I have seen several comments on youtube videos with people complaining about this, so it seems like a defect. I would suggest contacting the manufacturer for support or a replacement that works.

As Steve & @marcspaz mentioned, GMRS is a "Bring Your Own Contacts" type of service. Very utilitarian. If someone is looking for strangers to chat with, I always recommend using the Grindr app.

your example, Ch107, was a 3-digit number.

Select Menu #9 for receiving DPL tone or Menu #11 for transmitting DPL tone, select tone from list, confirm, enjoy. Pro Tip: DCS, DTC, & DPL all refer to the same thing.

When in channel-mode, if you want to go to channel 107, just hit 1-0-7.. if you want to go to channel 16, hit 0-1-6 ..

Make sure you are at least 50 feet apart when testing. Try that and report back.

Probably because one of them (the one that is not receiving) has tones/codes/privacy settings/subchannels set... Remove all tones/codes and try again, then report back.

I put together a repeater with two KG1000G radios, and desense was a real issue, even after separating the radios by about 10 feet and adding makeshift shielding.

Pretty much what @marcspaz said: They are not consumer radios, they are difficult to install, they are large/bulky, usually very expensive and are VERY tricky to program IF you can even get the software. They are also not "FCC legal" for GMRS, but since the FCC doesn't care, neither do I.

I am a Jeep guy and many people would say I am also a radio guy. When discussing antennas and ground-plane, "Some People" get very confused between the phrases "will not work" and "may not work 100% efficiently". I mount my antenna on the rear tailgate, which the experts have proclaimed "will not work" because of the poor groundplane. And it is true, the groundplane IS poor, but the SWR is (barely) below 3:1 and the radio works fine - On simplex i can get over 30 miles, and I have hit a repeater at over 90 miles. Put either antenna anywhere on your Jeep (within reason), and based on my experience with leading (literally) almost 1,000 Jeeps with radios on off-road runs over the last several years, it will work fine for off-road and around town. All that said, my buddy with a 3db ghost antenna mounted on his roof-rack can receive signals slightly better than I can with my 6db antenna..although I can transmit slightly more farz.

Geezus..Learn to read the room dude.. In my Jeep I started with a BTech GMRS 50X2, after a year or so i upgraded to the KG-1000G which I used for a few years and then replaced that with a Motorola XTL5000 (NOT recommended for most people).. IMO, the KG-1000G is the best choice for most people in this forum. The entire time I have been using a Midland MXTA26 antenna. A simple setup like this (any of the 3 radios I've had) will work more than well enough for most people, no need to learn about db gains or noise reduction %%.. Those terms, when over-used, are most often spouted by "some people" that feel an uncontrollable urge to try and show everyone how smart they think they are.

What do you mean "open carrier" ... Do you mean you are getting the "kerchunk"/click/static sound back? If so, then you are hitting the repeater and it is entirely possible (probable, on many repeaters) that nobody is listening to answer you. If you mean something else by 'open carrier', please elaborate. Remember: GMRS is primarily intended for you and your friend/group to stay in communication with each other while hiking/off-roading, etc. It is not primarily intended to find/talk to strangers.

The + indicates an offset, meaning you are on a repeater channel and is not related to the bandwidth.. Check again on page 17 of your manual.

I use an MXTA26 mounted on the rear tailgate of my Jeep, which gives me a very poor groundplane, and all the of the experts tell me it wont work.. I've hit over 30miles with it on simplex and can hit a repeater 92 miles away, so it works good enough for me.

This is a very bad choice for many people because the programming software/CPS has a very steep learning curve, is often difficult if not impossible to find, often (depending on the radio/software) does not run well on newer computers, things like batteries, cables, etc, are also often difficult to find or expensive, and it will almost certainly cost a lot more. And most important: Those commercial radios are not Part 95 approved so it is illegal to use them and they will go to jail!!!!!1 I know this because I've seen this posted on this forum 100 times or more. Sometimes "cheap junk Chinese radios" are plenty good enough for normal people, despite the poor QC, but "some people" just cannot seem to grasp this simple fact and will live the rest of their lives proselytizing against inexpensive radios completely oblivious to other people's needs/desires.

The official and unambiguous answer is: The FCC, based on their public record of enforcements clearly does not care, so why would I (or anyone with a life) care?

I read on RepeaterBook that a guy was using GMRS Channel 16 north of Line A and he was fined $250k. But seriously, as pointed out, if you are north of "Line A", then i amend my response to "there may be restrictions on what pairs you can use".

No, that is not accurate, and all pairs are usable. To avoid interfering with any other repeaters, a good idea is to listen to all the repeater channels for a few days to see if there is any activity and check on the MyGMRS repeater map to see if there are any others listed in the area - then just pick a pair.

Generally you download from the radio first, SAVE THE FILE, then make your changes, THEN upload.. The download confirms that you have the correct radio and comm port settings selected. Are you able to download?

Like @Sshannon said, your farz probably wont change in any way that you will ever see or notice, but just knowing that you have that additional power feels good.
