I have only seen that specific issue when you try to program something you can’t. For instance if I grab some channels programed in a ham radio and move them to the GMRS radio in Chirp it will sometimes say some settings need to be changed or it will default to a non TX setting, something like that. Which is fine those are things I’m just putting it in for scanning anyway. You can’t do what you aren’t supposed to. There do seem to be some things Chirp doesn’t seem to do. For instance if I add a new channel via Chirp it automatically gets added as a “channel favorite” which is annoying because I have to go in and manually turn each added channel off in channel favorite settings on the radio. I tend to only go in and program things once and a while and when I do I will sometimes shift entire blocks of things around and then I’ll have to go in and change those all one at a time. For the most part though I am really pleased with how much easier front programming is compared to how my Baofeng UV-9G is. I really like the KG-935G Plus. Adding or changing things like tones on the fly or choosing a GMRS channel to skip in scanning because there’s noise on it just seems easier to me. The best advice I have for programming in Chirp (any radio software programming really) is to first save two copies downloaded from the radio, make all your changes in one while saving the first for backup.

Well I may be chiming in a bit late but like @WRHS218 I have also picked up railroad traffic with my KG-935G Plus. Frequencies here are in the 160.’s

That was my thoughts, baited at that.

The link worked for me as did one from the email. However I have noticed sometimes when I open the map page lately that the page remains with advertisements and blank but when I refresh the page then the map page loads. I suspect @Sshannon is correct and it may be security settings related.

Yeah, that is why BTech GMRS Pro has their antenna glued on. Other than the bubble pack radios most are removable not an abundance of digital data GMRS radios out there. I think some of the Garmin radios fall in that category and have fixed antennas.

I do not but you may want to throw the KG-UV9PX in the mix as I believe it’s an enhanced KG- UV9D. It’s one I’m considering anyway should I ever find time to get my ham license. Regardless I’ll be equally interested in the responses you get.

Sure I agree with higher is always better but the “if” I was referring to is if it will be enough to reach the repeater OP was hearing.

Thanks for putting that up here. I like his videos but had not seen this one. This product may be pricey but it sure is a clean install and that would be worth it to me. I have a question about the version that has two antenna mounts, is there any issue with having a ham antenna and a GMRS antenna so close to each other?

I personally am not aware of any part 95e approved radios that would allow to make this change. I think the thought is if you are following the rules and using compliant radios it’s a non issue. The concern is then at least limited to those already stepping out of the regulations. Like painting lines for a crosswalk, if you step out you probably know it. Amateur Radio is painting their own lines within guidelines they have learned and have demonstrated by passing an exam for their license. My thoughts anyway FWIW.

Well since you asked, I understand those comments and yet you made an accusatory statement anyway. What I feel would be the appropriate response when it was pointed out that your statements were incorrect is something to the extent of “sorry, I misunderstood” or something to that effect not adding a laughing face when @WRUX266 questioned your statement. This in effect is what perpetuated the side issue as I see it. Finally you felt the need to say something here yet never even attempted once answering OP’s initial question.

Thank you @WRUX266. Such a bold yet utterly false statement from @WRXE944, and then to laugh at your response. I guess he missed the punctuation. "Some people". I've made statements that were incorrect before but then I own it and admit when I'm wrong, not this guy.

Wrong. I just have those for scanning. It’s just my KG-935G Plus. You need a jump to conclusions mat.

One more thing I would add. I like having the set of repeater programs for what I call travel repeaters. Having these eight repeater channels set with 141.3 on input and output I recently discovered a new repeater being set up locally that isn’t listed yet. The owner was doing signal strength testing with another and I jumped on and was able to talk with the owner, get permission as well as add some feedback from my location.

I don’t think there is any wrong way, it’s just what works for you. If you’re like me you may change things more than once as you decide what you like. At the moment I have 1-22 standard GMRS, then the next eight I have for local repeaters, the next eight I have marked as Travel Repeaters set with 141.3 inputs and finally I have two sets of repeater frequencies with no tones for DIY to add out of area repeaters. After this I added local ham and MURS so I can set scan areas with one for just GMRS only and a second that includes GMRS, ham and MURS a scan area for civilian traffic so to speak. That’s just what I came up with but like I say whatever works for you is all that matters.

Well I looked at the manual for your radio and oddly you are correct that it doesn’t mention having this feature. What you are describing is Tone Scan, here is a description from my KG-935 plus. It works for CTCSS and DCS as well, you have to select one first and someone must be transmitting to receive the tones. 21: TONE-SCAN] CTCSS/DCS Scanning Function: Scans the incoming signal for CTCSS or DCS tones to identify or confirm the correct tone. This function must be activated while receiving a signal. Options: 1. CTCSS/2. DCS Default: None. Choose the function and press [MENU] to activate the scan. Note: The scan will stop when the signal ends and resume from where it left off the next time the signal is received, until it identifies the correct tone. Use the [UP]/[DOWN] arrow keys to scan in a different direction.
