WRPL862 Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago https://www.buytwowayradios.com/wouxun-kg-1000g-plus.html?___SID=U or https://baofengtech.com/product/uv-50x3/ Hoping to use one of these for a SHTF and monitoring communications. I kinda like the Wouxun KG-1000G Plus because it is a heterodyne and a little more sensitive and clearer, but there’s a difference between the broadcast frequencies of the Btech which is homodyne off a chip. I know no one ever has an opinion on these forms but I thought I would ask. LOL Quote
OffRoaderX Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago I have not used the 50x3, but I have had three 50x2's (basically the same thing).. all three failed within a year or so... Over the last 5 or 6 years I have had 5 (one for each jeep, one for the house, 2 to make into a repeater) KG-1000G's and they all still work today. WRPL862 1 Quote
WRPL862 Posted 14 hours ago Author Report Posted 14 hours ago I had a feeling at 50w the chip would not last. Thanks for the feedback back. Quote
WRPL862 Posted 13 hours ago Author Report Posted 13 hours ago I also have to figure out the mobile antenna. Since I live in the Blue Ridge mountains high gain will only benefit when I have few obstructions. I am guessing a 4-5.5 gain if I can find one to hit the G spot for the area. My BF8 hits the repeater sometimes but it gets patchy. Hoping the mobile radio and a good antenna reduces that. I have been on a hunt for a good one. Quote
WRPL862 Posted 13 hours ago Author Report Posted 13 hours ago The down side is not having TX on HAM if SHTF Quote
OffRoaderX Posted 13 hours ago Report Posted 13 hours ago Forgot to add: on all three of the 50X2 units, none of them would output more than 28Watts or so. when i contacted BTech i was told it was because I was not using a dummy-load to measure... Later, when i using a dummy load, the output was the same. Every KG-1000G i've used (plus friends units that I have tested) all output ~46-51 Watts... WRPL862 and WSEZ 1 1 Quote
