  1. Welcome to the exciting and dynamic world of GMRS radios! ..I cant be sure about what you were hearing, but I think it was a repeater.
  2. I use a Tram 1486 on my repeater.. Its not very expensive, it has a very low wind-profile and it does not look like some kind of space-antenna on the roof. EDIT: .. and it is very easy to tune for GMRS.
  3. TL;DR ... I thought you blocked me? Let me know if you need help with the block-feature
  4. What makes you think it was his wife's?
  5. Impossible! I have been assured by multiple people that have "....Been a licensed H.A.M. radio operator for [insert years here] years" that these people do not exist and NO H.A.M. operators are like this, and the certain youtubers just make up these stories.
  6. I heard that one of the big GMRS youtubers is going to be reviewing this radio in the next few days.. FWIW, ones shipping now come with a programming cable and the antenna is removable - no screw, no glue..
  7. 4 X 4 = 16 ...Which coincidentally is the official GMRS and CB radio off-roading channel..
  8. I've been known to get my Jeep dirty from time to time 2006 LJ Rubicon & 2012 NotARubicon Ch16 or Ch19, open. Also scan/monitor all channels so I can rescue Toyota's in distress Mottino Wash, Marble Canyon, John Bull, Doran/Odessa (Calico), anywhere in Old Dale
  9. Does this happen on all channels, like on the NOAA channels, and even when you hear static? ie; is EVERYTHING very low volume or just when someone is transmitting on GMRS?
  10. IF only there was youtube channel out there that has done at least one video on every single one of those topics!
  11. I don't believe you.
  12. I didn't know that @marcspaz thanks!
  13. Now that you have it working correctly in your radio, download that into CHIRP and you will see how CHIRP expects to see it/how to enter it.
  14. The XS20G will last for years. I know 4 friends that have had the BTech 50W GMRS radios in their Jeeps.. 3 of them have failed in 3 years or less. I know ~10 friends with Midlands, 1 has failed 3 years or less.. I know 20+ friends that have KG1000G or XS20G radios in their Jeeps, with 0 failures. The data is anecdotal, but, i think it shows a trend.
  15. Agreed - from actual usage/experience. The XS20G is GREAT if you will be very dusty/wet environments - and it is very small which is great if dont have a lot of room. Also a few $$ less than the 1000G
  16. I have had/used every brand of GMRS radio in my Jeep(s) and almost every model of every brand, and for Part 95 "GMRS" radios, I prefer the Wouxun KG1000G. It is a better quality radio than BTech and most (maybe all) the other brands, it outputs a full 50W, and has a remote-mount removable faceplate. Several of my off-road friends use this radio and they are all happy with it. And FYI - even though its spelled Wooks-On, it's pronounced "Ocean" .

I understand the reasoning, but this is GMRS - a huge percentage of GMRS users just turn on their radio and start talking with their group - they aren't thinking about power levels or anything else, other than "can my friend hear me" ...

This is an assumption or opinion. Around here we go full-blast all the time.
  19. As an internet legal scholar and couch-based constitutional expert, you should know that complaining about it here is not going to accomplish anything other a bunch of back and forth verbal & grammatical masturbation.
  20. Congress gave the FCC the right to get involved in local wireless communications, as well as justification to exist as an agency when they passed the Communications Act of 1934. And just FYI, complaining/arguing/chest-beating about it in an online forum wont change anything - If you really want to change/eliminate the FCC start by contacting your congressman or an attorney.
  21. For making contacts and talking anonymously with strangers, you should also look into the Grindr app for your phone.
  22. PL, CTC, CTCSS, are all the same. DP, DCS, DTC are all the same. USUALLY a DP/DTC/DCS tone is "N" (Normal) unless specified as "I" (Inverted) In your example D205N = 34 on your chart. If your radio only allows you to enter the 2 or 3 digit numbers (34) then that is what you enter on the radio. MOST radios like the KG-Q10G allow you to choose the actual CTC/DCS tone (ie; 141.3 or D023N) - you dont "enter" it, you choose it from the list in the DCS TX or RX menu setting.
  23. Did you ever get an answer? I would like to do the same thing with my listing.
  24. Parallels is great and I use it on my M1 Mac to program all my radios.. If your Mac is too old for Parallels then it will probably run Boot Camp, which lets you run Windows directly/natively on your Mac so you should check that out to see if it will work on your MacBook.
  25. This is almost certainly a Windows/comport/driver issue - do you have any other radios that work using CHIRP?
