    MIDLAND G-11c2

Yep we all know the rules as they are now. This thing ain’t new. It’s off eBay. It looks to have a removable antenna but as I said not likely going to find an improvement out there. According to this Two Way Radios forum (here in the U.S.) it does not have the middle FRS channels. I’m no expert on this thing nor do I care to be one. Just trying to give accurate info on what he has without assuming it’s what it looks like to all of us. Please let us know if the antenna was in fact removable. https://www.twowayradioforum.com/t/need-replacement-g-11/6058
  2. Or you could get it right here at MyGmrs.com. Affiliate link below ? https://shop.mygmrs.com/products/btech-gmrs-50v2-50w-gmrs-radio

    MIDLAND G-11c2

I’m not so sure that’s correct. While this looks like a typical FRS bubble pack this is an older GMRS 15 channels radio and I found some info indicating that the antenna was removable. I found this https://www.midlandeurope.com/en_150/products/short-antenna-for-portable-radios It does look like some proprietary Midland thing though and I’m not sure you’ll have luck replacing it with anything better. Good luck.
  4. Something else to consider for your list is a way to ID your repeater if you are going to make available for people outside of your immediate family. Something like a ID-O-Matic…
  5. Have you tried logging in? You have to log in separately for the forum and the repeater page.
  6. LSD near Lakeside and SD-TAC near San Diego look like they may be in reach for you. Give them a shot.
  7. Thanks. I don’t have that one plugged in yet. I’ll add it to my list of “frequencies to monitor”. I keep a short list of things to see if I can receive.
  8. It sounds like we are programming some of the same areas. Though I don’t have my ham license (I may jump in a some point but that just means more radios…?), I do monitor central coast Ham frequencies occasionally but have GMRS mostly programmed. I also have the Auberry repeater you mentioned in for when we head up to the mountains.
  9. Welcome @Tomdubya . There’s a good group of helpful knowledgeable people here.
  10. Much like @wayoverthere not so many here that I can’t remember them by name. I’ll abbreviate if needed. Most of my out of area ones are by name also but ones I rarely would need are by area. I keep the local ones organized together first, a bank of repeater channels with 141.3 tones for travel second and out of area but likely to use in a third set.
  11. turn it off, if you want beeping to stop that is ?
  12. Just a thought here. A lot of cigarette lighter type plugs have fuses in the cord/plug. Unscrew the plug and check for a blown fuse in it if you are using it for your power source.
  13. just be forewarned you won't stop there. I think @Sshannon said something like "how many radios is enough"? The answer, Just a few more... ?
  14. Baofeng GT-3WP Ham and the Baofeng UV-9GGMRS are exactly the same radio. you'll get the program cable with the UV-9G that works for both and if you are so inclined the GT-3WP can be unlocked.
  15. I totally get that and I thought your question and post was a good one. I hope it didn't seem like I was pushing back on it. Thus my comment on the repeater owners strick enforcement rule (he stated he would "fart in the general direction" of people not adhereing to the rules. ?). A lighthearted non threatening approach. As long as people are being respectful and polite I'm okay with our Canadian neighbors on the airwaves.
  16. I don’t think I would know if they didn’t tell me. I don’t make a habit of verifying people’s call signs. I’m also not working for the FCC. Unless I am personally aware of some truly nefarious activity l don’t care if other people jaywalk. That said I’m sure there’s more that I’m not thinking about here and am interested in what others think. Also this repeater owner has a pretty strong penalty for not adhering to the rules. ?
  17. Piratical Canadian in the wild ?
  18. https://www.radioreference.com/db/browse/ctid/270 http://www.interceptradio.com/fcc_county.php?sstate=TX&scounty=Nueces Here is a couple reference sources to get started with.
  19. In Chirp setting duplex to off for a frequency will prevent you from being able to tx in that frequency. At least it does on my unlocked radio. That’s what he is attempting to do. For some reason it isn’t working though. He’s trying to lock out selected frequencies not enable them.
  20. Yes but that’s what he would get to talk to his wife, if he wanted to talk to her. ?
  21. I can understand that. I thought of doing that myself but my want list keeps growing. ?
  22. Sounds like it’s time to buy a GMRS radio maybe. Then no worries.
  23. I understand what you are trying for and it seems like you have done things correctly. Wish I had the answer. Good luck.
  24. Yeah I know. I could have worded that better.
