  3. Hey, no worries. It is all good discussion for everyone and if anyone has any heartburn over it, they can always hit the backarrow or "X" out and go sign-on to Radio Reference.

  5. To be honest the H3 is superior anyway and focusing on 1 model is a smarter way to go. I was soo disappointed with my H8, power was way off and nowhere near the features of the H3.

  6. Yes the guy I sold it to is in the process of finding all of the M170 specific parts for a full restoration. The closest civilian model would be the CJ-6. The tubs are the same length. But that is the only thing that is the same. The M170 had a cutout on the passenger side for the spare tire. The other main difference was the fuel tank. The M170 has a 20 gallon tank that goes up under the tub versus the smaller tank under the driver's seat. The hardest part to find is the passenger/medic seat. It is a two piece setup. The medic can sit facing forward or backward and both pieces can be hung on the windshield frame to make room for stretchers.

    TD-H3 GRMS vs Ham

Actually, if you look at RepeaterBook and MyGMRS public listings, you will see that use of CTCSS grossly outweighs DCS.

I didn’t mean to bring all the legalities of repeater ID to this. My GMRS repeater is closed; so I’m not worried about an ID on it. I just saw all the talk about ID’ing repeaters in the threads and thought I would ask. I’ll stop being a pain and go. Thanks for the replies. 73’s from WHOR500/KG4SAU

  10. I tend to buy Pelican. But the harbor freight option looks good. I don't plan on invading a small country with it.

  11. Those M170's were cool. Everything in front of the fire wall looks typical Jeep. Body is a bit longer, can some one say, like a CJ-6. But you're right about the parts that "make it an ambulance" being hard/impossible to find. I hope who ever you passed it on to finishes the restoration.

  12. 2020 double cab short bed. I spotted them on another thread about sound deadening. You do have to remove the storage trays on the rear cab wall. But those are only held in by a few bolts. The is one on the driver's side, one in the middle and one on the passenger side. Interestingly enough on the driver's side the storage tray has a depression that is thinner than the rest of the plastic. It looks tailor made to drill out and route the wire through. I'm going to get the size and buy a rubber grommet or car plug to seal the opening. That an bit of silicone should do.

  13. The KPG-60D is for the 32-Bit computers and the KPG-49D is for the 64-Bit computers. The KPG-46P cable is for the Prolific driver and the KPG-46 cable has the FTDI chip in the cable for that driver.

  16. It is amazing what is being done with 3D printers. I do not have one yet, hopefully someday, but will have to improve my Fusion360 skills as they are lacking compared to the designs you guys have shown. Like many of you, I found the radios starting to multiply so I did create my own version of an organization/charging shelf in metal. Holds a lot of stuff, but already running out of room. Also made a simple bracket for the Kenwood TK-880H mobiles as I take them in and out of my vehicles often.

    TD-H3 GRMS vs Ham

TOTALLY wrong. Completely depends on the repeater owner and what they set. Many of our local repeaters have a dcs tone for in and a ctcss for out. Some of the others use digital only. So I wouldnt say most Maybe most of the ones you know of In your area.

Ask the owner, look in the database or on the map here, scan the tone of someone’s input transmission, or assume it’s the same as the output tone and scan that.

Hearing them talk a channel number between 15 and 22? If so, my guess, based on 1,000 other people asking the exact same question, is that you are hearing people talking on a repeater. They will not hear you until you configure your radio to transmit on the repeater. If not and you are hearing them on channels 1-14, then either they are using tones/codes so they cant hear you or, they just dont want to talk to you. Hope this helps!

    Carry Case Baofeng GMRS

For a lot of money you can highly customize a Pelican Case for your needs. But, for much cheaper you can get a similar case from Harbor Freight. Want to get really inexpensive the old surplus ammo cans are pretty cool.

Narrow FM is the FCC approved default setting for the FRS frequencies, so that's Why you'll hear it better on NFM.

