven’t seen this one it’s a pretty good introduction to all things GMRS. Check out @marcspaz’s Intro to GMRS Video. edit - if you use an iPad you may want to try the HamStudy app or their web site as well.
  10. Where are you located? Are you good with the YouTubes? Lots of helpful information on there as well.
  11. What you say we try that again... Seems like you are getting off on the wrong foot and coming in hot. I don't think initially people were trying to be disparaging but perhaps you took it that way. First, thank you for your service. Second, no one cares about your degrees. Oh Yeah, Spoiler alert it's a forum not the help desk where you bought your radios so advice and opinions are going to be at the discretion of the people giving it. You wouldn't ask a stranger for directions on the street and yell at them would you? What people are trying to point out is older commercial grade equipment has a well regarded reputation for doing the job that your set up does not. Perhaps someone at your local Ham club has a set up you can buy that isn't some "shady seller". If you stick around you'll find some helpful people here, in fact there right here in this thread. Good luck.
  12. I’m aware of how the duplex off works but like you said not every radio does this so… If you can program repeaters then there is such a provision. It’s done with the offset. You can change the Tx in programming software. You can do it in chirp. Repeaters use different frequencies for TX from RX, it’s the same thing. You just have to figure out what the offset needs to be. Thus math, for each one you want to change. edit - of course my thought is if you have a ham radio why not get a ham license so you can use it as intended.
  13. You can do some math and set TX offset to a frequency that you have a license for. Not exactly great but at least if you accidentally key up you won’t be causing interference on something you have no business being on. Or don’t put things in that you’re not licensed for and remove the risk. Dare I say this won’t be an issue with a type accepted GMRS radio.
  14. Outstanding that’s pretty good for sticking on a hand railing.
  15. The KG-935G+, KG-Q10G & H have them in already and you can program NOAA in to any of the KG-UV9 D, P, G radios. I put them at the last channel spots in memory so if I want to go there I just go back from the beginning. There might be more, that’s just off the top of my head. edit- I haven’t really used the FM radio on my radios so before posting I double checked some of mine to verify it had it and one cool thing I found was if you’re listening to the FM and someone transmits on one of the channels it mutes the FM.
  16. I believe this or its sister the UV9P has been recommended more than once. It’s commendable that you continue to show him where the water is… If I could I would have given a “like”, “thank you” and the “laughing” emoji.

https://mygmrs.com/repeater/7327 It looks like it has potential for good coverage.
  18. There aren’t FRS only channels. GMRS and FRS share channels. Who are we kidding though? You don’t really care what rules apply.
  19. I thought so also but as I am and it did the same thing
  20. So it does. Does not appear to be just you. I have never used this before but my results are the same.
  21. I noticed the same thing with this thread. Almost like the site posted it twice or had a huge lag in the first posting that came after the second post. The Sunday post wasn’t there before the Monday post.
  22. Redundant/duplicate thread. Asked and answered over here.
  23. Just make sure you stand on one foot and hold the radio in your left hand. Left hand!
  24. It’s as @Sshannon said, just make sure you are picking the actual tone/Hz and not a number designated by the manufacturer because some have more tones than others and numbers may not be the same. I have not had any issues with my Wouxun radios and tones or any other radio I have for that matter.
  25. I was also thinking maybe heat might help separate the pieces from the glue. Maybe acetone (nail polish remover). No hard science advice here, just ideas. I would certainly try to repair if possible and wish you luck with it. Disregard negative comments. This is absolutely the place to bring stuff like this.
