You can do it either way. First select channel you want to edit, then select menu, then scroll to TX-CTCSS (or RX-CTCSS, TX-DCS, RX-DCS depending on what you want to change) hit select and scroll to desired tone, select menu again and then exit.

I agree with most of your post with this exception, 8-14 would not be permitted on a mobile regardless of wattage or antenna gain. “467 MHz interstitial channels. Only hand-held portable units may transmit on these 7 channels. The channel center frequencies are: 467.5625, 467.5875, 467.6125, 467.6375, 467.6625, 467.6875, and 467.7125 MHz.”

No issues here, I can see it fine.

You miss read that… Shaw Butte and the Mesa 725 repeater are on the same channel.
-
Whew… I’m glad to see that, I was afraid it was “quit f*#@ing typing” ?
-
I agree with both @gortex2 and @Sshannon, this is absolutely at the discretion of the repeater owner and you may want to take a look at ham as nets seem plenty and common place. At least they are around me.

I have heard people recommend standing on one’s roof to check for signal strength and see if increasing your antenna height may help. Depending on the pitch of your roof this could be helpful or precarious or both. You may want to give it a try to see if it helps. Glad to see the mystery resolved. ?

Anything that has to do with anything other than FRS channels is on topic because the topic is “avoiding FRS channels”. That’s just how I interpreted it anyway ?
-
Yeah it really is something to see. As an electrician I was called to a home once where the lightning hit a tree on top of the mountain next to the home, it split the tree in half, just exploded it and blew all the sprinkler pipes out of the ground. Quite a sight.

@Arveetek I would add some credence to @Sshannon’s thoughts about POSY. It matches the frequency you say you are hearing, it’s part of the linked network I posted above and it’s in the area of the state you mention. As @Sshannon mentioned, knowing where exactly you are would help in the diagnosis of what repeater but remember hight is king for distance. You can see the probability of line of site with this tool https://www.scadacore.com/tools/rf-path/rf-line-of-sight/

That certainly fits the bill and it's part of their linked repeater network. ?
-
It looks like @jsneezy is correct about it likely being a linked repeater, here is the groups web page https://arkradio.net/linking/

So I told my wife about your comment "after all it's on sale" and she says (jokingly of course) "you're not allowed to play with Sshannon anymore.? I also saw that. Linkable like the Wouxun KG-1000 for repeater use. They even make it easy for you with this set up also on sale. After seeing some peoples issues with the two radio repeater set ups I remain skeptical of how well this set up will work. I bet they meant to say 5 watt rather than 50. No one uses an editor anymore.

I seem to recall it taking two weeks for me. The FCC was having issues with their data uploads even though I had my license they had stalled out putting it in the data bank that this site uses for updating it's info. be patient, they'll get there. You can check here to see if it's been added Daily & Weekly Transaction Files | Federal Communications Commission.webloc

So I downloaded the manual from Retevis Solutions and it has an only partially in english manual but it’s from a Recent RS-900 which from what I can gather is a 60 watt Ham version. Though I haven't found much on it and I haven't found an FCC number. It sure looks the same so my guess it’s factory reprogramed for GMRS… I'm still searching for more info. I am intrigued. I'm tempted to get one just to know but that would be silly right? Right??

How GMRS might better help travelers.
WRUU653 replied to JimInHelotes's topic in National and Regional GMRS Nets
You guys are taking me back. I had one of these whips on my CJ back in the day. It doesn’t even fit in frame here. Jeez I’m old.?(40 years ago) -
That’s because that’s a GMRS radio. The question was about FRS radios. Extra channels are repeater channels.? Just a guess.
-
That's a good question. When it comes to the GMRS radios I think @Sshannon is correct and he may be correct for FRS as well, with a few exceptions I think the tones are left off but it seems to me I have heard of some FRS bubble pack radios coming with tones preset though I can't confirm this myself.
-
I think the generally accepted practice for open repeaters is to use what has become known as the travel tones aka 141.3 and temporary repeaters are just that. Used while the group is out and gone when they go. I wouldn’t think promoting it would be all that necessary. Of course if it’s your repeater you can do as you wish. I don’t really see a need for it though. Of course if it’s not yours than that would be a hard no.

I think you need to be a premium member to use the classifieds

It is just a guess, it's not hurting anyone regardless and if it needs attention I'm sure Rich will handle it. Remember this is a one man operation and still the best game in town for GMRS repeater info. It is pleasant there isn't it.? ??️??
