  1. Past hour
  2. Agree. Not sure why one would want to know who is around them ? I wouldnt answer if someone called me on the radio unless it was family or close friend.
  3. Channels 31 and above are receive only. It's described that way on the Amazon page, and it's the same for my UV5G. Typically for these GMRS radios YOU JUST ENTER TONES ON THE PRE-PROGRAMMED CHANNELS (1-22 simplex, 23-30 repeater).
  4. I wonder if you understand what the intended use of GMRS/FRS is? It's not social media. You come here for that. LOL! The reason the license covers your family is so families and friends can stay in touch for things like camping, hiking, off roading, use on the property, farm etc. Amateur radio (ham) is better for reaching out to strangers to make contacts if that is your interest. Sure there is some of that with GMRS but that's not really what it's for.
  5. Today
  6. Agreed. It's been on the market for what a year? Maybe there were no offers that came close to what they wanted. Sent from my SM-S901U using Tapatalk
  7. They would seem to be a reasonable suitor, but if such interest were ever expressed MFJ’s announcement would seem to imply that it is unlikely.
  8. I'm easy to find, but if someone reached out to me, I would ignore them. That might just be me.
  9. GoodMorning, New to the Hobby. I Set Frequency in VFO Mode, Set Shift-D to +, Set Offset to 5.000Mhz, Set T-DCS to Specified Tone, Delete Channel 37 Memory, Save to Channel 37 Memory, go to Channel Mode, and Test for Kerchunk. But instead of a momentary Squelch after letting go of the PTT Button, a Single Beep is heard. What am I doing wrong? Tried Repeater Channel 4(based on Frequency Chart), Tried with or without R-DCS Tone, Tried Setting same Frequency in Both A/B.
  10. Guess you’re gonna have to put up a repeater and advertise gmrs.
  11. most of this state is seriously lacking in communications wish there we had more users here!
  12. Morning, I'm in Suffolk work in Portsmouth, hope to hear y'all on the waves!
  13. That would seriously be awesome.
  14. it wont be, at least not by me. Nobody likes a spammer.
  15. Yes SSB included (forgot that) and I can't find a EE750, all out of stock the places I've searched. Can't wait for the Queens review and hopefully it will be posted here on this thread. Thanks,
  16. Top SIX? Geezus... I like the Eton Elite 750, but it is a bit pricy.. Raddy just released a new, low-cost Shortwave radio that also does SSB, which most of the CCR shortwaves don't do - I heard that the Youtube Queen of GMRS will be doing a review of it soon because he's run out of new GMRS radios to talk about.. But, thats just a rumor.. I fully realize that neither of these meet the requirements of a true shortwave-dork, but, I'm not a shortwave dork.
  17. Although I know some are hard to come by, what are your top six (6) SWRadio's (looking to buy new)? I had some as a kid and throughout the years, they all have finally failed. Thanks, WSCH851
  18. The other rumor was that DX Engineering might be interested.
  19. As much as I like the kg-uv9 I don’t like the twisty knob on the top to change channels. I bumb it all the time so I have to lock down the radio. I never hit the front buttons on any radio but the twisty knob is always getting bumped. I use my hand held radios while hiking, riding quads and riding horses and I also use a shoulder mic if I’m wearing a back pack or a jacket with a loop. And it’s for sure annoying to worry about the top knob. But bother then that the kg-uv9 is a favorite.
  20. Seriously, I do to agree. A watt or two or three really doesn't do squat insofar (ooh semi-pun?) as "Farz"
  21. all kidding aside.. Although far, FAR better in build quality, the fact is that your (and my) UHF XTS5000 radios put out the exact same power, and sometimes less power, than most CCR GMRS radios, and they have virtually the exact same fars.
  22. I have all the confidence in the world that you can make your CCRs make the trek because you have those special CCRs that were blessed by Zenu. I think I better pass on that bet.
  23. Martin Jue is 80 years old...and wants to spend what he has left of his life, enjoying his family. I'd prefer to see some outfit, like Vibroplex, buy the company and keep it going somehow. I was amazed they still did manufacturing in Mississippi....figured it was all outsourced. Best of luck to them....in 30 + years I have spent thousands with MFJ.
  24. I bet a CCR standing in the exact same spot as you and your XTS can. As a matter of fact, I guarantee that it can.
  25. Wow that is not bad for a CCR. I can do a ton better then that with my Motorola XTS5000 UHF Type 3 that has front panel programming using a Motorola 5 1/4" flex antenna and a Motorola 11 year old battery that still has about 94% capacity after a complete recharge . And on some days I can communicate from Phoenix all the way to Albuquerque with that portable. I bet your CCR can't do that. If I need to listen to NOAA I can whip out my VHF XTS1500 and as for AM-FM stations, are they still on the air? I haven't listened to a commercial-laden AM FM broadcast station well over 20 years. I have commercial-free XM in all of my vehicles and trailer, except for one vehicle. That vehicle is only equipped with a Motorola XTS1500 Type 2 UHF Two-Way Radio that is connected to a Phantom antenna.
