I noticed that on myGMRS you can view a user’s location by lookin up their call sign. Is there a “reverse” function of this? In other words, view a list of call signs / myGMRS users in a specified area? Would be cool to be able to add some local users on this website, but also understandable if this feature would be considered a privacy concern….

Yes, the fcc license search.

I’m in Florida but my address is in NJ through Ham Registry.

It’s possible to do as mentioned, but most have a P.O. Box or,,,, etc

KF7JKO/WSCH851

That sure makes it more difficult to find GMRS users within hamregistry’s zip code, but those are the folks who don’t want to be found anyway.

Agree. Not sure why one would want to know who is around them ? I wouldnt answer if someone called me on the radio unless it was family or close friend.

Same here.

They might want to mail them all a letter asking about any interest in forming a GMRS club.

I’m new to GMRS but curiosity has me wondering what is the purpose or why would someone want to stay hidden? (I’m probably going to regret this question)

Because the vast majority of gmrs users use it as it was ment to be used family and friends. Not random strangers out in The world.   Even on repeaters most of the use is still between people who know eachother and have something specific to deal with.  Not just some random “contact”.

Really?  I actually find that odd.  If I heard someone calling out my callsign I would likely answer them.  Why not?  Get to know your neighbors and maybe make a new friend.  If they asked to stop by the house, that would be another thing.  But to just talk on the radio would be fine.

Yes, you're thinking right.  Ignore the people on here who try to limit it to what they want.  It's a licensed radio service for you to use however you want within the rules.  If I have neighbors within simplex range, I'd prefer to make contact now before before a crisis.

First off no one knows my call sign around me. I dont plaster it on my vehicles nor even tell many folks I have it. It was and is still used for my familty use. Being I live in the country I really dont see neighbors calling me. Again why would I even remotely need to answer someone. Thats not why I got GMRS 25+ years ago. If I want to chat with someone I'll go to another service. Just becasue this service is now ham lite and everyone thinks they need to rag chew on a repeater or have a SHTF need for it doenst mean we all do. If the SHTF GMRS would be the last thing I was worried about.
