Re: Newly Purchased ICOM FR4000

Question

Posted

I also have this repeater and by timer, i can not get it to ID to save my life. I've followed all instructions to the T and it will still only ID on TOT but not on timer. RepeaterID makes a general purpose CWID transmitter that simply hooks to the Kenwood port of an HT and the other into the ID device. from there it xmits the CWID from the HT that is progg'd to the repeater. it works 100% and i dont worry about this repeater ID'ing. I dont work for, or are affiliated with RepeaterID, just wanna help, i know the frustration.

They're using their call sign, which Doesn't ID the repeater. That's the whole point, is to id the repeater with the call sign of who it's licensed to.

I know the point, but is it necessary to set up a GMRS Repeater to CWID every 15 mins of the hour 24/7 regardless of traffic..No, it is not necessary..    To me, the owners are trying to send a message,  "this is my frequency", hence - dogs pissing on tires  🤣

I don't think you can set it on a interval timer. Kenwood's can be set that way..  Its probly better to set it for traffic only anyway

Why do you need it to I’d.  FCC doesn’t require it. None of the 20 local repeaters I have around me ID

Part 95.1751

(c) Any GMRS repeater station is not required to transmit station identification IF:

(1) It retransmits only communications from GMRS stations operating under authority of the individual license under which it operates; and,

(2) The GMRS stations whose communications are retransmitted are properly identified in accordance with this section.

Personally, i think the guy's id'ing every 15 mins on the hour is no different than a dog pissing on tires.

I don't care for any repeater doing that. We are going to use an Arcom RC-210 controller for our GMRS and 70cm repeaters. We are going to set the controller to ID every 15 minutes but ONLY when there is actually people using the repeater.

I just finished assembling the RC-210 board and am waiting on the case and real time clock. Then it will be time to program it. And we will definitely have the repeater ID since it is open to the public.

Exactly the way I'ding is suppose to be.  BTW,, the RC-210 is a nice versatile controller. I saw a  3D case on Makers World for this board.

We have been happy with the RC-210 that is currently controlling our 2m repeater. One of the two controllers will be getting a temperature sensor so we get warnings when the shed gets too hot or too cold. We found out that the Motorola Quantar repeaters do not like the heat. The current controller also monitors our battery backup system and announces when everything is running on battery backup.

You don't even know the repeater is transmitting the ID as long as you strip the pl or dcs tone from the controller, that way you don't hear it.

The Bridgecom repeaters do not transmit the CW ID using tones at all. So the only way one will hear the ID is if they have their RX tones turned off. But there is quite a bit of traffic on simplex that none of us want to hear so we all use RX tones. The Arcom RC-210 will take care of that and allow us to transmit the ID with tones enabled. Plus it allows us to do so much more than just run the ID.

An alternative option would be to build a Allstar node with a RasberryPi, then connect the node to a URIxB, and then make the db25 to db25 cable to the FR4000. Make sure to push the remote button so that the green light is lit for the remote on the front of the FR4000. The node can be programmed however you want for CWID and time. This would also allow you to change to ham frequencies and link your repeater in the future if you decide to change over to ham from GMRS.

Yep, one of the hallmarks of an unused repeater broadcasting into an empty room. Too many idiots out there ruining on others.
