Retevis 40 watt repeater
WRWH734 and 3 others reacted to OffRoaderX for a question
I heard a rumor that a GMRS YouTuber will be making a video in the next few weeks showing how "compatible" the Retevis 40W amp is with the RT97 repeater.4 points -
They've been introducing bills like this for many years. They never pass. Better to just not live in a HOA neighborhood.4 points

MULTI USE RADIO SERVICE Mobile Radio
pcradio and one other reacted to Radioguy7268 for a topic
I don't disagree with your overall point, but that part made me laugh. The FCC makes mistakes all the time, and then repeats many of their mistakes. I'm not really in favor of dual band, dual certification type radios for GMRS - but I will say that having a $35 "license" with no testing required (other than testing your ability to pay $35) doesn't really create anything except a revenue stream. There's not even a short little quiz to prove that you understand a thing about the rules before you pay your $35. I won't even get into the whole "licensed relative" thing.2 points -

MULTI USE RADIO SERVICE Mobile Radio
Radioguy7268 and one other reacted to wrci350 for a topic
You cannot combine GMRS or MURS with any other service and have the radio be type-accepted. Good or bad as they might be otherwise, Wouxun seem to care about selling radios that are type-accepted under part 95E or 95J. As far as split-tones, I'm sure the KG1000M shares most of it's firmware with the KG1000G, which is probably why. In theory you could use split tones for simplex communication as long as there are only two radios in use. Things would get confusing if there were three or more radios involved. You *could* set things up with a base using one transmit tone and HTs with a second and the reverse for receive, then all the HTs could hear the base, and the base could hear all of the HTs, but the HTs could not hear each other.2 points -

Power Supply for Wouxun KG-XS20G Plus
MichaelLAX reacted to CentralFloridaGMRS for a question
Thanks. I was worried about it not putting enough power. Can't find your model. Also when I ran the meter on this it showed transmit output to be about 24 watts on Channel 16. Any advantage to running it via Cigarette ports in home and in car over wiring it?1 point -

Three questions about the Wouxun 935G
WRVE426 reacted to OffRoaderX for a topic
1) On the repeater channel - Tune to that channel then go into the CTCS/DCS RX and TX setting - it will save the tones to the channel you're on - OR do it in the software (much easier that way) 2) IIRC, you can only do this in the software - IF you can do it at all. Some radios let you change it, others dont (I play with too many different radios to remember which ones do/dont allow it) 3) See what @wrci350already posted1 point -
This is a serious political football that can cost votes. People outside of Ham Radio typically don't want to see antenna towers and big HF antenna's all over the place. And people that support ham's installing towers don't get votes from those that feel it's an issue to have their view blocked. Now I don't see commercials of huge towers dropped in the middle of some mountain view blocking the vistas with aluminum. But it's a possibility. This is something that has gone on for years. And the truth is the living in an HOA community is a poor choice if you have any interest in privacy, property rights, or being involved with radio communications as a hobby. And before anyone pipes up and starts talking about cost, HOA communities are NOT the other side of the tracks shit holes with low property values. And the HOA is the reason for that. HOA communities are expensive between the cost of property and HOA fee's, fines and taxes due to property values, you could EASILY buy a bigger piece of land with zero restrictions in a rural area. YOU choose where you live, and if you live in an HOA community, you have to follow the regulations that go along with that property. I personally would never consider being in an HOA. And if one came around me, I would make sure to piss them off as much as possible as there is NO WAY they can force an existing owner to sign on with an HOA. So I would get a copy of their regulations and do EVERYTHING to create complaints and then hang a rope in a tree for them to go piss up when they came around complaining. But there are those that DO want to live that way. And within reason, they have that right. I am really hoping that we don't go down the path here that I have seen elsewhere on the ham radio forums where there are discussions of how to hide this or do you think I can get away with that. And if you live in an HOA community and are getting into radio, sell the place and MOVE. The minute that the HOA gets forced into allowing towers and antenna's and can't deny it any more, they WILL look at every other thing you are doing and fine the crap out of you until you either relent and take the tower down or are forced to move out. And HOA's CAN seize property in some states. They do it all the time. So read your agreements and see what it is you are doing down to the smallest detail and be assured they will be crawled up your back side enforcing their crap on you. We are back to property values in HOA communities are usually pretty good, so make that nonsense someone else's problem and buy a small farm or ranch house with an outbuilding and use the extra money to buy a comfortable car to drive to work in and a nice tower to further your radio hobby endeavors.1 point

It would just be a repeat of the same mistake they made allowing combo GMRS/FRS radios to be sold. Almost nobody read the paperwork stating a license was required to use, at the time, the exclusive GMRS frequencies. Doing as suggested, combining a licensed and unlicensed service in one radio, will just invite the same problem. People will read the no license required part for MURS and then promptly use the GMRS half of the radio without a license too. The FCC isn't going to make that mistake again.1 point

Nothing model specific for mine anymore, so I'm using this one with a Midland nmo cable, a rubber spacer, and a comet sbb-5 https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004Z8RT3O Valley enterprises mounts are well regarded, afaik, and available for the common trucks (big 3, and Toyota, primarily)1 point -
