    Is he for real?

It's better to let those who know you defend/brag for you. That way you don't look egotistical. I should really follow his example... but sometimes I can't control myself. LoL

    Is he for real?

This OP reads like the rantings of someone who got a pinned comment on one of his videos.

    Is he for real?

I have as well. He gives information without prejudice, and without being condescending, and does it in a fun way. HIs advice is practical and not elitist.

    What are pl/dpl?

Thanks for the post here. This helped me solve my problem equating DPL to DCS code and plugging it in my radio. I’m up and running now thanks

  5. In that case I will recommend using the Comet 2x4SR antenna if you have the clearance for a 38-40 inch tall antenna. I have not found any dual band antennas that are 20 inches or less that will work on 2m/70cm and GMRS.

    Is he for real?

From the perspective of an amateur radio operator... operator... I love Randy's videos. I even have a paid subscription with him to help contribute in some small way to the equipment testing and content creation. Truth is, his content is funny as hell and very helpful to many, including me. I love that he doesn't take crap from anyone and his socio-political humor is great. I have had the pleasure of having some private chat messages / emails between him and I also... and learned pretty quickly that he is a great guy. People seem to lose track of the point that there is an entertainment persona and then how he is in his day-to-day life. Like my wife reminds me when I start griping about inaccuracies in movies and TV shows... 'It's for entertainment. Just let it go.' LOL

Thank you. The antenna is far away from the house. Oh and is grounded with a grounding rod.

Well, the ratings look pretty good, the complaints say the hardware is junk but it looks like folks on Amazon are getting good SWR readings, so I wouldn't worry too much about it as long as your received signals are good and people can hear you. You can get yourself a relatively cheap Surecom SWR meter like this one for about $60 if you want to be more confident in the SWR. Lots of people here use it with good results. https://www.amazon.com/Surecom-125-525Mhz-Digital-Antenna-connector/dp/B01MUZISB8/ref=asc_df_B01MUZISB8/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=693308325721&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=9330456624222961711&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9031587&hvtargid=pla-566905769976&psc=1&mcid=9a5732268fb53f9ab49d41ad31efb7cb&gad_source=1

    Is he for real?

Yep, Rickles was known to be a very nice guy. A friend of mine, another comic, used to hang out at a club in New York when she was little. Her dad was a musician and played in the city. She would go with him and got permission to watch the comics. One night the doorman told her she couldn't come in anymore, and he was a little harsh because someone was watching him, and he wasn't supposed to let her in. She went outside and cried. She told me an old man came bay to go into the club, and knelt down and asked her what was wrong. She told him and the man told her he would take care of it. The man talked to the doorman, and told him she was coming in with him, and he had the doorman promise to let her in to watch whenever she wanted. She had no idea who he was at that age, but it was Don Rickles. She is now a professional comic, and that moment was very special to her, and had a real influence on her career.

  15. Some dual band antennas will work fine for GMRS and some will not. The Comet GP3 and Comet GP9 antennas will work for GMRS.

  16. It's possible with some antennas. I have a Jetstream JTM3B antenna that works quite well on both. Other folks here have similar stories with other antennas. But there's also a lot of dual band amateur radio antennas that won't work well on GMRS. Perhaps others here will chime in with their experience with dual band amateur radio antennas like my Jetstream JTM3B that also work on GMRS.

  18. I have the Wouxun KG-Q10H quad band hand held that does 2m, 1.25m, 70cm and 6m. I have talked to guys on 6m FM with it when they were only a few miles away from me. But I have not been able to talk to anyone farther away with it. Most hand held radios are going to be FM only on 6m. 6m is called the magic band since you have to wait for conditions to be just right to talk over longer distances. You would be better off with a mobile or base radio for working 6m. 10m is effected by the solar cycle too. Again a mobile or base radio would work better.

  20. It's my understanding that there is a firmware update for the Quangsheng K5 that allows HF and even CW. It's an interesting radio. People can write their own firmware for it.

  21. Well, they don’t manufacture handhelds in the U.S., so there’s that. Yaesu made the VX-7, which does 6 meters, 2 meters, 220 MHz, and 70 cm. They’re still around and very durable. Some of the CB radios can be unlocked for 10 meters. One mobile I read about yesterday simply has a jumper to choose 10 or 11 meters. It’s very possible that company makes a similar handheld. It might have been Alinco.

  22. 467 MHz interstitial channels. The effective radiated power (ERP) of hand-held portable units transmitting on the 467 MHz interstitial channels must not exceed 0.5 Watt. Each GMRS transmitter type capable of transmitting on these channels must be designed such that the ERP does not exceed 0.5 Watt.

Yeah, a "Let's Bash Randy" thread isn't a good idea on a GMRS forum.

    Is he for real?

The best thing about Randy's videos is that he does his home work. Other youtubers (in all categories but especially in GMRS) seem surprised by the thing they are talking about. For them: it is NOT a review if you don't know what it is. I like his mistakes and miswords because I know he is doing it on purpose. He may do it to cover real mistakes or just because he is just so darn clever. Either way he makes GMRS topics informative AND entertaining. BTW I enjoyed his off-road videos (I may have been the only one ) before I found him in the GMRS world at the same time my Jeep group was moving to GMRS from FRS.

A sense of humor is a handy thing to have on the interwebs. As the Queen of All Things GMRS, he brings information and laughs. The people that don't get that probably have a tough time going through day to day life.

    Is he for real?

Anyone who watches him on YouTube should get that he has nothing against the amateur radio service - He hangs with Josh from HRCC after all, it's the knowitalli'vebeenahamfor30yearsandyou'reanidiotanditwon'twork crowd he likes to send up with the Sad Ham moniker. And they need it! And I have been a ham for 30+ years, believe me I do NOT know it all, hihi.... And I also get that thing from my wife and son when we watch movies! The hand comes up to block the

  31. Amateur Radio and GMRS.......They are separate services, I'd like to see it stay that way......Why usurp another radio service and ruin it????? GMRS+ is a load of crap - It is the last sheet on a roll of TP, worthless. The whole idea is NO EXAMS to use GMRS. Just because "we" hams can do it, doesn't mean we should on GMRS - experimental use? Aren't our amateur bands underused as it is? Policing??? "Self Policing" simply means YOU are policing YOUR OWN operation, not anyone elses. Channel cops?, Lets get them kids using their radios illegally --- That'l teach 'em -- we can hold their parents liable. It's ridiculous Get real.

  33. Depending on local traffic, it just makes sense to buy a bunch of FRS or MURS radios and pass them out as long as you don’t need security for your communications or long range. I checked into a hotel one time and when I pulled the covers back there was a nice little Motorola radio laying on the sheets. It must have fallen out of the housekeeper’s pocket when she made up the bed. I took it to the front desk. We stayed there frequently so she knew me. She looked at me, sighed, and said “where did you find it?”
