  1. Yeah that won’t be a problem. I’m not finding that as a tone 7 on anything but Midland. Wouxun caller somewhere close by keys radio. Help help… some guy, we’ll call him Bob is monitoring channel with tones Hi Bob hear any calls today? Nope. All quiet.
  2. I would add if you are anything like me the screw is in the carpet or bounced under some piece of furniture already ?
  3. Alright the name of this thread is Welcome… How about everyone try and remember that and be a bit more welcoming. Is it so hard? Read your own post before you are so quick to send it. Read the one you are responding to. WTF (welcome to forum)?
  4. It uses the same screw (they should have sent an extra) as the cover does. They did this to maintain the waterproof IP67 rating.
  5. For the life of me I can not think why anyone would use a privacy tone for an emergency. I would think in an actual emergency you wouldn’t want to restrict hearing anything.
  6. This little blurb from Bettersaferadio.com web page for the KG-UV9GX
  7. I gave this a try and Mobile 675 showed up on the map and Spanish Fort 700 was on the second page of repeaters listed. ?
  8. It’s my own fault @Sshannon that I started looking at those. All kidding aside I covet much of their products. The idea that these are super visible in bright sunshine I found enticing. The idea that I would want two may keep my wallet safe. Thanks for the additional info.
  9. Damn it Steve, You are not making it easy to not spend more money ?
  10. I agree, if it’s using the “travel tone” you are likely okay to use. I would go ahead and ask someone who is on it about it. I did this once and was able to talk with the owner who told me about his repeater and now chat with him occasionally.
  11. Okay I see what you were saying now. I misunderstood that you were mounted to a plastic roof, though I don't know how you would be reaching that far that way. Sorry for my confusion. I honestly don’t know if you would get better than what you got going already. I’ll leave that to those with more experience with antennas, ground planes and side by sides in this situation to add their two cents but it seems you are doing pretty good with it right now.
  12. Hey @WRWI380 it is great to hear you have made some quick progress. A ground plane would certainly help. I am not sure what you would need to do to achieve that in your particular vehicle but I’m sure the info is out there. Perhaps a wire going from the mount to chassis or if you could mount directly to the roll cage. They do have antennas that don’t require a ground plane but from what I can gather you are better off if you can get a ground plane. I’m just throwing stuff out there without knowing what the situation actually is for the side by side. You must be doing something right to reach it from where you are so you are on the right track. Anyway very cool and thanks for letting us know about the success. ?
  13. I think you’re fine, it’s anybody’s guess what all that was about. Some people ?
  14. Sorry @WRUT935 I'm no help here. I checked Chirp and don't see the KG-XS20G ?
  15. What do you use to program your radios? If you are using Chirp it an easy copy and paste and I use it all the time.
  16. I don’t have an aversion to diving into the actual regs but this is very clear, basic and well laid out and I feel this would be great to hand to someone with no knowledge of the service as well as great reference material. Nice job and thanks for the download.
  17. @davidotoole I don't know about working with android but have you seen the Garmin Rino 750 ? It's Gmrs, GPS and camera all rolled into one. Not cheap though. and I am not sure if it does repeaters. At any rate they have a lot of GPS devices, maybe you'll find something ideal there.
  18. There is a good chance you were hearing Capilla Peak 600. It’s higher ground than you so you may very well reach it. It appears to be open. Go to the map page https://mygmrs.com/map , you will need to join and sign in as this is a separate site from the forums. Then select your area. Once signed in you can access information. Click on a repeater on the map and you will find info about that repeater and if you need permission to obtain the tones to access the repeater or not. The gear in the upper left corner of the map will allow you to select to see stale and off line repeaters as well. If you decide to save some repeaters on the site be sure to save to favorites, NOT “myrepeaters” as that would be saying you own them. Do some research here about adding tones to your radio and read up on it in your radio’s manual to get a bit of understanding and then ask some questions here and you’ll get answers but basically think of tones as keys. The TX tone on your radio will open the receive on the repeater. The RX keeps out anything but the transmission from the repeater (this is optional and if you leave RX off you will hear everything on that channel). If I over explained anything I mean no disrespect. Not knowing your level of understanding. Good luck.
  19. In the last three weeks alone there have been at least three people who have added repeaters as theirs that aren’t their repeaters such as this here And this one you didn’t mention if you tried to switch it over to you. Nice pictures, they don’t change the issue at hand though.
  20. It’s not just repeaters, by leaving the rx tones off you will hear everything on that frequency including simplex which can be useful to make sure you’re not stepping on someone else when you key up.
  21. Well that felt odd, I reported myself ?! I mean I must be stopped, oh wait that’s not why I did it. Here’s hoping that it helps. ?
  22. I was not aware of that, I will now. Thanks @Sshannon.
  23. I believe everything gets posted the same only under new ownership which of course it isn’t. One poster here recently realized his mistake when people started sending him requests for access. Since it’s on the map site and not the forum there doesn’t seem to be a way to let the person know they did this other than using the request form. I looked and he doesn’t appear to be on the forum site yet. At least here you could send a message. It looks like his page is claiming eight repeaters in Indiana. A monumental feat for having a license for two weeks ?. Rich ( @rdunajewski ) has to be seeing that this is a problem by now I would think.
  24. It is getting ridiculous how often this happens.
  25. I really liked the 771G but for this reason I swapped it out for the 701G and have been very happy with the 701G. So much so that I now have four of them. It isn’t quite as good as the 771 but pretty darn close and close enough was good enough for me to not be smacking the computer screen every time I took it into my office or putting an eye out. I really found the 771 to be a pain to hike with too. I keep the 771 handy if I need it but it’s 701G for me.
