  1. The repeater has to be associated with a licensed GMRS user, so according to the FCCs, you need a GMRS license, but that is all you need.
  2. For just making sure your radio is generally transmitting about as much power as it should be, to make sure your antenna is not shorted and the SWR is "good enough", the SW-102 is perfect. Ignore all the propeller heads trying to tell you that you need to spend hundreds or thousands of $$ because they have no idea what it means to just do a quick-check on something without the need for adhering to mission-critical IEEE standards nor can they comprehend that your self-worth is not measured by how precisely-tuned your antenna is. Same thing goes for the need of a dummy-load.. You can measure the power of your radio with antenna connected to get a "good enough" power reading, if you even care about that. ..."some people" could over complicate a door-knob and they love to spend other people's money.
  3. Yes - last night I was trying to look up someone's GMRS callsign that he posted on X so I could DOX him, and I was getting that same error.
  4. My rise to the King of all that is H.A.M.s radios is not dependent on getting permission from the government or guessing 35 questions correctly. In the 21st Century greatness is measured by subscribers and views..
  5. You forgot to mention: Also transmits on GMRS with 100+Watts, jams H.A.M.s and GMRS repeaters with music when bored and broadcasts on H.A.M.s radios frequencies with no license, just so I can feel something. C'mon man, if you're going to be butthurt and whine like a girl, at least be complete and accurate about it.
  6. Fixed them for you.. That spot is fine as long as your soft-top doesn't tear it off, but heed this warning: "Some people" are going to proclaim that ghost antennas are "no good" and "dont work", or that your location is not "perfect" enough.. These people should be ignored with extreme prejudice.

    chirp

Make sure the cable you are using is plugged in to the radio and your computer BEFORE you start CHIRP. I also recommend using "CHIRP Next" which is the newer version, as it work better than the old "Chirp" program. If Chirp Next can't see the port, then you are likely experiencing a Windows Driver issue, which I am assured is a "feature" and not a bug.. If this is the case, good luck.
  8. First: NO, not necessarily - it depends if they are talking through a repeater or direct radio to radio (simplex) Second: If they are using a repeater you need the "tone" required to activate that repeater and you need to enter it into the correct repeater channel on your radio - There are 8 repeater channels - SOME radios list them as Repeater 1 through 8, other radios list them as channels 23 through 30.. So if you do the math, on your radio that would be Repeater channel 2.
  9. The basic steps are exactly the same.. Also, you have to ensure that you are close enough to the repeater to actually activate/use it - just because you can hear it does not mean it can hear you.
  10. Select the correct repeater channel which in this case would be REPEATER Channel 22 Go into the menus and find the TX DPL/DTC setting and select 365 from the list Ignore the RX/Output tone for now as it is optional and you are already confused enough That's it - should take a total of about 20 seconds. I found this random video on Youtube that explains step by step exactly what you want to do using a UV-5GPlus:
  11. Just ignore him.. Everyone knows he's reet-har-ded..
  12. That's "SIR StevenShannon" to you.
  13. Those are both mis-uses of GMRS.. If you want to meet and chat with anonymous men, try H.A.M.s radios or the Grindr app on your phone.
  14. On my new one with all the updates I get 6Watts out on Low Power - only choices are low or high power.
  15. Even I, in all my glory, could not pretend to be that socially mal-adjusted and brain dead..
  16. The ceremony is available for viewing on my OnlyFans.
  17. You're just jealous that you didnt get an award and sad because you don't have any friends.
  18. No, but you all have to refer to him as Sir Steven from hence-forth.
  19. I leave my old/big Motorola XTS5000 in its Impress charger all the time, but the engineering, components and overall quality of that old Motorola is a tad-bit better than the Midland or any of my "cheap Chinese radios"
  20. Unless the user-manual specifically says not to, I often do.. A few radios won't turn-on while charging, but most do.. HOWEVER - I would not leave them on for very long at a time and I would check them often to make sure they aren't overheating or burning the house down.
  21. SILENCE! You have no permission to speak! This prestigious award has already gone straight to your head!
  22. By the grace of mine own self-worth and sarcasm and by the bounteous authority vested in me, THE QUEEN OF ALL THAT IS GMRS, I doth hereby decree, with much pomp and stupidity, that one @SteveShannon, a stout fellow of questionable repute but unquestionable GMRS knowledge, be forthwith and forevermore dubbed a member of the Most Esteemed Order of the HERD (which, perchance, standeth for “Higher End Radio Dork,) Let it be known across the static-ee airwaves of the peasantry to the lofty frequencies of the saddest of H.A.M.s that Sir StevenShannon, clad in naught but his wits and an FCCs permission slip, hath stumbled bravely and fortuitously into the fray of tomfoolery and emerged victorious—or at least not entirely trampled. With this proclamation, he is granted the sacred right to put the title "HERD" after his name, to wield a UV-5R on GMRS channels, and to confuse all who inquire as to what a “HERD” truly be. So sayeth I, THE QUEEN OF ALL THAT IS GMRS on this fifth day of March, in the year of our Lord XENU two thousand and five-and-twenty. Let the roger-beeps blare, and may the Sad H.A.M.s tremble in his presence ! So it is written, so shall it be done. Arise good Sir @SteveShannon, member of the HERD!
  23. Yes - but the good news is, this one didn't die on my in the first 11 minutes!
  24. Please point us to where we can get one of these new 50Watt Motorola repeaters with a warranty, a built-in duplexer and pre-programmed with the all of the GMRS repeater pairs, for less than 1/3 the price We're waiting...