  27. That’s true; the antenna still must be able to radiate at the correct frequency.
    1 point
  28. Yup, this is the way SWR works, but you still have antenna tunning. some people may think they still can stick any type of antenna on their HT's and be good to go but 'nope'. You still need an antenna tuned to the frequency's of use for optimum performance

  29. I got rid of my project JEEP a couple of years ago. It was a 1962 Willys M170 front line ambulance. It was hard to find the M170 specific parts since there was only about 4000 of them made. And those specific parts were totally different from all other Jeeps. DMR does see some use with other clubs in central Missouri but it isn't much. No one uses Fusion or D-Star around here. As I mentioned, we are removing DMR from our 70cm repeaters and will be installing Allstar nodes instead. Our plans are to keep all three 70cm repeaters linked at all times and also have the option to link all three to our 2m repeater when we want.

  33. Not really, particularly on simplex. I have, and programmed, radios for dPMR, DMR, D-Star, NXDN and P25 Phase 1. I don’t currently have a radio for System Fusion yet so I can’t speak about that mode. You want simple stick with FM, trust me on that.

  35. I can only take one person. I removed the rear seat so I can have my refrigerator and carry my recovery gear, and of course, install/bolt down the VHF and UHF XTL5000 remote radios on the floor. The attached picture is without the recovery gear. The next time I load up my recovery gear, I'll snap a picture and post it.

  36. The difference in range between the least expensive Baofeng handheld radio and the most expensive Wouxun is zero.
    1 point
  37. I suggest spending some time reading posts here. The 905g has a very good reputation, but it’s also more expensive than many others. As far as Wouxun being the best brand I think that’s fairly subjective.

  38. I’m gonna get run over and flammed but I use radios every day. All day 7days a week for 12 hrs a day. I had woxouns. They always get the worst signal reports. They are expensive and really have no better features then any one else. The big gimmick is mark from Huntington Beach califonia pre programs them with all kinds of useless frequencies that most people don’t need or want. To me woxouns are not worth the hype. Woxoun retivis radiotitty midland and rugged all belong in the dumpster. If you’re gonna spend $150 or so you can buy a kenwood or Motorola. If you want a sub $50 radio that does just as good or better there are many other options as well. Now, some cross dresser ex hand model that calls him self queen will come out of his basement to yell at me and call me names. However I’m not the one making money from gmrs radios. I just use them all the time.

  39. This just might be a great radio. Nothing comes close to the features of the H3 and if this has been improved and be made to be more consistent it can be a truly great radio. I haven't had any issues with my 3 H3 radios, but i wouldn't deny the quality/refinement could be improved for the more technical user. It also appears TidRadio listens to its customers and has done improvements and refinements even if they have fell short. But i guess we will see.....

Unfortunately, I hear more unlicensed business chatter than GMRS license holders making random contacts - would be nice to see that change considering the money I put into setting up a base station. I have been monitoring most of the day and heard a man tell a couple children NOT to use HIS business frequency. Jerrod (J-Rod) Grand Junction, Colorado WSBY849

  42. I think a more proper term would be RF Frequency Storage Location Position Allocations... If we're going to over-complicate things, we need to overcomplicate theshit out of them at least as well as the H.A.M.s Radios operators do.
    1 point
  43. I would like Mr. Queen's take on this, do we now call channels "Frequency Storage Location Radio Positions" or just "Channel" positions?

  44. If you do use one of the under body car plugs to route wiring, silicone the underside at least to seal out water and dust. If access is possible do the inside as well. If water migrates into the vehicle, rust and possibly mold will occur under the carpet.

  45. In all my years of hunting I have only worn camo a very few times. On the other hand my kids go full on camo. They figured out that either a good blind or proper stalk and spot techniques far outweighs hiding in plain sight. Both had been to Marine sniper school. So for the most part if they can see it they can shoot it in the areas we hunt. what I get a kick out of is folks who go full on camo, then put on an orange vest. Now you'll hear experts say some critters don't see color. But they sure as heck see shades of grey. And is you grew up watching black & white TV you learned to assign colors to grey scale images. Pretty sure critters can do something similar. Or at least learn that shade of grey is dangerous.

Socalgmrs a question. What brands do you own? Or did you build it yourself like Hams of old did? Pardon me, that was two questions. Maybe that is causing his lack of response.

    Glossary

Desense is short for “desensitization” which is what happens when the very sensitive receiver circuits are exposed to a very strong transmitter signal. Because a repeater must transmit at the same time as it receives the receiving circuitry is overwhelmed and deafened, just like forgetting to wear ear protection when shooting. In a professionally designed repeater the transmitter and receiver circuitry is isolated from each other to prevent desense.
