Well that didnt take long.. Sadly, as we all know, the FCC wont do a thing so hopefully they get bored.
-
This is apparently a new feature on a few models. I would recommend contacting the seller and tell them to send you one that works as advertised, or give back your money. If you purchased on Amazon, this is very easy to do.

Can Transmit in Frequency Mode but not Pre-set repeater channels
OffRoaderX replied to WRWE607's topic in General Discussion
No, just because you can transmit does not mean you can/are/will hit the repeater. You can confirm if you are hitting the repeater by listening for the "kerchunk" or 'kickback' when you unkey the radio or by someone answering you on the repeater. Try getting your two radios more than 50 feet apart then try again. If the radios are too close you may not hear yourself through the repeater on the other radio. -
The FCC database is public and can be accessed/searched here: https://www.fcc.gov/enforcement/orders Since 2012, there have been 0 enforcements for simple rule-breaking such as JUST transmitting without a GMRS license, only about 6 enforcements for more serious rule-breaking on CB, GMRS & ham.

Because Imagine what would happen if someone used non-standard phonetics on GMRS. Think of the children!

Need advice Installing and trimming TRAM 1486
OffRoaderX replied to WRYD530's question in Technical Discussion
I just read the words on the instruction sheet and did what they said.. SWR was 1.01:1 on the first try. I mounted mine on a 10foot mast side-mounted to the chimney. -
Don't be ridiculous.. It's a LOT overpriced.

Can Transmit in Frequency Mode but not Pre-set repeater channels
OffRoaderX replied to WRWE607's topic in General Discussion
When you say you "get nothing", are you saying it does not transmit, or you dont think you are hitting the repeater? What frequency are you entering when in Frequency mode - and are you saying you can hit the repeater in frequency mode, or you are just able to transmit? -
These are the general steps: Select the correct repeater channel Enter the TX tone, and optionally, the RX tone Thats it. You dont need to enter any frequencies anywhere or do anything with the offset because if you did the first step correctly, the frequencies and offset are built-in. Not sure what you've done, but it sounds like you didnt do something right. Either that or you have a defective radio, and i doubt you have a defective radio.

This ^ .. you CANT program a repeater in VFO mode on most (all?) GMRS radios. You have to use a Repeater channel/"DIY" channel.

Has anyone tried 30-50 watt amplifier?
OffRoaderX replied to Tiercel's question in Technical Discussion
I have one, and have a few friends that have/use one and they work well - but just putting a big antenna on your roof will probably get you more farz... But, combining this WITH a big antenna on your roof to make up for cable-loss is a very good combo. Beware that "some people" will probably leave comments about this unit being 'dangerous' because of spurious RF emissions, but bear in mind that normal people dont care about that. EDIT: I have/my friends have the U-25 version as @WRYZ926 correctly pointed out. -
The BEST time to have it on is when you are using a repeater! But, i am not aware of any Part 95 GMRS radio that allows you to select the Roger Beep by channel.
-
You COULD, but it would not function optimally because it's not made for/tuned for the 462-467Mhz range of GMRS. If you bought this specifically to use with your GMRS radio then yah, you bought the wrong kind.
-
Thanks .. When I posted a comment in this forum saying that this has been posted online, "Some people" decreed that what I said was: "a deliberate and blatant lie. No one ever said anything close to that." I thought it was weird how "some people" could claim to know that "NO ONE EVER SAID ANYTHING CLOSE TO THAT". I guess this just demonstrates how stupid and arrogant "some people" actually are - it seems that the harder they try to show everyone how smart they think they are, they just make themselves look more ridiculous.
-
I am curious if anyone has ever seen it posted online or been told: "if you transmit without an antenna, your radio will be damaged" ... With regard to any kind of radio (CB, GMRS, ham, etc). And if you were told this/saw this information posted online, were there any qualifiers included? Ie; did they say "...but only IF you're using an older radio" or "it might take a while, it wont happen immediately" ?

You can enter Dealer Mode in the standard software by adding a couple of letters to your program shortcut when you run it - I dont remember what it is but you can search for it here - it's something like "/D" after the .EXE .. Once in dealer mode you can enable CW-ID and a bunch of other stuff. Warning: Dont change something if you dont know what it is.. But no sexy voice option.
-
Why not just use the automatic CW-ID that is built-in on the VXR-7000?
-
Ok, THIS I support!

This is why i always recommend purchasing from Amazon whenever possible and NEVER directly from the manufacture website especially if it is in Chyna.. That way if you get a radio that does not work as advertised, instead of jumping through hoops and running in circles, you just send it back for a full refund - something that Amazon makes very easy to do.
