Cooperative use of GMRS stations. GMRS licensees may share the use of their stations with other persons eligible in the GMRS, subject to the conditions and limitations in this paragraph. (1) The GMRS station to be shared must be individually owned by the licensee, jointly owned by the participants and the licensee, leased individually by the licensee, or leased jointly by the participants and the licensee. (2) The licensee must maintain access to and control over all stations authorized under its license. (3) A station may be shared only: (i) Without charge; (ii) On a non-profit basis, with contributions to capital and operating expenses including the cost of mobile stations and paging receivers prorated equitably among all participants; or (iii) On a reciprocal basis, i.e., use of one licensee's stations for the use of another licensee's stations without charge for either capital or operating expenses. (4) All sharing arrangements must be conducted in accordance with a written agreement to be kept as part of the station records. I posted this in another thread here (a thread that must have gone sideways because it’s gone now?) but technically the FCC says you can’t charge fees for repeater use. Contributions yes. As for the question of using a repeater without permission. It’s equipment that belongs to another. Get permission.

The black one, get the black one. No the one on the left… ? but seriously they are two completely different animals. Sure they’re both radios but it’s like saying should I get a Jeep or a motorcycle. I don’t know, what do you want to do? But as you have a license for one maybe that will inform your decision. You will need to figure out what it is you want to do with the radio. Or get both ?

I didn't want to assume but I thought maybe she might. This guy made a video... No it's not that guy ? Yaesu FT-60 vs Wouxun KG-S88G | The Blind Radio Taste Test good luck with whatever you decide.

To the best of my knowledge Yaesu and Elecraft don't make a part 95 approved radio (I'm not telling). Here is a little more on wide vs narrow though it's pretty much as @wayoverthere and @KAF6045 have explained. https://www.ailunce.comhttp//www.ailunce.com/blog/what-is-the-difference-between-narrowband-and-wideband-on-gmrs-radios
-
My recollection on the Midlands is the MXT115 isn't wide band but the MXT400 is so I would go for the 400 over the 115. Someone who has these radios could tell you more.

I do have a recommendation though it’s over your $100 dollar budget ($139.99). The Wouxun KG-S88G is a super Het radio, UHF only, IP67 water proof. It’s pricey for its features but really good quality, good sound, solid, small and simple. I chose this as one of my HT radios because I wanted a radio that I could hand the wife that worked and wasn’t laden with a lot of bells and whistles that would intimidate her. I have other radios and other favorites for different things but for simple GMRS coms I reach for the KG-S88G. I may need to get another one. Hope this helps. Geez that souded like a commercial... I don't always drink beer but when I do... ?

I agree with that. My first radios were Baofengs and I got them dialed in pretty nice. I now have some Wouxun radios and yes they are better out of the box. I do feel everything is easier in some part from the understanding I gained working my way through the cheaper radios. It can help you decide what you want from a more expensive radio and it's nice to have the cheap ones around, less worry if you think you might be engaging in activities that might damage a radio. Of course I find it rewarding to fight my way through the cheaper radio so yeah I'm broken that way. ?

Eight channels/frequencies for repeaters.

Connecting to Multiple Repeaters In My Area
WRUU653 replied to WRWH433's question in Technical Discussion
Almost, Think of your radios set TX tone as a key to open the repeaters RX tone (the lock if you will) if the repeater doesn’t have a tone set then it’s already open to the frequency regardless and with no RX set on your radio you are open to all that is on that frequency. So leave the RX tone off on your radio. -

I agree with what you are saying here but... and maybe I misunderstood but I thought he was saying he wanted to program both in his radio (just the same channel/frequency with different settings) so depending on where he was and which one was in range he could have both programed to use. -

Yes. Also if you leave the RX tones off on your setting for the one with tones you'll hear both as well as any simplex. -
Nope. Don't think you'll find it either. Baofengs are going to be your best bet for such a thing.

So as far as limiting the KG-1000 Plus they didn't? Sounds like they removed things that we're not applicable to GMRS. Not trying to argue either but as someone who is considering the purchase of the 1000 Plus if there was something limited that is something I would be interested in but I'm not seeing it. From what I see so far it's been improved as has my KG-935G Plus.
-
Welcome, Stan. Lucky call sign you ended up with, it rolls nicely ?
-
I’m not saying you’re wrong because I don’t have them both to compare but can you give me an example of how the 1000G plus is more limited? I’m curious because I recently received the KG-935G plus and noticed I can change channels 8-14 from low to high and narrow to wide which I discovered by accident. I’m not saying you should in fact my understanding is besides the regulations there is few reasons you shouldn’t but my point is it seems less limited though likely an over site in the new programming. Okay follow up to my claim that you can change those settings after testing the radio. It's true I can change those settings but when you operate the radio (press PTT) the radio still works within the specified confines that it should. Still would like to know what's more restricted about plus models though.

Cross Boarder, USA/Canada, GMRS Communications
WRUU653 replied to Lscott's topic in General Discussion
Nice catch. I guess it's another difference between Ham and GMRS. Section 97.111 of the Commission's Rules, 47 C.F.R. §97.111, authorizes an amateur station licensed by the FCC to exchange messages with amateur stations located in other countries, except with those in any country whose administration has given notice that it objects to such radio communications. Currently, there are no banned countries. 47 C.F.R. §97.111, authorizes an amateur station licensed by the FCC to exchange messages with amateur stations located in other countries, except with those in any country whose administration has given notice that it objects to such radio communications. Are you talking about what comes loaded on the radio? If so they openly share those on the bettersaferadio.com site.
-
At least... I just received two and I still want one two more ?
-
Outstanding! I love the support team there with you too.

You’re welcome, I think the KG-UV9G pro also. I have a couple Wouxun radios. They are quality compared to the Baofeng radios but then I like them too. All tools with a purpose. ?
