@SteveShannon I used roofing caulk on my UT-72 around the edge of the rubber pad that goes between the roof and the base. I had seen where some people had a problem with water intrusion on that antenna and I didn't want to experience the same. I already had the roofing caulk and it is UV resistant. The antenna is black and the caulk is black so it didn't look bad. So far, so good.
The way I understand the intent of this regulation is that when the licensee and his family are taking part in some sort of outing together, the licensee can hand out GMRS radios to his family members and allow them to use the radios and call sign during the event. Using the call sign of a licensee who lives in another state to rag chew locally seems to be a stretch to me.
I finally got around to watching The Fantastic 4 recently. I loved it in the beginning when the kid fired up his invention in the garage while his step-day was watching TV. It looked like it was sucking the image out the side of the TV.
Father-in-law told me that back in the day, he and his CB buddies would pull into a gas station late at night that was closed, key up (amps in use of course) and turn on the florescent lights.
Almost 500 miles. Way beyond the horizon.
Exactly. ARRL, American Radio Relay League.
Same here. Been learning Morse code. Got the letters and numbers, now to increase speed and learn abbreviations etc.
@DominoDog Thanks for point this out. People should sound off. Even if you don't care about mesh and don't fear this being used for nefarious purposes, we still need to push back. If you give an inch, they take a foot. And sooner or later there won't be much spectrum left for us.
@DominoDog I hear lots of GMRS only people using 73 and Q codes on GMRS. It may have come from telegraph and ham but lots of non-ham people like using those codes. Don't let it get to you. Just let it go in one ear and out the other. Most of the time those people don't mean any harm or offense.
Stackoverflow is a technical discussion forum. It uses a voting system just like @SteveShannon described and it is working just fine. Nothing wrong with having just one area on this site with the same voting system. And as someone pointed out, you can still sort by date/time.
@WSAW899 As you can see, GMRS can be used in an emergency but that is not what it is intended for. GMRS is intended for families and other small groups to keep in touch with each other. Camping, hiking, off-roading are just a few examples.
Well said. It's hard to tell how much it's actually being use via repeaters much less simplex. I suspect there is a lot more simplex traffic than we realize. How would the rest of us know if some family or other small group was using GMRS unless we were very close to them and on the same channel.
