Sooo I won’t be able to read the news paper check sports stats and talk on the radio all at the same time? I was a school bus driver and dispatcher for a many years. If you had any idea how dangerous that was to have professional drivers talking in the radio and driving you would want this to pass. I totally agree with not being allowed to use your radio while driving. I hope it passes. People can’t drive let alone use a radio and drive. Now if all people would drive like normal and every one would slow down and pay attention then great but with all the new generation of selfish morons behind the wheel all in a huge hurry to go no where I agree. I think cell phones should be required to go in the trunk, not even passengers. Now I also don’t think this will help stop or slow down accidents at all.

I love my boofwang uv9 except for the way the clip is and the screw on cover for the side port. But it’s water proof, I know from experience, and it seams to transmit just a little better than other cheap radios. I’ve never experienced the issues you have using a 771 antenna. 30plus miles is what I get in the open. For a cheap junker it works great.

Sometimes you just have to do things for your self. Radio takes a bit of work. I bit of research. I know we are all used to everything being handed to us but it was just 1/2 a life time ago the internet didn’t exist and this would have been 100xs harder to gather this info. Now it can be done in 10min of searching and that’s still not fast enough or easy enough for you.

Your going to get many more data buy adding to the mast. Tilting the antenna will mess up your radiated pattern. I’d just sell the tram and by a 712efc and fix all your problems but that’s just me.

Guess you’re gonna have to put up a repeater and advertise gmrs.

As much as I like the kg-uv9 I don’t like the twisty knob on the top to change channels. I bumb it all the time so I have to lock down the radio. I never hit the front buttons on any radio but the twisty knob is always getting bumped. I use my hand held radios while hiking, riding quads and riding horses and I also use a shoulder mic if I’m wearing a back pack or a jacket with a loop. And it’s for sure annoying to worry about the top knob. But bother then that the kg-uv9 is a favorite.

I actually do. I have uv5’s boofwang uv9r’s uv21’s uv17’s and kg-uv9gx’s and Motorola xts3000’s I love them all in there own way.

Ummm since you brought up the high desert of California (fort Erwin) our clubs repeater is on the mountain in crest line ca. we have many people in our club from Huntington Beach that reach it with hand helds all the time. As well I get from wrightwood area to Rosamond and even tehachapi and Barstow as well as calico on a $20 ht. So it happens all the time. You’re the same type of guy that tells me I can not talk to Las Vegas with a 20w $125 base station over 200miles away. Again 4/5w and even 8w doesn’t really matter as far as what maker of radio you have for distance. People talk to the space station with $20 uv5rs all the time. A $20 ht will for sure transmit just as far has a $500 ht. So it’s still all about features and quality. Those are personal decisions that no one can decide but the end user.

Why do the 1/2as’d “easiest” way when one could do it right from the beginning and not have to learn bad habits. This is one simple issue that as soon as it gets learned it won’t be an issue ever again.

That really depends on the Motorola doesn’t it. An xts3000 Motorola has almost no features. No face programming, no noaa, no am/fm broadcast radio, no vhf,uhf monitoring. So again it’s about what features the user wants and what budget they have. In a shtf scenario one would still need a CCr that does more than a Motorola

Not true at all. A stock antenna n most hts will do 10-20miles for me. I can do 50-60miles with a 771g. So double or more. And even further with a 48” foldable. Bigger antennas that are built right not only get up higher but have gain.

So select cross tone then 69.3 in tone tx and 103.5 in tone sqwelch rx then select tone type tone->tone I sent you a pm. As already stated the 771g or a tactical foldable. You can get them upto 48”. They look silly but do work. Also an external antenna on the house and car with an adapter to your hand held will work wonders. Gmrs is super line of site to get what ever antenna you use get it up as high as possible. The city is also hard on gmrs signals. Out in the open a 4/5watt hand held can do 30plus miles all day long but the same radio in the city will fall off at a mile or so. Height is might.

Ok so chirp you must select cross tone for tone mode. Then You have to select what type of cross tone under cross mode. Then I put your tone or dtcs tones in the proper place.

I’ve got a kg uv9 and the knob on top is super annoying. I’m always hitting it. I have to lock it down all the time. And when it’s locked it will only transmit on the main channel not top and bottom.

Most radios have a non use timer that you can program to turn off after 5,15,30,45min ect of non use. I grew up driving old cars that you had to manually turn off the lights so I’m used to checking and turning off my radio when I get out of the trucks. It’s just second nature. But if you can’t do that a pod switch system will work. Some people swear it creates noise so you may or may not have that issue.

Yup. The “best” is a loaded question. From my experience a $20 ht transmits just as far a a $500 Motorola ht. So it comes down to features and build quality. Water proof? Budget? Open or locked? Noaa? Accessories? Extended battery’s? Easy to program? Type c charging? Ect… I’ll say 90% of the time all my radios that are over $50 sit in the shelf and my $20 are the ones I use since they can get lost, broken, run over, stolen, go in the creek, get stepped on my a horse, ect… and I don’t care that much. If some thing like that happens to my wouxons or Motorolas I’m gonna be upset.

I’m not a fan of tram and if you can go higher I’d recommend a comet712efc but any height will help you out. Is you coax of good quality? How far is your run?

What antenna are you using? How many watts on the radio? Your distance seams very close. What are the surroundings. Mine is 30’ to the tip and 60miles simplex is no problem at all with a 20w radio.

But it doesn’t say anything about gmrs or uhf. It might not be gmrs certified.
